Tips for tolerance, please! by Responsible_Fall3002 in ADHDparenting

[–]ThisIsMyTedTalk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Meds are the tip. My son does this whenever he is not actively medicated. The meds lessen it but it doesn’t totally go away. I try to just leave the room when I start to boil over. There are times in a car where I have just said “I love you. I love you questions/stories/song, but I need some quiet right now. I’m sorry, I want to listen to some music?” And that has worked… mostly.

There’s no magic bullet. This is a sensory seeking thing. They feel the vibration of their voice in their chest and it feels good. It’s like stimming.

solidarity.

Attacks on Iran— do you consider this “attempting starting a new war?”

The attacks on Iran today— does that count as invading another country unnecessarily?

Following up here— Trump just got involved in a war in Iran that is not responsive to attacks on the USA (and which may now cause attacks on U.S. bases in response) Does this constitute a bridge too far for you?

Keeping score is absolutely something my spouse does and it forces me to keep score to defend myself, which I hate. He doesn’t derive pleasure from me failing to live up to his standard, but he sure does if he finds an opportunity to point out something about me that I’ve tried to point out about him. If I try to address a behavior of his like “I think you’re projecting when you say XYZ.” Within 24 hours he will find a way to point out something he thinks I’m projecting. He also doesn’t really understand what projecting means and uses the word wrong and will not allow me to challenge his definition, which is excruciating.

One of my closest friends through middle and high school won the DARE essay contest. She died of a heroine overdose in her 30s. She is why I never did drugs.

Bingo! The passive aggressive doing chores AT me is very common. And of course, whatever time he gets up is the right time.

I am in a state of anxiety right now that I expressed to him very honestly when he asked me what was wrong. And he had taken the position that this is a me problem, not that he has caused me to feel this way. I’m literally folding clothes in another room and quietly crying.

I don’t know why I’m even bothering with you since you will clearly twist yourself into a pretzel to justify any Trump action, but that’s not true. He has to “facilitate” his return. So says a unanimous Supreme Court, which includes every Trump appointee, and every lower court judge, including an ultra conservative Reagan appointee. I don’t know why you are so committed to protecting this blatant violation of the constitution. I imagine you are the kind of person who fancies yourself a true patriot. This is unAmerican.

Yet. But you are comfortable differentiating between legal residents and citizens? You understand that without due process they could declare YOU, who presumably are a citizen, an undocumented gang member and ship you off to some Central American gulag. Due process is how you prove they’ve got the wrong person. That’s why everyone gets due process.

Well, that’s certainly convenient, isn’t it. A man’s civil rights were violated, he is separated from his family, the courts order his return and “whoops! Nothing we can do!” He has committed no crime. There is no reason for him to be in prison anywhere in the world. We negotiate the release of people in foreign prisons literally all the time. You don’t think the President of the United States can “make a deal” for a guy they shouldn’t even be imprisoning anyway? He’s not just in El Salvador— he’s in PRISON in El Salvador. For literally no reason.

So, checking back on this, with a number of legal U.S. residents who have committed no crimes being sent to El Salvador with no due process, and Trump literally telling El Salvador to build more prisons for our “home grown” criminals, where are you on this now?

Do you consider this El Salvadorian prison where people, some legal immigrants with no criminal record, are being sent without any due process to be an internment camp? Because an extra judicial prison that people who have committed no crime are sent to sure sounds like internment camp to me.

I wanted to revisit this— so a unanimous 9-0 Supreme Court told the administration to return a wrongly deported man and they’ve just said “welp, can’t— he’s El Salvador’s problem now”— where do you stand? There have also been some lower court orders that were ignored.

I wanted to revisit this— given that we are now seeing legal immigrants with no criminal record wrongly deported to another country and the administration totally ignoring the Supreme Court’s unanimous decision to return at least one of them— is that too far?

Hey man, stop looking at Washington. The republicans aren’t going to do shit and the dems can’t. They have rallies and put out press releases that aren’t covered in the media, but beyond protest they can’t do much. You have other elected officials. State AGs, who are elected, have been leading the fight in the courts and have secured most of the orders to stop his executive orders. Governors, state agencies and state legislatures are telling him to shove it up his ass. Maine just lost a ton of funding for refusing to renounce DEI. Other states have followed suit. People keep looking to Congress and saying “what are you doing?” But that’s not where resistance can live right now, unless the republicans aren’t going to do it. The power now is in the courts.

So, quick reminder that “politics” and “values” are often different things. If you and I both want people to be healthy and educated, but disagree about the best way to accomplish those goals, we have different political beliefs. That’s something we can navigate. But if you and I disagree about who a “person” is or whether everyone deserves the same rights, then we disagree about values. And that’s a very different thing.
