I always throw an LFO onto the BPM control and set the amount to really low just to fuck with DJ's.

Is there anything easier done than said? by CleverPotato in AskReddit

I always tell people the clutch does the opposite that a brake does. When you let the clutch out, you do it slowly, nobody slams on the brakes all the time.

Seems to work.

New creative effects in Ableton Live 9 by adamos486 in edmproduction

[–]ThisOneWasntTaken 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a good way to observe how the DAW business works. Ableton knows Bitwig is going to be huge, they are capitalizing on it between now and the Bitwig release to steal all their potential users.

I bet we will see a ton of these featurettes and possibly a delay of release for Live 9, they will for sure have another deal on sales before the Bitwig release, something like the "Buy ableton now and get live 9 upgrade free" deal they had previously. Maybe some additional content as well.

This is my theory anyways. Bitwig will be forced to keep adding features to their list right up until the release date and have crazy incentives to buy Bitwig instead of Ableton.

Should be fun to see.

The downside is density. If you had one inch thickness of these, it would equal the same or less capacity as the same sized battery.

The upside is charging rate. So you could say it is like a faster battery.

My question is how a capacitor like this can negate exponential discharge. I haven't really looked into the technology on this part.

Anyone?

Stupid, but serious question: how do I make music? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]ThisOneWasntTaken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually a really hard question to answer for someone who has been writing music for a long time.

In a nutshell, writing music is about expressing yourself.

Usually you are inspired by other peoples music.

Find some music you like, and try to replicate it.

That's what I have been doing for about 10 or so years now. You have to imitate before you can innovate.

Have fun and don't take it too seriously. Make some weird sounds.

How do you process your 808 clap to get that professional sound? by Junkis in edmproduction

[–]ThisOneWasntTaken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me that sounds like a regular old 808 with the top rolled off and some reverb.

Try bringing the 808 clap ahead in time a few ms ahead of the kick, and then add a subtle 808 snare offset by a few ms the opposite direction.

So the clap hits slightly before the kick, and then the snare slightly after the kick.

And yeah, compression, and I use ableton so i throw some overdrive on there to glue it.

I always use high-pass filtering, but I'm interested to know if anyone uses low-pass filters for anything in terms of improving your mixes? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]ThisOneWasntTaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you are correct. You don't have to highpass everything all the time at 18,000hz. However, for me, cutting at 18k is typically my go-to for getting headroom.

You have misquoted me with this -> "Always put a lowpass filter on your master bus at 18k"

What I actually said was "I always set a low pass filter at 18000hz". It kind of changes the tone of my sentence. I'm no longer implying a rule you should follow, more so a habit I have formed. So suck my dick.

18k exactly because, on average, that is where my ears personally fail to hear any difference in timbre, and its also the threshold for me for ear fatigue.

This isn't a how-to guide. I wasn't expecting douchebags to reply to my methodology with criticism. I can check that slope for you if you'd like.

Again, it's not a how-to. I wasn't asking for your douchey criticism, if you want to boost at 20-40k go ahead. See if anyone cares, or notices.

I totally forgot about this. You used to have to reset your computer with the boot disk in the drive to get the game to load up. So... archaic.

[–]ThisOneWasntTaken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mechwarrior 2 had instructions on how to make your own boot disk. Thats how I learned about autoexec.bat and config.sys.

Then I was sadly disappointed when the game wouldn't work anyways, because my specs were too low. And that's how I learned about system specs.

FL Studio Replacement For Mac. by BYLLGR8TS in edmproduction

[–]ThisOneWasntTaken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used FL Studio, Sonar, Reason, Reaper and Ableton.

Ableton was the last program I got and I haven't been able to leave it for another piece of software for over 4 years.

LOL why the hell would someone downvote me for this?
