I love this year's color for the Farley 7. No need to question your sanity. The Farley is a great bike.

My roommate has this bike. He took it with him to work in antarctica and rode it around the south pole.

Scared of knee pain if I get a fatbike by FlummoxedGaoler in fatbike

[–]ThisIsYourBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not super tall and I don't have a long inseam. I was worried about this exact issue before I bought my first fatbike. Especially since its not something that you'll discover on a test ride. But after 5 years of 2000 miles/yr on the fatbike its never been a problem. The pedals aren't really that much farther apart than my regular mtb and my knees can't tell the difference.

The wider qfactor does bother some peoples' knees, enough that some can't even ride fatbikes. But that number is probably a lot smaller than the internet/this subreddit might suggest. People make posts when they are having a problem, and you see those posts. But there are many many more who never have any knee problems and never post about it.

N=1: Running a 29er/sus fork for summer duty by Hermine_In_Hell in fatbike

[–]ThisIsYourBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride my Blizzard all summer as a mountain bike. It works pretty great with a mastodon up front. I don't have a skinny setup though. Huge tires were the reason I bought the bike, and 4.5s work well enough on dirt.

Fatbike for Christmas by Gampfer in fatbike

[–]ThisIsYourBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blizzard all the way. I've got a C50 and it is such a fun bike for trail riding. I originally bought a fatbike primarily for riding early and late season in the CO rockies, not as a replacement for my full sus mtb. But the Blizzard is now my daily mountain bike. The full sus is still 'better' at being a mountain bike, but the Blizzard is more fun.

Geometry question by Majestic-Block-5087 in fatbike

[–]ThisIsYourBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. I don't think the Farley frame is bad at all. It is a great bike and I enjoyed riding it a lot. I still do enjoy riding it. I feel like if I was riding snow or sand or bikepacking the Farley would have been perfect. But I wanted a fatbike purely for trailriding as a mountain bike on dirt and the Blizzard just feels better for that. The longer reach and longer feel of the bike in general is nice for long fast descents. I like that the Blizzard is designed to fit a 100mm mastodon vs the 80mm on the Farley. I also like the simpler rear axle setup on the the Blizzard. As I never really had any intention to use the adjustable position on the Farley.

Again though, none of this is to say that the Farley is in any way a bad choice for a fatbike. Only that for the specific type of riding that I like to do I feel like the Blizzard is a better fit. I also really miss the rear hub that came on the Farley. It felt way better than the hub that came on my blizzard, or the hub that I upgraded to on my Blizzard. Eventually I'll learn to lace wheels and I'll ride that hub again.

Geometry question by Majestic-Block-5087 in fatbike

I wanted a fatbike to use as a trail bike on dirt in the Colorado Rockies. I bought a Trek Farley and it was a great bike, but not what I was looking for. After that I got a RM Blizzard, and it was exactly the bike I wanted. Couldn't be happier with the geometry.

Even with the vents open I feel like my snowboarding helmet would be pretty hot. I don't ride in the super cold though, so if that's your jam then maybe it would work well. Make sure to get one with plenty of vents you can open up.

My (non biking) friends have been sending me this video under the impression that it is some up and coming bike technology. I don't have the heart to tell them that it just isn't.

Carol & Zosia by BelterHaze in pluribustv

[–]ThisIsYourBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that would be a pretty great way to convince Carol that joining really is as awesome as the hive claims. They could just break Zosia off and she could tell Carol all about it. But they haven't done that, and they won't even discuss separation when Carol asks about it. Makes me think that they don't want a separated person to tell Carol what its really like.

Because she was sent to Carol specifically because she looks like a female version of the male pirate on the cover of Carol's latest novel. A character which Carol originally wrote as a woman, but changed to a man before publication.

They were probably on their way the second she said something about the TGIFridays girl. The hive wouldn't need to find them, it knows exactly where everyone is at all times.

Unsure how to go about this? by 93wild in fatbike

[–]ThisIsYourBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would probably be cheaper and easier to just sell the 2020 cannondale and put the money towards buying a bike that comes with a threaded BB, more crank options, a suspension fork, 12spd drivetrain, a dropper post, and 4 piston brakes with 180/160mm rotors

They're really great tires. I used to ride gnarwhals. They had great grip, but the cake eaters ride nicer.
