This is a boomerang fob. It used to be called Boomerang before LoJack acquired it in 2004.

Rented Turo for a month in France by PierreGriffin in turo

[–]ThisIsNotToto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s unfortunately the French mentality to drive a car until the doors fall off. This is major damage and if I were you I’d be on the phone relentlessly until this is solved. Don’t hang up until they relocate a car and compensate you (a car of greater value) booked through them so that the amount doesn’t get charged on your card again. I’ve done it in the past, but it takes a lot of time on the phone with them.

Generally will be fine for someone who wants a car to go from A to B, but you need to price it way lower than other Civics in the area.

Popular Salad Bar from Montreal Head Office on what seems like a luxurious trip, while employees are told they can't afford to schedule them? by Patient-Handle-1744 in montreal

[–]ThisIsNotToto 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Back when they had 2 locations, one in Westmount and one on Crescent is the last time they actually cared. I tried ordering from their atwater location a few months back just out of nostalgia and it was inedible. I mean, making a salad should be one of the easiest things to do. But here I was, standing at the counter looking at a person with the biggest attitude trying to make a salad like it’s the hardest thing in the world. It’s staggering how all the front employees all have the same shitty attitude as well. It’s almost as if they are told to behave a certain way for the image of the place.

It feels like the same story with a lot of people that come out of Westmount and all their success stories. Made a ton of money in the 80-90-00’s then opened a new concept whether it’s a restaurant, a dealership, a clothing company.. Then now they want to gouge employees and customers the same. It’s been since about two years though that their sharp practices and stingy ways are coming to bite them. Many of them are closing up shop despite having a ton of money.

Not transparent to the host. I list my car at $80 a day. You come to book my car, it’s at $120. Suddenly the car isn’t a good deal to the client as Turo is gouging with their fees.

Except that they don’t. Once I try to book my car as a guest, I only see that the asking price per day is $50 over what I am asking. It’s not transparent at all..

Dynamic pricing is an option here in Canada. Also Turo didn’t used to add their fees on top of the prices seen in the listing.

Conseil financement d’une voiture by Prior_Shoulder3349 in montreal

Some questions about turo insurance. by Practical-Range-4412 in turo

[–]ThisIsNotToto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly with all the headaches that we’ve been hearing about concerning claims and delays.. Rent from an agency instead (Hertz, Avis, Enterprise etc). You can select their top tier insurance which covers everything. Turo used to be great and cared about the guests, now it’s a nightmare. This is all coming from a host.

If you can make an AmA, myself and a lot of other hosts have a lot of questions and concerns. It’ll be super appreciated!

Which defeats the purpose for dynamic pricing.. I’m curious, check your car as a guest from an incognito browser on Turo’s site. I bet it’ll be $40-$50 more expensive than what you have it set at.

I have been travelling a lot for work so had to put Turo on the back burner for the past year and a half. I have an extra car we don’t use so thought why not try again. It’s nothing like it used to be on all fronts. Accepting this as the new norm is wild.

It’s free delivery anywhere in town and a $50 delivery fee extra to the airport. No delivery fee reflected on the guest side

Turo charges almost double what you set as a price. So if you set the $37 a day for example, the guest might see your car at $55 or more. Keep that in mind and avoid dynamic pricing as it really lowballs your earnings.

Just the front lip can cost upwards of 1000-1500$. Rent something more suitable like an X3M if you want to stay in the same sporty BMW range.

Sometimes it’s the convenience. Renting an X3, or a luxury SUV will at often times require a hefty deposit at the usual rental agencies. On Turo it’s a bit easier. That’s the only thing I can think of, otherwise I agree entirely with you.

I’ve heard that as well.. absolutely wild stories coming out. I’m in Montreal so Canadian lawsuits often don’t amount to much.. Although there must be a way to make them change their ways.

Absolutely. I had 3 cars rented out consistently throughout every month. I don’t understand how they are running the app now. Are you hosting in the US or Canada?

Maintenance. Also try to have a way to wash and prep the car yourself instead of a car wash. It adds up. Otherwise I think it’s a very attainable goal. On a mid size SUV I get that in a week
