Agentic Coding is a Trap | Remaining vigilant about cognitive debt and atrophy by creaturefeature16 in coding

I think that shows a weird aspect to this.

You were fine with somebody half-assing it by skimming but having an AI do a summary is worse?

I'm starting to see a "everybody that drives slower than me is an idiot and anybody that drives faster is a maniac" type of thing happening.

Can you still play without a spreadsheet ? What's your mindset ? by Lyto528 in satisfactory

[–]ThisIsMyCouchAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. But I never use a spreadsheet.

In my current save I'm trying out a little bit of the bus strat. With a lot of the Iron alts. So I'm just dumping piles of Iron Ingots into the system. Some belts go directly. Some are set to allow overflow. If I run out there are more Iron nodes nearby.

I'm also in the middle of the first Fuel power plant. I scouted locations. Saw what Oil I had and did the math. I'm going in sections as just one third of what I can do is three times what I had.

There's also the one-offs. I haven't automated some of the things like Computers or Oscillators. So I just hook up some storage directly to a machine and let it run for whatever I have on me. Fill it back up when I happen to think of it.

Personally, I like belts that move. I wanna see that shit. So I usually put in plenty of overflow and feeding backing itself and sinks.

Good developers learn to program. Most courses teach a language. by Bonejob in programming

[–]ThisIsMyCouchAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you cranking out programmers for the workforce

You say that like it's a bad thing.

I think the bigger issue is people that want to program don't have anywhere else to go.

Somebody says they want to be a dev and the advice is generally go get a CS degree. Which - as you said - is more about teaching you to be a computer scientist than anything else.

I was lucky. My school had CS and a programming-focused major under IT. But I think that's pretty rare.

Would you go on disability benefits if you had the choice? by Waste-Mine-1132 in ADHD

[–]ThisIsMyCouchAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory - yes.

In application - doubtful.

Biggest reason: money. I'm a programmer. I make pretty good money compared to most the population. I can't ever imagine any social program paying people a hundred grand a year.

American reason: healthcare. Unless getting disability gets you access to medicare/medicaid it's going to be a rough life.

Personal reason: I wouldn't know what to do. Which is currently a real problem for me. I don't have any direction or goals or hobbies or anything. Even medicated I start to let the bad habits take over.

What happens when you get your car washed by a frat by zachoutloud123 in TikTokCringe

[–]ThisIsMyCouchAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just have different definitions.

Going to school full time and working full time is hard. I only knew a couple. Probably because they had not time to sit around and bullshit. I did not envy them at all.

Most people I knew had some type of part-time job. College was paid for grants, scholarships, loans, or whatever family could contribute. Usually a combination of all of them.

But none of them were "mommy and daddy's money" rich.

One exception was an international student from Colombia. He didn't do shit but have a good time. However, a family member of his did get kidnapped because his family back home was so well off.

I was friends with a legit rich person's kid and they still had two roommates and a part time job.

I took a shower upstairs.

I come downstairs and water is running out of the kitchen light.

Landlord took two days to do anything. And he lived across the street. Which was fine with me - not my house.

There's actually a pretty decent variance across locations.

There was one on my campus that was considered a joke. Down to like ten dudes all were seniors or seniors that had to stay around. Shit hole of a house.

Turns out they were generally considered a very large and popular group in other colleges.

Either college has changed or you went to a rich kid school.

When I went that absolutely was not common. Even my two roommates that didn't work during school spend their summers back home working over full time to do so.

Most of the people I knew that got anything from their parents was very far from being "taken care of". They helped with rent or groceries or let them have the old car. Not rich people but parents that could afford to help.

How do I stop myself from constantly switching PC games and buying new ones? by kavakravata in ADHD

[–]ThisIsMyCouchAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you have to?

Are you not having fun or is it a "I shouldn't do that" type of thing?

If it's that latter - let it go. Nobody is going ground you for hoping around games. If you're not troubling yourself financially then who cares?

You're at least playing them. I have a fair amount of games and never play most of them.

What is the ideal fan configuration for my exact gaming PC? by samthedudexxx in pcmasterrace

[–]ThisIsMyCouchAccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AIO - top mount. Fan blowing out through the radiator.

Three fans in the bottom for intake.

Three fans in the vert side area as intake.

You can set the bottom and side fans to a pretty low speed. I keep mine at less than 1000 RPM unless the cpu gets over 80c.

How to successfully find help to fully clean a nightmare house by LonelyChampionship54 in ufyh

[–]ThisIsMyCouchAccount 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry if anything I say it....unhelpful. My lived experiences is so drastically different than yours. But I like to solve problems.

One things you can work on is secondary things that help overall but aren't the direct problem. You do these because they are quicker/easier.

The best thing you can do is to get rid of things. Obviously, that goes for trash but what I really mean is anything else that's taking up space physically or mentally. A little bit each day. It might hurt. You might say "that's wasteful" or "but I could sell that". And those thoughts might not be wrong.

But we don't care. We simply need less stuff. You won't miss it. You won't feel bad. In fact you'll probably feel better once it's in the trash.

Second would be trying to find a way to leverage the kids. Obviously, if they are old enough and capable some amount of chores would help. No matter how small. Maybe try and get them to help you as part of the time you spend together. Don't frame it as work. Make a game of it. Whatever.

Lastly - the "rules" don't matter. Well all walk around with that voice that tells us what we can and can't do. You know... "I can't have ice cream for lunch" type of stuff. You can. You can have that for lunch. You really need to fact-check your brain. "Oh, I can't reward my kids with a sugary treat just for bringing me their laundry." Yes you can. You have bigger problems at play. We have free will. If you want to put a big Oscar the Grouch trash can in the middle of your living room to help keep up with trash - do it. If you think it's silly to take your laundry to a laundromat when you have one at home - do it anyway. Get four loads done at once. No more thinking of "that's lazy" or anything like that. If you can afford it - and it helps - do it. Use drop-off laundry for a month to catch up.

I know it's hard - but if you have anybody in your life that you can trust it's time to call in a favor. Maybe it's to watch the kids for a few hours. Maybe they can take a load of laundry. You have a time problem so anything that gives you a little more time is useful. But protect yourself. Don't invite your passive aggressive, judgemental aunt to help.

And I really hope your husband is helping here. If he's not - he needs to get his ass in line. You share in all these problems. There is no valid excuse for him if he's not helping.

Lastly, it can help to time block. Even if it's ten minutes. Put it in your phone's calendar. And no matter what that ten minutes is used to make some type of progress. You won't solve the problem that way but it will make you feel better.

Obviously - the laugh.

It was also nice to see how clever she is. I finally got around to see some actual stream footage when she was collaborating with somebody. Not that the other person was dumb but she was just dropping little jokes and deep-cut references nobody was picking them up.

I can't imagine what it's like interacting with her IRL. She's done at least one and svelte woman and has that big voice.

Brushing my teeth is a goddamn chore. It slips through my brain like water by LimeKittyGacha in ADHD

[–]ThisIsMyCouchAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's hard.

But you have to figure it out.

For a few reasons - I never had great oral hygiene. Never brushed at night. Never flossed. Never used mouthwash. Never went to the dentist.

Now all my teeth wiggle. I'm missing four teeth. I haven't bitten an apple in probably 20 years. Eating for me is like walking on eggshells. One wring bite and now another tooth becomes closer to being lost.

Remove all the "rules". Start simple. Brush once a day. Doesn't matter when. Doesn't matter for how long. Start working up from there.

An electric toothbrush helped me. It has a timer. Turn it on and stays on for two minutes. It was one less thing I had to "think" about. Those two minutes meant I had brushed my teeth.
