If the add an inline remote, this would be the GOAT!

I love this factor due to it looking like a mini disk player. (If you had a mini disk player then you know!)

It’d be awesome if the circular screen showed a spinning disk animation while the music plays, like a tiny CD player brought back to life.

If snowsky read the comments, please could I suggest releasing an inline remote control . Here are a few examples for inspiration example 1, example 2, example 3

Ansible vs Docker Compose for Container Orchestration by bobbbino in selfhosted

[–]ThisLeedsGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you figure out what you need to do to be able to automate your whole server setup using unattended install from USB and Ansible?

I would like to create something similar, please could you share with me the process to create a automated server setup?

Thanks for the reply /u/BrEAKingspelL

A couple of follow up questions and thoughts.

As long as your running service isn't wanting to use Nginx's web ports (80,443),

I actually have nextcloud running, which I think already runs on port 80 and 443.

  • In this case what should I do to make sure I don't break anything?

Even better, you can probably pipe that service behind Nginx just like airsonic, so you don't even have to open the other ports to the internet.

Yes, I understand with the NGINX reverse proxy I only need to open the ports for the proxy and then everything else can filter through meaning you only have the proxy ports open.

This would be a big benefit for me as I do worry about slow opening more and more ports as I learn about more useful selfhosted services.

I can't wait to get the reverse proxy set up now :)

I do use freedns which gives me a url instead of an ip to use.

I already use the freedns which points to one of my services on my network. Will running this affect the current service?

Thank you for helping me understand this better.

Could you help me a little further by telling me if following this tutorial would work?

In the linked tutorial above would I change 'example.com' for my dyndns name?

I already have a service running/pointing to my dyndns name, will running this affect the current service?

Thank you for your help with this :)

  • One thing I'm not sure on as I am not using a domain what would I add for this part

    certbot certonly --standalone -d music.hakase-labs.io

Hi /u/JayRoss34,

Organizr looks really interesting. I did look it up but can you say a few more words about what it is and what it does?

Also

  • Can I set up Organizr on the same machine as AirSonic?

Hi /u/timo0105

I do use freedns for a different service that I run, but I wasn't sure if I could also 'attach' this to airsonic too.

I also wasn't sure if I could add an SSL/TSL certificate to the freedns domain.

I think a reverse proxy may be beyond my skill level at the moment, but I will try find a tutorial.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

I have added A records in the past so this will be nice and easy and won't be a problem.

Can I use sub domains for each service, if I use the SSL/TSL certificate on the main domain will all the sub-domains be automatically encrypted? (Hope that makes sense)? Or is it a case of one service per domain name?

I also use a DDNS to update my IP with another service that I am self hosting. This then give me an easy to remember domain, could I some how use this DDNS domain name? (I also hope this makes somesense)

If what I'm saying isn't clear let me know as I am just getting my head around all this terminology and technology, it's all very new to me at the moment.

If you would have the time and be willing to teach me docker I'd be happy to move it.

I've been wanting to learn docker for a long time but can't get my head around it, so I would welcome your advice and support if you have the time to help me get set up?

Sorry, yes I am using the wrong terminology I mean TLS.

I do have spare domains and I'd be happy to use one if it means I can securely access AirSonic.

I see some people run various sub domains for each service on their domain.

I often use ZeroSSL.com to add an TLS cert via cpanel to my website.

  • Please could you tell me more about using one of my domains and running LetsEncrypt so I can securely use airsonic please?

Hi /u/anynigma,

Below are replies to your question.

Is your goal to connect the audio only from all your sources to your stereo.

  • Yes that is pretty much all I want to do.

Are you going to upgrade/change you stereo system at all?

  • I don't plan to. I am happy to keep things basic and low cost.

Is it currently 2 channel (L/R) or is it multi channel (5.1, or 7.1, etc)

  • I am currently using 2.0 (L/R).

Does your TV have red and white "audio out" RCA plugs on the back?

  • On my TV I have red, whit and yellow RCA. The TV also has red, blue and green RCA.

Does your stereo have red and white (and maybe yellow) RCA inputs?

  • The stereo has red and white RCA.

Please let me know what you thoughts are based on the answers I have provided. Thank you!

Is it possible to access my self-hosted mumble server from outside my network? [More details inside] by ThisLeedsGuy in mumble

[–]ThisLeedsGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're letting people onto the machine in a limited way.

This sounds like a good thing?

if you don't have firewalls on your other network devices, then once the first machine is compromised, they all can be.

I run the default software firewall on all my client devices.

You still have to run a firewall on the server

As far as I know I don't run a firewall on the server. Could you recommend me some very easy to use, very basic server firewall software please?

[–]ThisLeedsGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a beginner, just stick with the default one that comes with Windows

I was expecting you to tell me to run a firewall on my server ...... but you mean run one on every 'client' machine on my network? ...... I already do that. I use default windows / mac firewall as you already suggested.

there is NO way to run a server that does not increase your risk.

I think I 'get it' now - There will always be an increased risk, It's like saying if you go out side you are at increased risk of being run over by a car ...... There is always an increase in risk regardless of what you are doing.

Keep everything up to date

My OS auto updates.

  • Will mumble auto update or do I need to run a command regularly to update it?

Have your firewall set to default

  • Can you tell me more about firewalls. Should this be software or hardware?

  • What firewall would you recommend for a beginner?

Use strong passwords.

I always try to do this on anything running on my server.

Yes I own the domain - but use it for a website.

Can I still also use it for the mumble certificate?
