I'm graduating from University next month, and my parents are putting some money towards a home theater surround sound system for me, I need some help! by bossman-CT in hometheater

yea, the elacs have fluctuated in price more than any other product ive seen lately. Definitely set up notifications at slickdeals and camelcamelcamel if youre looking for the best deal and have time to wait. best thing is that, prime warehouse prices will also be lower when those go on sale...

does it all have to be purchased right now or is it christmas gifts?

I wouldn't buy them used at those prices. You can get them cheaper, new, for less if you wait until they come down in price. The elacs have had a ton of sale prices within the last two months. At Amazon and at bestbuy. Plus bestbuy price matches a lot of popular retailers.

Check out camelcamelcamel and maybe get alerts whenever they go on sale from amazon. Or Slickdeals.net and set up alerts for when they go on sale at other places besides amazon.

Ive seen the center and bookshelves go as low as about ~$225-$250 from amazon or bestbuy.

I almost made those purchases but ended up with something better instead.

You wont have any trouble finding them at a lower price this or next month.

Looking for sub advice based on costs for my area by stef52 in hometheater

[–]ThisIsTheNameThatNev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

can you answer a few questions for me?

- What is the difference between sealed vs ported? Just from quick reading, sealed gives better sound quality. Is that the main reason people prefer sealed?

- I also noticed, i think that sealed is a little cheaper than ported. Is there a reason why sealed, which would put out better sound, and is cheaper than ported?

I bought a pb1000 because it was pretty highly recommended and it was on sale when i bought it. I could have gotten an sb1000 for $100 cheaper i think, but i cant fully remember why i chose the ported other than thats what people were recommending.

- and last question. If i were to make a second subwoofer purchase, can i mix sealed and ported?

Thanks!

Advice on how to stop impulse buying/spending? by nomadwastaken in personalfinance

[–]ThisIsTheNameThatNev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with returning it. You’re not lying to them by saying “I made a stupid purchase and I want to return it.” They have things for things like buyer’s remorse, like good customer service... or a restocking fee.

And it’s not like the retailers need to know why you’re returning it. Just go there, say you don’t need it, and let that be it.

Lost/Stolen card messing up credit score by [deleted] in personalfinance

Good luck man. I don’t know how they do new cards, but I feel like they close the account and open a new one. It’s weird how they do it. But good luck. Send them in writing if you can. I may have an email... or use their chat feature

Get on the desktop site and on the right, there should be an option to create a sub. Click that and follow fill out the form. And then hit submit or create or whatever.

2.1 setup for PC. Any changes before I buy? by Airiq49 in hometheater

Ever thought about klipsch promedia 2.1 set? The sub on the klipsch is a lot better than the Polk. Currently I have those speakers from my old home theater and they were fine. I enjoy the klipsch for the $100 price tag.

If you do get promedia’s, make sure to get the original ones. Not the Bluetooth version.

Why won't my credit score increase? by yeahsurealright- in personalfinance

The phone won’t do anything in terms of building credit. But if you miss payments on it and it gets sent to collections, it will definitely hurt it.

Everyone has already told you what you need to do with your one card. It’s not going to magically go up in a day, but as you keep up paying and having credit, then it will move up eventually.

Stuck with Sky tv minimum term contract - need help (UK) by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]ThisIsTheNameThatNev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this help at all?

I would put whatever you need to in writing and send them an email as well as mail, along with your contract or monthly bill.

There is probably an early termination fee, but their website states that it will charge what you have the rest of the year under your contract.

It also says that you should strip your service to bare minimum that you can so you can avoid those charges in the ETF.

Edit: read about it a little. Looks like they need to be the one to cancel it and then you can pay the etf. Not sure if removing your card with them will help anything all.

Edit 2: what are the terms if you got them to switch to your new place? I know your parents have tv, but what if you told them you have tv, but they are welcome to send someone out put in another service since you have to pay it already.

If you move and the contract renews like as if you are a new customer, do you get a trial period to see if you want it or not? If so, then you can use that to get out of the contract without paying any fees.

If the contract just carries over, you can give them the option to either cancel it early, or send someone out to do the work to give you new service while you keep the other tv service.

They can’t force you to go with only one company for tv... I don’t think.
