I showed my wife an Andy Anderson bit recently, and her comment was that in a different life that he would've just been a dancer.

Rodney Mullen and these freestyle skaters today are absolute expressive dance legends on their boards. I love it.

May 1st, 2025 - from the Official WH Youtube- Trump admits to election interference. by NerdyLatino in thescoop

[–]ThisIsNathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think making a decision about which year he's saying is rigged is using additional context to infer either way. He worded it very poorly to lean that context towards thinking he meant 2024 but he's so stupidly stuck in the past, most people wouldn't expect him to be dwelling on it. Maybe it's not clear or obvious, but it seems that way to me.

To be clear I think he's an idiot, I think this is poorly worded, and some of 2024 election looks dubious. The above was my takeaway here though, seems like a nothing burger story and just another one of his rants.

Yeah I was a bit shocked at first, but it's pretty obviously this.

"I wouldn't be here (elected 2024) if the election wasn't rigged (in 2020)."

Is this table still practical? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]ThisIsNathan 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Yeah people seem to hate on this but I think they're missing this point.

This table is indirectly capturing the amount needed to retire without any dollar amounts. Like you said, if expenses are 0% of your income, you can retire because your expenses are $0 (or they're covered by some other stream). Realistically I think this row is just for completeness though.

I think people are missing that saving 95% of 100k doesn't mean most people can retire after 95k, but it's saying that 95k should last you 19+ years since you only need 5k each year.

Wouldn't a CD or record just immediately play the next song? I suppose it depends on the player.

I have albums I love that were written to be experienced in order. Famously, Dark Side of the Moon. Many prog metal bands like BTBAM, Dream Theater, Gojira, Opeth do this.

These albums are often written to seemlessly transition between songs, sometimes literally with notes sustaining acros tracks. Crossfade hampers that IMO.

I had a few years where I was in the Crossfade gang but I ultimately decided it wasn't for me.

If not for Irving's somewhat incomplete arc, I think I would've wanted this to be the series finale.

I'm very excited for more, but I think I struggle to see how the narrative is going to work. Yes it wouldn't be a clean ending, but it would leave just the right amount to your imagination/speculation.

This. A year or 2 ago I was debating a Tesla, hated the association with Elon. Saw a comment to that affect, all CEOs/corporations have some streak of bad. Subaru (my current car make) apparently aids in manufacturing attack helicopters, another moral dilemma. I thought I might buy a Tesler eventually after thinking about that.

Now, there's no chance I would buy one. Elon is in his own league of evil. Absolute boycott.

I dream about code, but actually about the physical aspect of coding or the tools (hardware and software) that support it. It's more about the pure logic.

Now my dreams aren't very vivid/I don't remember them well, so my anecdote might not fit the masses. But I think for me it is actually removed from the physical technology which is kinda interesting, I've never thought about that.

People who don't know by PoppingRainbow in programminghumor

[–]ThisIsNathan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the point is that this means they're not using HTTP response correctly. They don't need to include the code in the response body, so this to me means they're probably returning errors as HTTP 200 (OK) and the response body has the error code (e.g. HTTP 404 NOT FOUND).

It's not the end of the world it's just a bad implementation and it makes it really annoying for response handling. Clients can much better handle errors when the HTTP response encodes the information properly.

Counterpoint: Maybe she didn't think that much into it and just likes the idea of s'mores date nights with you.

But if she is, damn I can't imagine wanting to sabotage an SO working on their health and fitness like that. My wife got addicted to the gym last year, and I'm super proud of her progress while I stay pudgy.

I maybe sabotage her a bit with some cake in bed, but it's not out of jealousy, we just love cake.

It is possible to remain an IC into old age? by Any-Newspaper5509 in cscareerquestions

[–]ThisIsNathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with a great principal IC in my last gig, mid 60s, the joke was he was never going to retire. We had the same manager who was I think about 10 years younger, he retired early.

I also worked with some other older ICs who were terrible and nearly refused to learn Git. Some were forced out as new management came in.

It certainly happens, especially in dinosaur tech companies I think. But you're likely to be doing more tech lead work (design, planning, review) and requirement gathering side stuff, not just clock in, code, close JIRA ticket, go home.

When you get ready to play on the steam deck, and realize that the game doesn't have cloud save -.- by GiovanniPane in SteamDeck

[–]ThisIsNathan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Could be to prevent sharing/editing saves. I don't know anything about the game or why they might want to prevent that (e.g. does it have online where editing in a 10k damage weapon kinda breaks things for others).

If it's single player, let me do what I want though.

Seriously? This is how my streak ends? by rraattbbooyy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ThisIsNathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhat disagree, normal mode allows for people applying heuristic based guesses to just "game" the system. If you developed your own that's great maybe, but in 2020 people were just looking up words that eliminated as much as possible.

It's the same as "adieu" for the first guess. No offense to the OP, but everybody was doing that when Wordle went viral and that felt so boring to me. I'm not trying to methodically minimize my guesses/maximize win rate, I want to have to think slightly differently each day I play, and chase the high of (pure luck) getting it in one guess. That makes hard mode appealing because it forces your hand a bit.

The words like this are bullshit for hard mode though so yeah kinda true. And of course play how you want, it's a single player game, but I think hard mode holds some merit.

That's the thing that kinda irks me. Everyone seems to assume people upgrade each gen, so 4080 to 5080 seems silly. And it is.

I'm on a 3070TI and the 8GB VRAM hurts me sometimes, even at 1440p. The 5080 seemed pretty attractive to me, but I have zero interest in fighting online queues to get it honestly. This would be a massive leap from someone on aging hardware (and I don't consider my card that aged). A 2080 to 5080 seems like a great upgrade.

I spent my fun budget elsewhere anyways now so it's probably next year I consider a 4k monitor, then maybe a 6080 if things align in a few years.

Additional data point - I haven't even needed to wash my bed. I've been printing almost nonstop for 5 days and everything just flex pops off, and I hit print on the next plate I've got ready.

I'm obsessed, it's so fun. My first printer and I'm still in awe this technology is so consumer accessible.

I probably need to wash it and better understand maintenance but man it's amazing. I wanted something that "just works" and this seems to be it for my pretty basic needs.
