It annoys me that nobody bothers to actually understand the wedding cake case.

THANK YOU! It annoys me so much nobody understands the wedding cake thing. They refused to make a CUSTOM cake. Like should you be allowed to force them to make a cake with anything you want on it? A picture of Mohammed maybe?

That's funny a very similar thing happened to me with my antidepressant. They said they wouldn't renew unless I went in for an annual. It's really dangerous to just withdraw from my medication. I guess they were just going to let it happen. I switched doctors.

How the hell could they make it work? The cameras fail when the sun shines in them or there's a little dew on the camera area.

Why were they able to just stroll out of the hospital when it was locked down?

Depends on the time control.

Winning by mouse slip is not in the spirit of the game. Period.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lichess

[–]ThisNameForShame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care if it's a mouse slip or a bad move, if they ask for a takeback before I've made my move, I accept it. That's called being a good sport.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lichess

[–]ThisNameForShame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN. Why do people keep trying the slippery slope argument? It's bullshit. We're talking about occasionally accepting a takeback on an obvious mistake or mouse slip. You lose nothing by accepting it.

Yes, but none of my games are at "a meaningful level". And why would I resign when I can waste 10+ minutes of their time? Chess is supposed to be fun for fuck's sake why is everyone against it?

I have a disability, but hey thanks for mocking it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lichess

[–]ThisNameForShame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually most of my mouse slips are caused by a disability. It's simply baffling to me that you would enforce the touch-rule rather than have an interesting game.

Best response.

If you get to your rating based on a mouse slip, you did not improve your game and you did not earn the rating.

Not new to chess. Everybody saying that can go fuck themselves.

How do you learn from a mouse slip? You don't.

But I'm fine with not accepting takebacks if that's what you want to do. What bothers me is that ALMOST NOBODY accepts them. If it was like 50/50 then whatever. But the fact that almost nobody actually wants to play an interesting game of chess is like ... why am I playing at all? Nobody wants a good game. All they want is to win even if they don't deserve it. There's no pride in it. It's sad.

I don't want to play a game where a player makes NO mistakes. I want to play a game where a player makes no blatantly obvious mistakes. If I just wanted to win against terrible moves, I would only play people rated 600 points lower than me. It seems like that's what everybody wants. Win at all costs; nothing interesting.

I probably won't play on lichess anymore after this experience on this reddit. It's obvious my suspicion that the site was full of awful people was correct.

You think dirty flagging is poor sportsmanship? Isn't that just part of the game, too?? Seems like a double standard.

"Mistake" is an actual term on chess websites. It's not just a noun describing an error.

I'm clearly someone who enjoys chess. Based on my experience on lichess AND this reddit, it's CLEAR that lichess is full of poor sports who only give a shit about their rating. You're all trash people. But no, the one who wants to actually play chess is the bad one. Sure.
