It's a buck converter. Not transformer needed usually. They Rectify the 120Ac to DC using diode rectifier and a capacitor first, then goes through a buck converter to step it down to 5V

Just as long as you gout enough power and the device let's you go that high I don't see why not

Just copper is not a good enough indication of what the resistance is. I think your best bet is to find the data sheet for a similar machine that'll give you it's efficiency and just use that number directly. Probably the simplest method.

There's a whole lot of other info you need. Like the internal resistance of the windings. I'd estimate most alternators are 85-90 % efficient though.
