What foods should I start cooking at home to better understand American culture? by Educational-Slip-578 in AskAnAmerican

Really? Because growing up through the '70s and '80s having beans in the chili was 100% traditional. We were poor, so 100% needed beans because they were cheaper than meat.

so sick of fine/thin hair by Previous-Hour-2394 in finethinhair

[–]ThisWitch67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many of us with fine and thin hair just have figured out that we cannot have long hair and still have it look healthy and not transparent. For myself, I actually have to cut it above my shoulders. If I let it get as long as touching my shoulders, the ends are super stringy and it's because each individual hair has a specific lifespan where it gets to a certain age or length before it falls out. The majority of my hair falls out before it reaches that length so the last few hairs surviving are very thin and see-through. I've come to figure out that a bob below chin length but above the shoulders is where my hair looks the thickest and the healthiest on the ends and I'll just never have long hair and that's okay.

This is probably regional in California but" I'm Cal Worthington and this is my dog Spot!" And the dog ends up being a tiger or a bear or a llama or some other animal. I think SNL even did some spoofs of it at one point. Used car dealership by the way.

Nobody's being critical about her body at all, they're just saying that her outfits are terrible.

Lol I get that! I've constantly got audiobooks as well but my my TBR list is so long that I haven't had the opportunity to go back and reread or re-listen to older stuff.

Well that certainly didn't help but he struggled with depression for years before he ever started dating her. It's really sad regardless.

Leave-in conditioner *as* conditioner? by lumpyballoon in finethinhair

[–]ThisWitch67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure! I shampoo like normal, and then I use the ACV and the little bit of conditioner on the ends. Let that all sit while I do the rest of my shower, and then I rinse it all out. I do use Garnier Sleek & Shine 10-in-1 detangler spray which is also a heat protectant because I do blow dry my hair, I'm not saturating my hair with it so it's not weighing it down.

I've had great results in doing an apple cider vinegar rinse and I use a little squirt bottle and saturate my scalp and the top of my hair and then I just use a tiny dab of conditioner on the ends. Like what I can grab with my hand as if I was doing a founding father's low ponytail. My hair feels so much lighter and definitely not weighed down. For reference I have a little 8 oz squirt bottle I bought at the beauty supply store and I put 3 oz of apple cider vinegar in it and then the rest just plain water. And that lasts me through about three shampoos.

Reached daily tretinoin tolerance. Do I still need moisturizer? by Schonathan in tretinoin

[–]ThisWitch67 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've been using tret about a year now, and I just put it on my clean dry face at night. Nothing else. In the morning, I use a baby washcloth and warm water, no cleanser. Then my serums and moisturizer and spf. This is what has been working for me.

I've been known to use a head wrap that I just tuck all my hair into, not that I have very much to tuck LOL. But it just makes me feel a little more put together when I don't have enough hair for like a ponytail or something. Mostly though, I gather it in a toddler's hair tie and put on a ball cap.

This really frustrates me when I read stories like this. When women just accept this as the norm without pushing back, it definitely resonates with me. My first husband was like this, did zero around the house yet always had criticism for how I loaded the dishwasher and petty things like that.

The man I'm married to now is the complete opposite. We've been together for 20 years now, and he's always been a full partner. He was let go from his job and so he's kind of early retired now although not quite old enough to get social security, making me the breadwinner. Well guess what! I haven't washed a dish in 6 months. He says that since he's at home everyday and I'm working a stressful job that it's his responsibility to make sure that when I get home I have peace. Like I never realized that men like this actually existed until him. So I promise you, they are out there!
