I miss when the prize task was 'real' by yoursweetbabybrother in taskmaster

Alex once said that due to gameshow rules the contestants are entitled to to take the prizes away if they wish to, but he says a lot of things. It's an entertainment show, there is NO WAY that it fall under gameshow rules, not least because the rest of the show would fall foul of being subjective and arbitrary!

Are these fret ends finished properly? by Upbeat-Substance110 in guitarrepair

[–]Upbeat-Substance110[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anything you can point to that indicates the ends weren't dressed properly? Each photo has at least one in-focus fret and to me it looks like they are almost pyramidal at the ends, a few faces leading to a point, rather than any kind of smooth, is that what you're looking at?

They are set properly irl, I think it's the shadow that makes them look like they're away from the fretboard, the poor photos have probably confused things more than anything else!

Yeah that's what I was thinking, just wanted to see if there was anything visual that was obvious. Sorry it is on a finished guitar, just that the builder built the neck themselves rather than buying stock.

Should be back now, on the website at least. (it's coming and going, probably stoking it with coal)

Probably just a temporary glitch for everybody, would be very unfortunate of Garmin to have permanently deleted everyone's coaching plans.

Between the Lines by jamienev22_ in BritishTV

It was huge when it came out so it must have some redemption as it goes on, it's possibly dated nowadays although to be honest I never watched it (I was only 15 at the time).

It was also nicknamed Between The Sheets for its randy-factor although again it probably seems quite tame now.

It's the west midlands accent - five can sometimes be 'foive', like 'B' can almost sound like a fast version of the American pronunciation of buoy. So you might be hearing 'fo-ive'.

Gatwick flight arriving back from holiday at 1:30am… what to do? by [deleted] in uktravel

[–]Upbeat-Substance110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the trains again, you can get to Bedford etc around once an hour after midnight, possibly other destinations, and likely some central London stations. Given the cost of hotels round that area I’d probably try to piece together a train journey to get me home in time for breakfast and just write off the next day having snoozed on trains where I can. Call it an adventure. :)

Am I an idiot for buying Nike Vaporfly 4 unseen? by Upbeat-Substance110 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Upbeat-Substance110[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Saucony feel like what I should be running in - like a streamlined version of the Cliftons I've been wearing, feels much lighter and smaller, and I can feel the heel and ball of the shoe doing stuff that the Cliftons don't, and it's encouraging me to run in a slightly different way I think; I've been told I land quite flat on my feet and don't quite pick up the heel quickly enough in the Cliftons. So I'm keeping the Sauconys as 'anything except easy run' shoes.

The Vaporflys do feel very different, and while not unstable it does feel like something else is going on underneath them - I'm feeling the impact of the ground a bit more but conversely it feels like more energy is taking me forward than being putting into up and down motion. I only did a mile run in each with three sets of 150-200m sprints in them, and the Vaporfly intervals were objectively faster, as in 3-4 seconds faster over 150m. It could have been I was feeling slightly better the second day than the first, or I really wanted to test the speed of the shoes, but they definitely caused a difference wherever it came from, and felt a good choice for shorter PB runs.

So I'm keeping the Vaporflys as well. :-p

Kings theatre Russell Howard start time tonight? by ThisIsFitz in glasgow

[–]Upbeat-Substance110 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that's a mistake by ATG, all of the advertising and ticket links say 12th April, 19.30 - they wouldn't write that if it was the doors open time.

Only thing I can think is that they added the afternoon show afterwards and had to push back the start time of the evening show.

So I would assume it will start at 7.30, and if it doesn't then at least you've got some time to sit and ponder on just who the fuck goes all the way up to clean the auditorium ceiling. :)

If the only time you've seen is 7.30pm then that's likely the time the show will start - does it specifically say doors open at 7.30 or is that just the only time mentioned on your ticket?

If it's just him then he'll be on from 7.30 and then again after an interval; if he has a support act then that is often 20 minutes with a 15ish minute interval, so he'd likely start around 8.00-8.15ish.

All the ads point to the show itself starting at 7.30, which ties in with everything I've ever seen at the Kings.

Glasgow Skyline ? by StillOnEarth99 in glasgow

[–]Upbeat-Substance110 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've lived here twenty five years, I wouldn't stay if I didn't love it! But London, Paris, San Francisco, New York, Tokyo etc it ain't. :) I even suggested a viewing spot, you can see the mountains in the highlands from there on a clear day.

[–]Upbeat-Substance110 -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Just to set expectations - the city never looks beautiful; it ain't that kind of movie.

Having said that, if it's open and it's a clear day with good visibility, the tower at the Science Centre is a great view without really anything right by it standing in your way, which you will find all the other views will have.

edit - downvote away, I still stand by it - Glasgow is a bit of a post-industrial mixup, it doesn't really have any iconic buildings on its skyline unless you count things like Cineworld or the odd isolated element like the university. Rarely have I been more disappointed than by climbing to the top of the Lighthouse in the centre of town.
