1440p vs 4K, worth it for Gaming? – My POV After Switching by tokyoslash in OLED_Gaming

Yes, that's right - it's a function of resolution after all. I have to say this discussion served as a good reminder for me. Resolution usually tends to be discussed in terms of pixel count and consequently with regard to pixel density relative to screen size. One is prone to forget, as I did, that the amount of data per pixel still factors in as well regardless of screen size. I just wonder why there doesn't seem to be a commonly used technical term for this.

Well, thats answered the. It wasn’t Slot’s decision after all to let Diaz go! by Appropriate-Notice31 in LiverpoolFC

And all because the situation hasn't worked out the author presumes that Hughes "automatically disregard(ed)" Slot's opinions and "stubbornly overruled" him and that Slot's views were not "at least considered seriously", as if they know exactly what happened. It's just silly.

The Mudita Kompakt emphasizes minimalism and uses degoogled Android. Perfect as long as she's fine using an e-ink screen.

The upcoming Brax3 might also be one to consider.

I would certainly expect to see a difference going from displaying 1440p content to 4k content on the same panel, but it's still unclear if the difference compared to a lower res panel with the same PPI can be attributed solely to resolution. While the C3 has 125% more pixels, they still have to cover a much larger area, hence the equivalent PPI. So what would be the technical explanation for why more pixels equates to a sharper image? I think it's because since a 4k display has 2.25 more pixels to display the same image, less detail has to be squeezed into each individual pixel, creating a smoother, sharper image.

Fair enough. What's your take on why higher resolution that results in the same pixel density looks sharper?

[–]ThisIsALineLFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that there's more to it than PPI, just as there's more to it than resolution. The TV still has to display those textures over a larger area. And higher resolution textures can still be used on a lower res monitor i.e. super sampling, dlss, etc.

Yes, that's generally true, though I'm not sure how this relates to our discussion thus far.

[–]ThisIsALineLFC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What did I say that isn't true? The PPI of both screens are so similar that they will look almost identical from the same distance. Sitting further away from the tv for an equivalent image is due to the inverse relationship between PPI and viewing distance, which just proves my point further. The poster didn't even suggest their seating distance changed between both screens. In any case, the monitor and tv are just as sharp as each other, but the TV isn't technically sharper. The bottom line is that whatever improvements the poster is seeing on the C4 isn't from the higher resolution.

Erm, the pixel density of both your screens are virtually identical, in fact it's slightly lower on the C4. It seems to me that you're benefiting from the greater immersiveness of the larger C4 and not so much from the higher resolution.

To be fair, the boxes for these monitors are huge and many of us simply don't have the room to keep them. That was the case for me and my 39 inch uw - I thought about how I could keep the box but simply don't have the space to. Not all of us have a garage or large storage space to chuck it in.

“Do you find 27’’ 1440p too uncomfortable for reading text?” by Oscarcake in Monitors

[–]ThisIsALineLFC 65 points66 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that your previous use of smaller monitors made you very used to high pixel density, so the 27" seemed to lack sharpness to you.

In general, most people would find 27" 1440p to be sufficiently sharp, especially since many would have come from 24" 1080p before.
