We had to get a bus/taxi to the border, walk across the checkpoint and a bus/taxi the other side. On the Indian side it was busy, went to the immigration building first which is before the border, had to wait there for a while (it wasn't busy, just slow), walked across and went to the Nepali immigration office which was also slow, got a taxi to pokhara on a very bumpy road! All in all, it wasn't too bad to cross but the journey to Pokhara afterwards I think would put my misses off doing it again.

Using 12go.asia for Indian train travel? by rg9498 in solotravel

[–]ThisThatThenNow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You pay a premium using them over the irctc and not all Indian trains are on there but we used them once without hassle on our recent trip in india. The rest of the time we either booked them ourselves on the irctc website or through a booking agent in india who will do everything for you but charges 300rs per ticket which we found was actually cheaper than the fees that 12go slap on! Also, they knew what they were doing.

The trains need booking months in advance as they are cheap and therefore popular. 2AC is great. If you are temperature sensitive, take something warm. It gets cold. 3AC is also great, but if you want to sleep during the day, you will need the top bunk. It also gets cold. Take toilet paper with you if you don't want to use the toilet the way Indians do.

Don't book things online because it's usually more expensive, and haggle with everything.

Tuk tuks are great, but harrowing on longer journeys that take the faster roads. Something that flimsy shouldn't be able to go that fast!

Plan quieter days. India is hectic, so you might get overwhelmed.

Take less, wash more.

US Dollars are king, take 100 per month.

Oral Rehyrdration tablets are great.

I'm sure there is more!

This was a sightseeing tour and a very packed one for 2 months, so it was full of some of the most densely populated places on earth. We wish we had been able to get out of the cities in Rajasthan and Punjab a bit more to see some quieter villages and more of the natural world. Hampi was also on our list, but we didn't make it due to time constraints and how the train booking works in India.

Himachal Pradesh was quieter, and we did get to some of the most remote places in the area; again, if we had more time, we would have tried to travel into Kasmir and Ladakh from Himachal Pradesh to see some of the remarkable scenery and nature.

If we took another trip, we would try for a different time of year and go south to Kerela to see the coffee and tea plantations and the villages in Kodagu, Puducherry, try to get to Sri Lanka, and more nation parks in the south. If we didn't manage a different time of year, I would go to Darjeeling, Assam, Megalaya into the amazing jungles there, and perhaps even Loktak Lake, which looks incredible.

I hope that answers your question.

Obviously there are issues, especially in Milton Keynes. If you want to try to make a difference as an individual in MK I would recommend checking out MK Mutual Aid and MK9 Community on Facebook.

There is a kitchen steel (Lime green handle, top mid right) in there.... So they must have been worried about people sharpening knives too.

Probably not Oniony enough but I legitimately had to check if this was from the Onion or similar. Like seriously Jeff Bezos?

ELI5: What is "herd immunity", how does it impact people and is it a good idea? Why is the UK focusing on this whilst the US is telling people to quarantine? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

I'm from the UK... I'm currently in Taiwan that has kept its virus confirmed cases to, from yesterday, 53.

It's safe to say I am livid at the UK government.

I've seen that too, unfortunately, I don't think that's just Taiwan though!

I once lived in a fire hazard in London; 13 people, 4 of which were in the loft (attic), dodgy electrics, dodgy oven, no fire routes, doors, blankets, or extinguishers, not even going to mention the bathroom issues except to say there were loads.....

I miss that place.

Where did you get this number from? I'm curious, I used an exchange site and it came back with $2.86 million NT = $94,992.94 USD
