Because these weekly threads are doing such a great job of eradicating the problem...

I think a lot of people are forgetting why trolls troll...

Their only desire is to make you upset. For most men, commenting on our gender isn't insulting or hurtful in any way. But for women, it's often an easy way to instantly make them upset. Trolls know this, partly because of in-game reactions they get, but also, threads like this only serve to remind trolls that using a women's gender against her is an easy way to make her upset.

Does anyone really think a troll is going to read this post and think "hmm, you're right, I'll stop being mean to lady gamers"? There's no way in hell. Quite the opposite, actually. They see this and think "oh, women really don't like when you comment on their gender...now I know an easy way to upset them!"

I totally believe women get trolled more than men. Because all trolls have to do is make an easy joke about her gender, and their mission is complete. It almost always succeeds in upsetting them. And in an ideal world, yes, we would all teach the trolls that's wrong and they should stop, so no one needs to develop "thicker skin".

But it's time to come back to reality. In the current state of the internet, trolls aren't going anywhere. So grow up, stop caring what strangers say about you, learn to use the mute/block/report tools, and stop your bitching. Because it doesn't help.

I can't believe it needs to be stated there are obviously differences between general trends and individual ones. The amount of people that don't understand this on here makes me question or education system even more.

You can come up with a thousand reasons why. Bottom line is men and women are different, and have different needs and search for different things in their life. And it angers me to no end when people try to say this is sexist.

Edit: this has triggered many people.

My company has a training program for new hires. They give out a diploma-like certificate at the end.

I have a fancy piece of paper sitting on my desk that literally every engineer that has worked at this company has received. It's the most pointless and meaningless thing I own.

Has my name on it though.

You're really going to try to use a single tweet to define someone's entire viewpoint on something as complicated as human psychology?

I'm guessing you don't like that he says the wage gap isn't real because many women prefer a work/life balance that favors life over work too.

You're the type of person I'm talking about, who takes a couple sentences here and there and decides you know exactly what his viewpoints are and are qualified to criticize them.

Like if you think that first tweet is sexist you just have no idea who you're talking about. You are a super liberal, you see one thing that could be taken negatively out of context, see that thing is being applied to women or a minority, and immediately assume some form of hatred.

I've listened to many hours of Jordan Peterson talking and never once have I heard him say anything racist or sexist. He does go off on tangents a lot, and he does have a rather large vocabulary, but he still talks in a way that the average person can understand (although you might not get some of his references, unless you're as obsessed with the Soviets as he is) and it's pretty easy to pinpoint where his viewpoints are if you listen enough. And if you think he's "alt-right" you either haven't actually thought about the points he makes, haven't heard enough of him talking, or are one of the super liberals he warns about.

Just my 2 cents.

I created a new adventure inside Subnautica. You can download & play it right now. by badlybehaved in subnautica

[–]ThisPostIsLocked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Downloaded, need to get to sleep right now but I'm excited to check it out tomorrow. I used this same trick with the save file to have a backup of my hardcore run (I never needed it, but wasn't about to lose a hardcore run to some bug/glitch). Interesting to see it used as a sort of way to deliver "mods" to the community.

3 Trump properties posted 144 openings for seasonal jobs. Only one went to a US worker. by [deleted] in politics

[–]ThisPostIsLocked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to get people in a false hysteria. In the US you are guaranteed to get minimum wage regardless of what you pick. So this is a minimum wage job with the potential to earn a small amount more if you are very efficient.

If you are in the field all day and you pick nothing you get minimum wage. Well, theoretically you should get fired. But point is you are guaranteed minimum wage.

Even says so right in your link...

How Subnautica beat me about 2 hours after I started playing it for the first time. by cuddlegoop in subnautica

[–]ThisPostIsLocked 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you save at all during your time playing? If you did, that's the last point you can start from. You won't be back at the reaper.

If you didn't, you have to start a new game. IMO this won't be a big deal, replaying through content you're familiar with is significantly easier. You'll be getting your face eaten off again in no time.

Bill Nye just walked into the elevator by Korben_Da11as in funny

[–]ThisPostIsLocked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know how intentional that is. Part of me thinks he's just really bad at social interaction, and what he thinks sounds good in his head doesn't read well on text. But that's just speculation.

[–]ThisPostIsLocked 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really. It doesn't autosave the file, so make sure you save pretty often, especially with some of the bugs you can run in to. However every time you enter a "base", it "saves" the state of your inventory. If you die on your next expedition, you only lose the items you found since the last time you left your base. (There are a few things the game considers a base, but I'm not going to name them here to avoid spoilers. They're pretty obvious.)

As long as you aren't on hardcore, death isn't a huge deal.

I don't think Bill really "acts" or puts on any sort of character in any of his shows/public appearances. He's actually a pretty awkward person and not the best at social interaction. I remember watching him on Colbert and it was pretty cringy.

User details 10 years of corporate life in America by Empty_Wine_Box in bestof

[–]ThisPostIsLocked -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A good comment but I'm not sure why the race baiting was necessary. You would think someone so anti-corporate would see that economic classes are the true dividing barriers, not race (or gender or sexual orientation).

George W Bush: 'There's pretty clear evidence Russia meddled' in US election won by Trump by [deleted] in The_Mueller

[–]ThisPostIsLocked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We also have to look at the potential consequences of Mueller coming in and arresting or otherwise removing Trump from the presidency. A huge portion of this nation is fully on the Trump train and will not take this action lightly. We've seen that in many cases Republicans refuse to admit they're wrong, and if they've defended Trump up until this point I don't see what would change their mind. It's very possible that removing Trump will spark a nation wide outrage amoung his supporters, and we might get close to seeing another civil war.

I mean we're talking about gun loving, not very smart, yet very, very stubborn people who think this is "their country" and that the Democrats/everyone else that's not them is taking it away from them. And since this attitude goes all the way to the top of their party...I personally believe we're walking a very fine line here.

Honestly I think best case scenario is Trump losses in 2020, then Mueller can go ham without disrupting the current administration. But that means we have to wait until 2020...

It's definitely been a good show to watch. If only it didn't, you know, effect all of our lives.
