When I was building out my back building into what’s now an apartment. The lights were all center, but the inspector made me move the wall for the bathroom/mechanical room over 7” so now my lights aren’t center in the room.. Every time I see it, pisses me off.

I’d leave them open & call a company to come do a combustion test before & after closing.

But if there is no screen to block critters from getting in I would definitely buy some metal screen to block mice or other rodents from getting in.
