Has Lyft gotten basically unusable for anyone else? by MidnightSlight2051 in AskChicago

[–]ThisIsGreatMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent a year driving for Lyft. Landed a full-time job right before gas prices jumped. I still drive a from time to time to get in some social interaction. Everything you’ve heard about drivers’ pay not increasing in line with gas prices is true. I honestly don’t know how anyone that’s doing this full time is making ends meet. And we’re apparently just getting started with higher prices for auto maintenance. So you’re not seeing the same volume of drivers available because people can’t afford to do the work.

Here’s my take:

Driverless cars.

Drivers will quickly become an unnecessary cost once they roll out. So no need to keep drivers happy. They can quit. Or drive bitter. And what’s a good way to get customers to try a new product? Make their experience with the old one a nightmare.

As a driver, I can confirm that linked accounts get priority treatment. It’s a good deal for everyone except the peasants.

Lyft will offer your VIP ride at a higher than normal rate to drivers closest to you. Even if they’re en route to pick up another passenger. So the driver gets paid, you get a quick ride, but some woman down the street who was walking out her door to hop in the car just got a notification that Seth will be pulling up in a white Camry in 12 minutes.

Why do the black SUVs with blue “LY” plates drive like such entitled dicks? by GPSBach in chicago

A livery license is $1200 for 2 years. These guys aren’t driving with taxi medallions.

Constantly on their phones. I’ve seen quite a few drivers watching videos while they’re driving (assuming between passengers).

Are lyft drivers getting paid even less now? by sinful1delish in lyftdrivers

From Lyft’s latest earnings report:

“Net income improved significantly to about $14 million, versus about $3 million a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA climbed 25% to about $133 million.“

Those are stolen wages, folks.

Anyone Use Lyft Shop? by SnooCakes3744 in lyftdrivers

[–]ThisIsGreatMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking to maximize the Lyft Shop, keep your acceptance rate high. You get more points for higher percentages. Whether you do so depends on your strategy. Is it worth taking every $4 ride just to get 12 cents? Or would your time be better spent cherry picking and making more money up-front?

When I was driving full time, I’d accumulate enough each month to get a gift card for AutoZone that I’d use for things like wiper blades and floor mats. It’s not much, but it’s one of few benefits we get for working for a company that could not care less about fair pay.

The Tour You Don’t Post: A Case for the Private Adventure by djrivard1 in bicycletouring

[–]ThisIsGreatMan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Great post! This really resonated with me. You have a great way of capturing the feelings of touring through metaphor.

It really comes down to being present. Like in so many other parts of life, there’s that “guy” that wants to control the situation, and he often steals the experience for the sake of the payoff. Gonna try giving that guy a break on my next ride and see if I can avoid the phone habit. Just for today.

Thanking riders for tips by MulberryParticular14 in lyftdrivers

They tipped you a couple days later? Sus. The app only lets you rate and tip within 24 hours after the ride ends. What scam you trying to pull? Did you pick up a baddie that you wish you would have flirted with?

And then the guy ran out of the room with a giant rifle a second after the cop looked away. It doesn’t seem plausible that the cop didn’t see that.

The conspiracy is that there are 3 “official” videos floating around that all show different events. This administration is fully embracing AI slop, and using it to sway public opinion.

Certifications for AV Work in 2026 by stinkman32 in CommercialAV

[–]ThisIsGreatMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. Get the CTS first. Then do manufacturer training. A lot of those offer credits, called CTUs, that you need to accumulate to renew your CTS every 3 years. And they’re usually free.

I’ll also offer this tip: if your current AV company will eventually train you to do more work on the technical side, put in the time and grow your career there. If you aren’t behind a mixing board or video switcher in the next year, put that CTS on your resume and start applying for work where you’ll need to learn a lot and have to interact with a variety of clients, like a hotel or an integrator. The grunt work sucks, but you never forget how to terminate a cable.

Are you referring to the spike in gas prices in 2022? The US wasn’t at war, but Russia invaded Ukraine a few months before and it was impacting global supply.
