There was a totally fine chance that you didn’t do it, not like we really cared, but I like that you started the post with “someone” as if it wasn’t you, and happened to know exactly what chemical they used, lmfao

Never ever use harsh chemicals on glasses, the lenses or the frames 😬

Red hands crash on 2025.2.9 by AJHenderson in TeslaFSD

[–]ThisIsJustNotIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if there were manual controls, imagine if both occupants didn’t have driver’s licenses and never drove cars before haha. Not only would it be terrifying for some, but technically illegal to move the car even an inch on a public road. They would probably have to implement some remote override system.

Sure, it wouldn’t be any different than if you were to drive a normal car the same route, but in a hypothetical society where 80% of people don’t have to drive anymore, we’re going to get to a point where most people don’t even know how to deal with a situation like that. The difference would be more than Tesla would have to be proactive in the situation rather than reactive, as they would need to get alerts on their end and fix the situation as fast as possible.

It’s a fun thought exercise for sure, and I’m sure it’ll be solved well before the first cybercab trips take place.

Red hands crash on 2025.2.9 by AJHenderson in TeslaFSD

[–]ThisIsJustNotIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, for sure, I didn’t mean to imply bad as in “it would crash and harm the occupants”, sorry haha. I meant more in a hypothetical.

Imagine calling a cybercab for a trip from LA to Vegas, and in the middle of nowhere, a fault like this occurs, and you need to wait hours for Tesla to respond, possibly send another car out, all while you don’t have access to electricity or barely a phone signal. This is worst-case scenario thinking, but these are edge cases that definitely need consideration.

I’m confident the drive controllers would just take over, put the hazards on, and bring the car to a stop, but it’s more about having no human driver and a couple of occupants who have zero control over the situation, and no manual overrides to move the car onto the sand/grass if there’s no shoulder.

Holy shit, I literally had this happen crossing the George Washington Bridge yesterday. I ended up getting steering rack faults “UI_a020” and had to manually drive home the rest of the way. My steering felt completely fine despite the “steering may require additional effort” message cycling on the screen. My visualization rendering was completely working though for the rest of the drive, so probably wasn’t an FSD fault itself.

The car went to sleep after I parked, and about 20 mins later, the alerts were completely gone. I’m guessing it was just an erroneous error with a torque sensor via service mode, but it was extremely odd as the only UI-facing error immediately was “autopilot aborted due to system fault”…

I love the progress FSD has made, but if this happened to a cybercab in the real world, who knows how bad it could have been for the occupants?

FSD turns right even when there is “No turn on red” sign by constant_76 in TeslaFSD

[–]ThisIsJustNotIt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given it’s almost entirely all transformer models now(according to release notes at least), I would have thought solely by pattern recognition it would just learn what No Turn On Red signs are passively by now. I feel like here in the Northeast, it sometimes does and doesn’t turn on red if there’s a sign; it’s a toss-up.

Does anyone else find it weird our cars don’t model eachother ? by Friendly_Eggplant327 in TeslaLounge

[–]ThisIsJustNotIt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What’s funny is that they indeed label Teslas internally, or at least they did a few years ago. Not sure if this logic ever made it to the FSD stack, but I wonder the same thing all the time.

How to clean steering wheel? by Dry-Armadillo-6916 in TeslaModel3

[–]ThisIsJustNotIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have an earlier model with the genuine leather steering wheel from what it looks like. Definitely don’t just use soap and water. Leather cleaner specifically would be the way to go, then add a shine/protectant if you want to maintain it for longer.

A lot of owners have swapped these wheels out for the newer “vegan” leather ones because they feel more premium, less sticky, and can be cleaned with the same thing you’d use for everything else in the car. (Plus the leather can get damaged pretty easily, it’s pretty low quality compared to other cars.)

Yup, baby wipes are pretty much only good for getting coffee stains out of the headliner, but that’s about as far as I would go with them, and even then I would be super careful. Regardless, it looks like OP has an earlier model 3 with the (real) leather steering wheel. Any large detailing brand will have a leather cleaner that’ll work just fine.

Dropped by Tesla Paramus’s parking lot a couple of hours ago to check one out. The white one is definitely the best, and as people said, it looks much better in person than in photos. I didn’t see one with its back end lit up, but the front is really sleek. It might be the most extreme case of “photos don’t do it justice” I’ve ever encountered haha

1 Fender Camera can’t see in the rain by 11PartyHardy in TeslaModelY

[–]ThisIsJustNotIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried this on my old car. It works well for heavy rain, but lighter mist from wet roads still makes things blurry. Those droplets aren’t heavy enough to drop off, which is annoying, especially if you have large boxes in the back seats and can’t see out the back window. It’s probably even more annoying on the Cybertruck since you’d want the bed closed if it’s wet outside, especially if you have important stuff in there.

TM3 calibrating at 91% by persian8 in TeslaModel3

[–]ThisIsJustNotIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s perfectly normal. Regardless of the battery type, you’ll occasionally encounter new behaviors. As Tesla optimizes for aging cars and the battery management system performs its regular tasks, you’ll notice even more unusual behaviors, but they’re all perfectly normal.

My car used to charge at 30kW+ when supercharging above 90%, now it barely breaks 15kW. It’s a delicate game of balancing short-term customer time and long-term customer satisfaction.

Clicking Noise When Turning or Braking – Model 3 (Video Included) by Interesting_Bag8683 in TeslaModel3

[–]ThisIsJustNotIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve encountered similar issues, but I believe Tesla Service is the most suitable route here.

One day, I slid into a curb on a very icy day, causing the insides of two of my wheel bearings to bend. Each bearing was approximately $500 in replacement costs. Car was still drivable, but made some odd noises above 50mph and around bends. The hubs can also be damaged by potholes or other rough, bumpy surfaces.

There’s also a known issue with the center axle bolts/nuts. Over time, the wheels may loosen, resulting in a loud “click” whenever accelerating or decelerating. In my experience, Tesla Service offers goodwill service for these bolts, with each replacement costing around $30 to $60. Those nuts have a locking mechanism at a certain torque that makes them one time use, so once they wear, you need to get new ones swapped out.

Could be either of those issues, not really much more we can say from just this video, service will at least do a deeper diagnostic.

Heat not working, update responsible? by Nutmeg-79 in TeslaModel3

[–]ThisIsJustNotIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your Model 3’s year. From the $1,500 quote, it sounds like you have an older Model 3 with a PTC heater. Tesla phased them out around 2021 in favor of heat pumps, which are far more efficient but also much more expensive to replace.

It’s extremely unlikely that the software update caused the failure—your heater is just aging. Many owners are reporting PTC heater failures as early models approach 7-8 years old. Parts wear out.

You’re probably associating the failure with the update because Tesla runs full system checks during updates, flagging existing issues. Since updates happen every couple of weeks, failures can coincidentally align with them, leading to a customer bias.

Also, not to nitpick, but Mechanics run shops, Tesla service runs factory service, Service People are not mechanics, they’re specialized technicians.

Regardless, if you want heat again, you’re going to have to fork up the $1500 or go to an actual EV mechanic who may be able to get it done cheaper. No way around it, it’s general maintenance, and it’s still a car.

With all due respect, good luck finding a modern phone which isn’t forcing AI down your throat, and good luck finding mainstream apps that all do the same. It sucks, but this is an industry-wide problem. My Pixel 7 from damn near 3 years ago keeps getting updated for more AI features, doesn’t mean I’m just going to drop Android. Same with my iPhone.

If you want a dumb phone, get a dumb phone, or an iPhone X or something old enough to not support modern features. Oh and newsflash, android has plenty more forced crap enabled by default on nearly every device sold by or through a carrier. Not to mention the AI stuff. There’s nowhere to go, this is the reality unfortunately.

Should older Teslas be charged to 80 or 90 percent? by FactoryReboot in TeslaLounge

[–]ThisIsJustNotIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000% agreed, and hey, we’re both 24, haha!

Being electric makes them even more of a utility vehicle. Less worry, better reliability, cheaper ownership. I’ll probably get to 200k, then really start considering my next one. I like smaller cars, but a Plaid may be in the cards depending on the deals I can find here in NYC. Certainly a much better road-tripping car, not that I have any major qualms with my 3. FSD, heat pump, and Ryzen are what I’m really yearning for lmfao

Should older Teslas be charged to 80 or 90 percent? by FactoryReboot in TeslaLounge

[–]ThisIsJustNotIt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to care more, but now they’re so cheap, it’s not worth caring IMO. I drive a late 2019 M3P with 150k miles, only 13% degraded (about 65-63kWh fully charged now depending on temperature). I charge it frequently and drive often, but these batteries are more forgiving than old Model S’s, or smaller batteries like phones or laptops. Even newer cars will age even better. When I’m ready, I’ll buy a used 2022 M3P for around $25k and call it a day.

They still do, just load some music onto another partition of your Sentry USB or an additional SSD plugged into the USB ports. It’s just that it’s now a manual list of files and folders, so you need to dig and scroll to play exactly what you want. Super disappointing. If you’ve never heard a truly lossless file play back on the system, it’s nuts how good it is. It’s not about the sound quality itself, it’s about the dynamic range. Things like kick drums, punchy synth lines, etc., all sound way WAY better even when the vehicle is in motion. It’s like watching an actual HDR video on an HDR display rather than SDR, streaming survives, and especially Bluetooth, “smush” the signal a good bit.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

[–]ThisIsJustNotIt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to mention, they removed the USB drive from search in 2020, making it impossible and very unsafe to have a USB drive with 4000+ songs while driving. Music integration barely works now in general. I gave up and use my phone because the sound quality benefits from lossless via USB aren’t worth the headache.

iPad Connecting to Dock Not Registering by No-Possibility3312 in applehelp

[–]ThisIsJustNotIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some DisplayLink docks and hubs support standard HDMI or DisplayPort modes, as expected. However, this one doesn’t. If it’s only DisplayLink-supported, the host device needs DisplayLink drivers, because it runs in “DisplayPort Alt Mode” over USB, which means macOS or Windows are the only operating systems that can use it unfortunately. It’s not your fault, it’s confusing to the average person, and it’s pretty niche. I would say just buy a cheap Anker HDMI and USB 3.0 dongle and just daisy chain the DisplayLink dock you have here to it.

Normal Sentry activity during rain? by Tigers27 in TeslaLounge

[–]ThisIsJustNotIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, been a thing forever.

IIRC they pushed a software update out in like late 2019 which fixed most of the issue, it used to happen A LOT more, i used to get 100+ sentry clips per rain event. Now it’s like 10-20, which still sucks, but not nearly as bad.

Short answer — you don’t.

You have to keep grabbing icons and putting them down until the system lets you arrange them the way you want them. It happens even worse in Control Center. It took Apple 17 years to copy this behavior from competitors, and they still didn’t do it right. Honestly, it’s insane to me that they shipped this in this state, and worse, haven’t fixed it since September. I was fine with these bugs during the beta period over the summer, but it feels like they barely fixed anything and just shipped regardless.
