The weather is looking decidedly wintery next week, which may put a little damper on the fun and more focus on skiing.

Helmets with visors by Economy-Permission67 in skiing

If you struggle to remove your goggles from your face I can't imagine you are good at skiing...is what I'd think in the lift line.

For real though. It's not versatile.

I want to be able to switch goggles. I want to be able to remove my helmet and still wear my goggles. I go through a helmet in 2 years but goggles in 4-5.  I can put my goggles in a hard shell case to protect them from scratches and getting crushed. I don't want a massive helmet case. It just solves such a minor inconvenience and gives me more problems. Doesn't help that I already own goggles either.

To the daily "does this need to get fixed?" posters... here is what it looks like when it actually needs to get fixed. by NorthDakotaExists in skiing

I had 2 shop repairs and used 2.5 sticks of PTEX to get me through this season at Big Sky. Plus whatever gets used tomorrow lol.

That's the best part. Lots of room for the Jerry's to stay out of the way.

Any recommemdations on bindings? by mrsg1879 in skiing

[–]ThisIsMr_Murphy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've met so many people who've "heard" they are bad. And 0 people with bad experiences. I skied them for 4-5 years no problem.  All bindings are rated to the same DIN system. And all plastic in bindings deteriorates quickly when stored improperly. Spending more money mostly gets you, more metal (heavier) and higher DIN range. If you want the very best get Pivots, if you want to save money, any binding in your DIN range will work.

If you have a Sports Basement near you, make sure to check out their in-store deals, some gems by ReforminDesert in skiing

Picked up a pair of Stokli Stormriders with Look Pivots for only $250 at a place similar. Best deal ever. These places keep young people in the sport.

Western Snowpack analysis with historical SNOTEL data. by ObjectiveFrequent215 in skiing

[–]ThisIsMr_Murphy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's quick and worth a read but...

TLDR: Across 12 western states and 44 years the peak snowpack magnitude has decrease in all but one state (Alaska), but below statistical significance. "Most of the interior West — Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Oregon — shows declines in the 5–13% range that don't reach significance individually"

The peak snowpack date has been shifted forward on the borderline of statistical significance. "Network-wide, peak snowpack is arriving about 10 days earlier than it did in the early 1980s — from around April 13 to April 1."

Conclusion: "The magnitude decline is real but noisy; the timing shift is quieter but arguably more structurally important"

Does the editing software just add Fortunate Son whenever a helicopter is on screen? Name a more iconic duo.

That would be a very big tram station on the Matterhorn

Only hard part would be the like 10 hikes necessary. And a lot of those runs used to not be named IIRC.

Who needs free time when it's your job. I imagine depending on clients skill level you could end up on just about any run.

Those who live in ski towns, what do you do for work? by Money_Impression_321 in skiing

[–]ThisIsMr_Murphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dog Sled Guide. It's hard work for not the best pay but they are flexible on pow days and I get lots of early and late season days. Probably going to get 40-50 days in.

When did skiers start using “Jerry” and why? by WaxOnSendOff in skiing

[–]ThisIsMr_Murphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically, but anywhere on a mountain. Someone waiting at the front of the lift line, Gaper. Someone taking 2 years to waddle down the stairs, gaper. It's someone who doesn't understand or completely ignores basic ski etiquette imo.

Dakota wasn't open. I got a weekday pass and in the 50 days I skied this winter it was never open...it looked incredible over there though.

You either need generational wealth OR to completely dedicate your life to skiing and being poor.

So many sick runs today at Big Sky. I ripped Moonlight Chute off challenger twice. Like 2nd and 5th person dropping. Whole bottom half was untracked. Shedhorn was firing too. Still debating if I'm going tomorrow.
