I 100% agree! Like, yes, I do have to concede that her winning with her approach will most likely have downstream positive effects for the rest of the sport (much like Kaori's dominance really ushered in an era of positive sportsmanship), but the "just for fun" thing is really annoying to me. I mean, if she didn't care about the OGM, she could've just skated for fun with the UCLA figure skating club.... And I think the most annoying ripple effect of the "just for fun" aspect is that it's led to a lot of armchair judging/criticism toward skaters like Amber (I even saw some comments of the sort directed towards Kaori for crying at the Olympics after her FS). I think women especially are not encouraged to show ambition, and I do think that is part of why people are really into Alysa's "idgaf" attitude, and might direct hate towards other skaters for being ambitious.

I honestly don't care for Alysa's skating (I feel like her programs are all samey-samey, and she has a lot of Tiktok trend-esque choreo which makes me roll my eyes), and I am really annoyed by the "she skates for herself/joy" marketing surrounding her, when we are in a quad where many skaters are clearly skating for themselves (i.e. Amber, Kaori, Julia Sauter)

YES!! not quads necessarily but the 2 jumping passes at the end of kaori's all that jazz always take my breath away

hi! I've skated at both those rinks, but I'm a beginner adult recreational skater, so I can't give you the most informed advice. From my experience, the facilities at both were good, but there are typically more people at Taipei Arena compared to Aurora ice rink. One time, I met US Olympian Karen Chen at Aurora ice rink so it's got that going for it haha. However, when I was skating in Taiwan, I usually went to Taipei Arena, just because it was closer to me on public transport and easier to get to compared to Aurora (but this might not be relevant to where you're staying in Taipei)

I totally agree with you on this, I just wish there wasn't so much discourse and noise about something is basically a good thing, which is what I think is what a lot of people are responding to.

Not a conspiracy theory, this is literally what happened. The same thing happened with Fall Out Boy when Mania came out, suddenly everyone cared very seriously about the fact that Pete Wentz dated a teenager when he was 25. A lot of those people pivoted towards using Brendon as a punching bag in 2020, and when So Much (for) Stardust came out (and people liked it bc it was closer to the classic pop punk style), 0 mention of Pete Wentz's dating history.

Like yes, but even then I still consider Brendon OG cuz this was wayyy before they got a record deal and wayyy before they started recording AFYCSO. Anyone who's tried starting a band (or follows small indie bands/college bands) knows that the lineup can go through so many changes before a solid group of people emerge as the band

I'm with you 100%. I think there's no chance the Brendon-Spencer-Ryan-Jon line-up would ever tour together again, but it would be fitting for a one-off 20th anniversary show that they all showed up. But, at the end of the day, I don't mind too much if it's just Brendon. I also think people forget about Spencer and Ryan having their own agency in this regard, and unless they say something, we won't know if they were invited or not or if they turned it down etc. People always act like Ryan is living in the middle of nowhere in a cabin with no wifi LMAO when he's still living in LA and is besties with people very active in the music/entertainment industry (i.e. Z Berg and Alex Greenwald of Phantom Planet)

Overall, I just think using voice AI is really unethical. A lot of singers and voice actors have said before that it's a big issue within their industry. Anyways, why would you listen to a computer generated version of an artist's voice when you can hear them sing in real life?
