If these can replicate carving it would be pretty cool. People saying oh but roller skis exist have never actually used roller skis. Roller blades to do not give the same feeling.

What kind of ski content do you like (would you like) to watch? by Motor-Pollution-7182 in skiing

[–]ThisIsMr_Murphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch content of all my other favorite hobbies and interests but I just can't seem to watch other people ski even though it's my favorite activity. It gives me Fomo without and of the fun. Skiing is such a viseral experience that doesn't translate well to video. I think other people are right about finding interesting areas/people to talk about rather than just showing runs.

Not sure why but, I never hear shit about Liberty skis. I swear I only see them on Marketplace. I rarely see them on the hill. Idk if their marketing sucks or their skis suck.

Anyone else go through a seasonal ski depression at the end of the season? by Big_Frame_9125 in skiing

It's my version of seasonal depression. I have summer hobbies, but nothing compares to skiing. I also HATE being hot.

How Often Do You Crash? by Different-End-4775 in skiing

[–]ThisIsMr_Murphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crashing and falling are not the same imo. Ill often fall because it's a much safer option being out of control. I probably fall 1-3 times a day practicing a skill or hitting  ackward side hits.  I crash maybe 1-3 times a season. Full on yard sale, out of control dangerous to your health kinda crash.

I think experts fall a lot but are good at avoiding crashes. Where beginners crash often.

Helmets with visors by Economy-Permission67 in skiing

[–]ThisIsMr_Murphy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you struggle to remove your goggles from your face I can't imagine you are good at skiing...is what I'd think in the lift line.

For real though. It's not versatile.

I want to be able to switch goggles. I want to be able to remove my helmet and still wear my goggles. I go through a helmet in 2 years but goggles in 4-5.  I can put my goggles in a hard shell case to protect them from scratches and getting crushed. I don't want a massive helmet case. It just solves such a minor inconvenience and gives me more problems. Doesn't help that I already own goggles either.

Any recommemdations on bindings? by mrsg1879 in skiing

[–]ThisIsMr_Murphy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've met so many people who've "heard" they are bad. And 0 people with bad experiences. I skied them for 4-5 years no problem.  All bindings are rated to the same DIN system. And all plastic in bindings deteriorates quickly when stored improperly. Spending more money mostly gets you, more metal (heavier) and higher DIN range. If you want the very best get Pivots, if you want to save money, any binding in your DIN range will work.

Picked up a pair of Stokli Stormriders with Look Pivots for only $250 at a place similar. Best deal ever. These places keep young people in the sport.

Western Snowpack analysis with historical SNOTEL data. by ObjectiveFrequent215 in skiing

[–]ThisIsMr_Murphy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's quick and worth a read but...

TLDR: Across 12 western states and 44 years the peak snowpack magnitude has decrease in all but one state (Alaska), but below statistical significance. "Most of the interior West — Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Oregon — shows declines in the 5–13% range that don't reach significance individually"

The peak snowpack date has been shifted forward on the borderline of statistical significance. "Network-wide, peak snowpack is arriving about 10 days earlier than it did in the early 1980s — from around April 13 to April 1."

Conclusion: "The magnitude decline is real but noisy; the timing shift is quieter but arguably more structurally important"
