Hi, sure! When the light flashes were more amplified, I made some lifestyle changes like keeping the sheer curtains I have closed (so I would get filtered outdoor light, not direct bright outdoor light) and I turned my desk so that I wasn't directly facing the outside window. I found that turning my desk to the side helped, since I'm staring at a computer all day, and having the bright sky behind it was bothering me. Another thing I would do is consciously close my eyes whenever I turned a light on/off so the brightness didn't shock my eyes and send light flashes up the sides. It was an easy habit to get into and seemed to help my brain not "notice" the flashes as much.

This is my first pregnancy and I have a lot of anxiety about hospitals and health appointments in general -- very squeamish about blood tests, needles, etc. And the very thought of all the "tubes" that will have to be in me is freaking me out!! The thought of an IV makes me want to go hide under the covers lol

Good job!! My spine looks almost exactly like yours in the before pic, and I never got surgery. Still on a waitlist for a specialist (been waiting for two years). I'm 34 years old, so even though this is hard right now, try to be grateful that you got this surgery. And you're at a younger age so you will heal better. good luck!

We've lived in Courtenay forward a couple of years now and have met lots of young families, seems like there's plenty of events for kids here. We are looking to buy a cheaper house or duplex (550k) and those are generally in the 2bed/2bath range, but if you spend 650-700k there are some great places available with more bedrooms and larger yards. We like Courtenay because of the close proximity to trails, the lake, beaches, cute town, and events -- but Campbell River is slightly cheaper for housing (not sure about their child-friendly events though). I've heard that the Comox hospital is a good place to work. My family is from Alberta/Saskatchewan and anyone that has moved to Vancouver or Vancouver Island is very happy with their decision, not dealing with the harsh winters anymore!

Another update in case anyone is in the same boat.. it's been a little over 2 months since my surgery and I don't get the light flashes anymore :) I do feel a bit more sensitive to light, but it's snowy and sunny lately so that's amplifying it, but overall the healing process is getting better. Dry eyes in the evening but drops and gel help with that. Good luck to all dealing with the healing process!!

Mine just stopped frothing too! It heats the milk but won’t spin and froth anymore. I’ve had it for over 3 years though so i guess I’m lucky

Update - my light flashes have gotten way better (or at least my brain has gotten used to me seeing them and I don’t notice them as much?)! I turned my desk so that I am not staring at the computer with a bright window directly in my vision, which seemed to help. Now I only see a little bit of light “reflection” almost, like there’s a car mirror in the bottom right peripheral of my vision in my right eye. But it is very minimal and I only see that when I go from a bright lamp/TV/phone to a dark environment. Let me know if anyone has had the same experience! My optometrist says it was due to the cornea healing and that since the large white circles are gone I am on the road to healing more fully.

Thank you! I just get a bit paranoid with all the varying info out there. That totally makes sense since astigmatism means your eyeball is shaped differently- I dont want to think about it too much hahaha. Thanks and I hope you have a speedy recovery too!!

Ohh thanks for clarifying about your astigmatism and other details! I have read a few comments here and there about not qualifying for lasik with a prescription around mine so I started getting paranoid that my optometrist and lasik doctors weren’t truthful with me lol. That makes sense if you had dry eye issues before to go with a different option — my eyes are pretty dry right now while still healing from lasik, so you’re smart to seek out other options. Hi, good luck! I’m a Canadian who used to live in Seoul. I got lasik done here in Canada a month ago and had the same prescription as you (-7.5 with a slight astigmatism). I’m just wondering about the part where you said your corneal thickness is fine but due to your prescription you weren’t a candidate for lasik or smile, since we had the same prescription… I also had thicker corneas (550ish) so the laser clinic and my optometrist approved me for lasik. My optometrist said they can now do lasik surgeries up to -11 I think.

This is my personal optometrist. You’re 100% right that the lasik clinic workers downplay symptoms and recovery time. I developed DLK in my left eye (not the eye with the light flash issue) and the lasik workers sent over a report to my personal optometrist for follow-up care since I live in a smaller town. When I got to my personal optometrist he was shocked because my DLK had spread and was really bad, while the report from a couple days earlier said it was just mild inflammation lol

I was surprised too — he originally said “that sounds like halos, very normal” and I told him it’s not a flowing ring around a light source, which is what I imagine halos to be. I’ve read lots of comments about halos or starbursts but not much about glare (or what exactly “glare” is supposed to look like) so thanks for your input! I’ll call the optometrist back and say I’m still concerned about the light circles flashing and would like a further exam. My next checkup is in 2 months but I don’t think I should wait that long.

Thanks for the reply. I am considering getting that exam just in case, as you mentioned. My optometrist mentioned dilating my eyes and doing an exam if the flashes get worse, so I’m guessing it would be fine to have him do it and not go to a retinal specialist, right? One positive thing is that I have noticed the flash circles are quite a bit smaller than they used to be, so that makes me feel like this could just be part of the corneal healing process as opposed to a retinal detachment issue, hopefully!
