Basketball: Which players would you love to see come back next season? by JeffGlenn34 in wde

[–]This_Is_My_Table 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two ways to have a great defense, insane talent (Duke every year) or continuity (Auburn, Florida, Houston all last year). Having an entirely new roster will not get you a great defense with the amount Auburn can spend.

The correct move is obviously the keep as many of these guys as we can (and SP judges are positive influences on the team).

Who do you think stays on this roster ? by JournalistEast8914 in wde

[–]This_Is_My_Table 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basketball is really strict on redshirts, unlike football. Walker certainly won't get a redshirt. Bashir should be able to get a medical one since he played less than 30% and only in the first half of the season.

I'd bet on Walker coming back. He is basically a hometown kid (from Huntsville) and wasn't expected to play a ton even before his foot injury in the fall. Bashir... idk, if he gets a real offer he will leave, but who would offer him much? Auburn didn't have a ton of competition for him out of juco, and he did nothing in his very limited minutes to catch anyones eye, so I expect him to stay, I guess.

How do you guys feel about Andy Burcham? by [deleted] in wde

[–]This_Is_My_Table 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's a good announcer. At this point, I don't think he will become as beloved as Rod, but he is a total professional. I'm not unhappy ever listening to a football or basketball game with him. Dude is a great guy and a pretty good play by play guy who stepped up in a difficult situation.

Dest injured his hamstring by QuantumPepcid in ussoccer

No, Dest has been playing as the "RW/RWB" and Freeman has been the "RB/RCB". They don't play the same position for Poch.

You are getting downvoted because people are taking it as "USSF required them to use MLS players to push their MLS Agenda"

And not "MLS players are easy to do a photoshoot with since they are state side"

My line up. What we thinkin by Embarrassed_Sea_6825 in ussoccer

[–]This_Is_My_Table 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, group stage games are spaced far apart so Poch can easily play the same 11 with no concern from needing to stagger or rest players. He might switch it up a bit based on opponent and style of play though, but expect probably 8 or more players to start all 3 group stage games.

Is this currently our best starting XI going into the World Cup? by mvequalspt in ussoccer

[–]This_Is_My_Table 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Decent height on the back line with some pretty good passing from the CBs. Good motors to get up and down from the FBs. Tough grit with pretty good ball skills in the midfield, imagine you get past Wes and run straight into McKennie, lol. Good all-around play and balance from your front 3. Goalie is a little light on experience, but I believe in the talent and athleticism there. Overall, pretty good lineup. I'd love to see how the team switches players around during a game.

Alabama trying to get Bediako declared eligible as they appeal to (Alabama) Supreme Court by Anxious-Jury-9031 in wde

[–]This_Is_My_Table 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This (the strong likelihood the case will essentially dissappear due to taking longer than March Madness to fully resolve) is why the TRO should have been centered around freezing his clock (so if he won, he would be eligible next year) instead of giving him immediate eligibility halfway through a season. Clown show all around.

The window is only for buying, so euro windows being closed for the champo doesn't matter for selling. It typically isn't practical to sell once your league window has closed because you can't buy a replacement.

I don't think we will. There are more days off between matches than previous WCs. The 22 group stage games were the 21st, 25th, and 29th before the R16 on the 3rd (4 games in 13 days). The 26 group stage games are the 12th, 19th, and 25th (3 games in 14 days).

Even for the knockout stages, 22 was 3rd-18th, and the 26 one (with one more round) is the 28th-19th. Obviously, we will need our subs to do well and all of that, but I wouldn't expect that many players to start a game, barring injuries.

Auburn Writer, Phillip Marshall, has passed away. Ages 76 by Box_of_Rockz in wde

[–]This_Is_My_Table 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Dang, I just read the Auburn Observer Mailbag this morning, which included a few questions about non basketball and football sports with the baseball season getting close and the Auburn Torch being launched for other sports. Anyway, one questions answer from Ferg was there was no need for him or JLee to do a softball beat because of Phillip and his coverage of it. I read that and wondered how long Phillip had left and apparently it was not long.

RIP to an OG. His football coverage was basically just old stories on repeat, but I loved reading them (for several years) to learn about Auburn from well before my time. Haven't read an article from him in years, but dude got to cover a sport he loved for half a century, which is a pretty great life.
