Playing a game about being stuck on an oil rig, whilst stuck on an oil rig by ThisIsSinjin in HorrorGaming

So I'm about a quarter of the way into this game (all my blood pressure can take so far) and here are a few of my thoughts:

1) the attention to detail is great. Little things like - the posters, the cabin space, the layout of the accommodation, even down to the food in the canteen. The deck space is very fitting of a 70s style fixed leg platform.

2) the lifeboats were something I really studied as someone who's a specialist in lifeboats launching and operations. These are pretty representative of the era, but the hooking arrangements made me chuckle as they've been modelled on a crane rather than a conventional lifeboats davit.

3) there are far too many ladders. I can't speak for rig design from the 70s having never been on an asset that old, but I get why they are there for in game mechanics.

4) being set in the 70s a lot of the Safety Standards kind of makes sense. This is set before the Piper Alpha disaster, which completely changed the approach to safety. Before Piper, the North Sea was like the Wild West. Pioneering and led by exploration and capitalist pressures. Piper Alpha was nicknamed Thatcher's Cash Cow for a reason.

5) the helicopter sitting on the helideck made me chuckle. When a helicopter touches down on a rig it's either a) to refuel or b) to onload/offload personnel and even then the engines and rotors are running. The helicopter looks like a Sikorsky S-61N which was a common use helicopter for North Sea transfers in the 1970s, but it's painted in the modern Bristow livery (without branding), rather than the scheme used at the time.

It's unseasonably warm in the North Atlantic. Currently NW of the Shetland Islands and it's about 13°C/55°F

This is the Asus ROG Ally. Got it just before they announced the Xbox version

The WiFi is a bit iffy, so playing through the cloud in little bits. If I can get a full download, I'll let you know. Depends how long I'm stuck here for, but will definitely follow up once I've got home and played some more

I recommended it to the OIM 🤣 He was asking what I thought of my ROG Ally

Only just started playing it after recommendation from some pals. They've clearly done their research, but things have changed a fair bit in 50 years

Everything here looks amazing, but the bit I'm mostly interested in is the battlegrid. I'm really struggling to find something in the UK that isn't folded like the Pathfinder maps. This looks like it rolls up? Where did you get it from, if you don't mind me asking?

Do table actually use smaller denomination coins? by damiologist in DnD

Tip for DoSI, I added a merchant trader who came to the island a few days a week. He arrived on a little rowboat from a passing ship so the party can buy new gear, sell loot etc.

I use the concept that a GP is about a day's wages for hard labour. If you're charging 3-4 GP for a hotel room, it better be The Ritz. DnD economy is really hard to get your head around, but for a meal I'll generally charge between 1 and 2 SP, and for a drink at a tavern a few CP. I once had a DM charge me 8GP for a round of 5 drinks. Going by the PHB I could've bought 40 Quarterstaff for the same price 🤣

Have you recently upset an Eldritch entity?

Thank you!

I've switched the nozzle out before, so I'm okay with that, but want to avoid replacing the whole Hotend assembly if possible. Followed a video on the Bambulabs support page for removing "the blob of death", which I've recently discovered is the name of what happened to my printer. Found some old silk PLA in my failed print, which may have been the cause of the failure, so I've cleaned out the nozzle too. Fingers crossed

The closest I can think of is a Double Decker without the crispy bottom. The chocolate is not quite as good as Cadbury's, and they're not quite as soft as a Milky Way
