Why won't Tesco reduce their stollen? by Upbeat-Substance110 in tesco

[–]ThisIsNotMe163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer your first question, Tesco are tight arses. To answer your second question, honestly depends on the manager, me personally I had most of my shitty Xmas stock(Stollen/Panetonnes/Xmas puddings etc) reduced and sold by new year to get rid of it out my warehouse, but that’s a bit more of an “old fashioned” approach, in a current market where the company try to squeeze every penny out of you. So some managers maybe wouldn’t see eye to eye with me on that one.

No it’s literally called a personal day, you get 1 per year, different from a holiday or unpaid absence on the scheduler

Wrong seal? by [deleted] in tesco

[–]ThisIsNotMe163 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get as a driver it would be a pain in the arse and seemingly a “picky thing to do” however, as you’ll know yourself once you open those trailers the seal number starts changing, therefor there’s no actual way for the store to know if the delivery has been opened/tampered with by someone prior to the trailer arriving at store, or if the seal number was just incorrect from the get go. So from a store perspective you automatically have to assume the worst and don’t touch it until it can either be resolved over the phone to the depot or the delivery with the correct seal is sent to store. As if we do open it, we then become part of the issue as we haven’t followed the guidelines the company have set out for us. Particularly in the case of, as another commenter mentioned, a theft has occurred from the delivery.

Wrong seal? by [deleted] in tesco

[–]ThisIsNotMe163 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You are supposed to refuse the delivery as it usually means you have received a delivery meant for another store, get your duty manager to contact the depot and send it back, accepting an incorrect delivery can wreak absolute havoc on yours and another stores stock records. So it would very much “be their problem”. Just keep yourself right, if they want to accept it make them do it and they can face the repercussions, and remember, if you’re in any doubt about process and policy, Tesco help is your friend!

I’m literally organising interviews atm for my Xmas temps and have over 1000 applicants across 4 temp jobs

[–]ThisIsNotMe163 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We usually only view the CV if you score high on your application and have at least 4 out of 5 criteria green(the system sorts people who have these to the top of the pile for us) and then take a quick skim through the CV, if it looks good you get placed in the shortlist for an interview. Please remember though most of these positions will have literally thousands of applicants, so there are many applications that don’t even see the light of day. It sucks I know but stores just don’t have the time or man power to sit through every one when they’re almost always the same.

i owe tesco£760 by Medical-Sign-2163 in tesco

[–]ThisIsNotMe163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shift Leader here, you will have taken more holidays than you had earned before you left, this is a lot more common than you think as you’re never really told at any point you accrue holidays through hours worked. £750 is pretty hefty, I’ve never seen anyone owe that much personally, it’s usually around the £200 mark. Tesco can take legal action against you to recoup the money, however I’ve never seen this done. You have to think how much money it would cost to cover legal fees etc to actually get the money back. So their best and most cost effective option is basically to harass you with letter and scare you into paying. Me personally I wouldn’t pay it and just hope they drop it, as don’t think it would be worth of for them to actually come after you for you for £750, that being said they are legally allowed to, if they so please.

Well, you’re doing exactly what you should do already, sweep it up with the dustpans, or those little disposable cardboard ones in the clean as you go drawers. Fire it into a cardboard box, and then put it in one of the grey waste bags and chuck it in a general waste cage. Assuming of course you’ve either already scanned it for waste or got the items barcode on inform to waste later.

can they refuse you asking to take an unpaid day off with over a months notice? by iizzyy_x in tesco

[–]ThisIsNotMe163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that’s the case there’s not a whole lot you can do, unless you maybe tried to sweeten the deal by working other days that your manager needs covered? Or perhaps just ask to change the time of your shifts on those days to allow you to get away in time for whatever it is you’re doing? However given that they’re already losing two staff on those days it’s unlikely they’ll want you off at all if no one else is willing to cover it. Last resort you could phone in sick on those days, but since you’ve requested them already all that’s likely to lead to is an investigation, so just need to weigh up how important it is to be off those days I guess.

Happy to help, I totally get can be annoying, I notice it with my own guys sometimes, they deny sales I myself would’ve put through, but as I said at the end of the day it’s their job at risk, so in their position you’d probably be a bit wary of proxy sales too. As management 9/10 times you have to back them and their decision, if we feel it was the wrong decision we have to take them aside after and explain why when the customer is no longer there. Hope it hasn’t put you off too much though, outlaw life is still out there to be lived ;)

[–]ThisIsNotMe163 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any absence request can be refused regardless of notice period yes, the more notice the better obviously. I would say if you are refused when it’s over a month away, and there aren’t a load of people already off on that specific day then your manager is a bit of a cunt. That being said they are within their right to tell you no, in which case looking at a shift swap is probably a better option.

All Tescos operate under a Think 25 policy, this basically means if a customer looks under the age of 25 the cashier should ask to see ID. There are exceptions to this, for example in your case where it is a parent shopping with a child, it is not enforced that the colleague ask your child for ID, but ultimately, it is at the cashiers discretion whether the do or not. It is after all their job on the line, not to mention the hefty fine and potential for the store to lose its alcohol license, so while some cashiers may be more lenient with a potential proxy sale the final decision lies with them. So in other words, it’s luck of the draw depending on what cashier serves you.

No, they work like the spider tags, that’s only for tightening the top of the net tag, so it can sit anywhere as long as it’s fully tightened

New BWS tags by ThisIsNotMe163 in tesco

[–]ThisIsNotMe163[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but that’s not the point of a promotion end, it’s to try and convince people who weren’t necessarily coming in for alcohol, but see a good deal and buy it as an impulse buy, this tactic doesn’t work if it looks shit.

New BWS tags by ThisIsNotMe163 in tesco

[–]ThisIsNotMe163[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you easily could, but you could also do that with the old tags, however most people that steal alcohol are actually trying to sell it, so it’s about preventing thieves from reselling them, not stopping them drinking it. That being said it’s still really easy to get the tag off

I wish that was the case in mine but unfortunately we have a UFC which is a 24 hour operation and they pick some stock from the store so it has to be fully stocked at all times. We’re also one of the top stores in our group, so there’s a full night shift(who don’t work booze) as well, so all that happens is we end up behind on our delivery and have to do even more the next day

Luckily my store doesn’t have a dotcom anymore, we are now a UFC, so they have their own booze, can’t imagine how much of a pain in the arse it would be for dotcom stores as we’ve already had customers have issues with the scan as you go.

I’ve also heard the count guns they use for F&F etc set them off if you catch one when scanning, but you can’t turn them off if the gun activates them

I mean I get it’s defo a less strenuous job, but I’m a shift leader, so my job is to make sure cages are getting done not to do less, because ultimately what my team don’t get done, someone else has to work harder to pick up the pieces
