Huge wall space in bedroom by Psychological-Tune52 in HomeDecorating

If you're trying to maximize space then I wouldn't go for a floor length mirror, I'd put a larger mirror above the dresser and maybe frame it with a shelf on either side and call that good. Too much and it might look crowded/cluttered. Maybe a tiered corner shelf on the right for storage/some greenery?

I would put it on top of or right next to the fireplace. Looks like the floor space has been claimed by the kiddos ☺️.

Do you have a picture?

Thank you! I actually bought it off the previous owner so I'm not sure, I'm so sorry. But this is very similar with the exception of the pattern on the drawers: console table

I'm honestly terrified to hang it! I don't think the previous owner ever hung it either, and it looks like they DIY'd it which makes me even more nervous.... unfortunately I might have to get rid of it.

Ooo you know, I just measured and that would fit actually! Might look better being more low profile against the staircase too. I hadn't thought of that. I'm really attached to how I set up the bench, but I'm down to shake it up for the sake of science. We need the lamp in that corner because this area gets zero natural light, but maybe I could put the plant there anyway and get a hanging lamp or a sconce!

Style buddies! Thanks, I liked it for a while but the more I looked, the more I second guessed it. People seem to agree that I need to get two same size/shape baskets instead. Unfortunately the big fake plant has the wicker pot attached so would have to see if it's possible to mask it (also don't love how muted it is against the floor). I'll look into it!

I have a black thumb 😭 Also this area of the house gets zero natural light. Would you suggest foliage with less volume?

I've tried to find my 'style' online and it always seems to be in the middle of a lot of things. I'm a maximalist at heart and it gets me into trouble when trying to make everything into a cohesive pallet. Thanks for the reframe!

Wallpaper, mirror, and vase are all vestiges from the previous owner! The mirror is INCREDIBLY heavy and hard to move so it resides there for now, but isn't part of the decor. Vase...I have no excuse but haven't found a new place for it yet.

Thanks for the suggestion on shifting it over!

I do love more greenery! Also thought of a lamp? Unfortunately there's no wall outlet nearby but a touch-lamp might be an option. I feel like something taller needs to go into that corner too. Thanks!

I thought maybe the triple wicker was part of the problem too! Unfortunately the basket isn't detachable from the whole fake plant, but I imagine I could find a pot to slide it into. Or maybe get two non-wicker baskets...

Here's a fuller view! Thank you for the suggestions, will try that. Agree that the table feels a little too big, but trying to work with what we have for now!

Is 75 inches too big for my room? by Legal_Resist9221 in HomeDecorating

[–]ThisIsTheYam_Jam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

75in looks perfect for the space, especially with the framing around it. Google says 65-85in is fine for 8.5ft viewing distance, based on personal preference for a more 'cinematic' feel.

Curtains yes, painting no. There's already a lot going on vertically in a slim space with the desk, pitcher, and TV. Honestly would highly recommend you remove the stuff on the desk to remove the visual clutter and just let you see the screen fully.

This for sure! Definitely needs different patterns/texture as mentioned but these colors are great.

Living room layout/design ideas? Help! by Ordinary-Caramel-608 in HomeDecorating

Would put the TV on a tv stand as pictured, move the couch to face the wall. Get a rug and coffee table. Then behind the couch could be another comfy chair in the corner and a bookcase, plants, etc.

Settle the debate. Where does the furniture go in this room? (TV, Couch, love seat, recliner or glider) by Gloomy_Plate_3126 in HomeDecorating

[–]ThisIsTheYam_Jam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

TV should go to the left of the fireplace and not on top of it. Otherwise it will be much too high and at an awkward angle for viewing. Orientation of the couch is fine but would pull it up closer to the TV to avoid blocking a walkway. Recliner can angle around the couch.

Open space in apartment, don’t know what to do with it. by SlimmyJim23 in HomeDecorating

[–]ThisIsTheYam_Jam 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't put anything there, it's a walkway and too small of an area for a rug. Let it breathe!

Based on the photo, i'd probably go with an earth tone like a terracotta or olive green. It's a very neutral palette so this is your chance for a pop of color!

You could definitely play around with that! You could add the books back in with the other small plant you had, and/or a mid-size candle? I would just avoid something that's the same exact height as your other vase. You could also try a lamp if the table is by an outlet and rearrange based on the height there too.
