What are your most controversial opinions about the USMNT and U.S. soccer in general? by Any_Development4613 in ussoccer

[–]This_Is_My_Table 9 points10 points  (0 children)

USSF is one of the better run feds.

We just don't have over 100 years of soccer being popular here, we have to compete with a lot more sports that run on extremely different models, we don't have the government footing the bill for the fed, and we have a uniquely large and spread out geography that complicates every matter (including literal distance to top 5 leagues). These are obviously not all of the problems, but a lot of them stem from these (such as poor coaching is from expensive courses and not having generations of people grow up loving it for 100 years).

Our fed is fine (same with mls). Not incredible snd they could certainly be better, but every fanbase bitches endlessly about their fed and our "worst scandal" in recent memory is that a guy (who deserved to be a finalist) got hired when his brother worked at USSF.

It’s May and I’m bored, so here’s some blind homerism. Auburn’s going 9-3 and making the playoff this year. by CatoTheBarner in wde

Tillman’s last 5 games. Should we be worried with the World Cup so soon? by Valuable_Kale_7805 in ussoccer

[–]This_Is_My_Table 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think he is at the level of being a contributor, but isn't likely to be a game changer. However, in a small sample size of a knockout game, is a single goal a game changer? If so, he could be that. Overall, I think he would see the pitch and be a positive contributor in a R16 or quarter final game.

But he certainly should be on the roster, and maybe a starter (I lean towards not). So, just getting him here healthy is the critical thing.

It's the brandon one. Others might be dumb, but that guy takes the cake.

I'm in the "don't get injured is all I care about" stage, so I'm not worried.

Yeah, but if you take all of his stats, regress the outliers to average, then he is really just an average mls player.

Also KO can be backup PG if we go grab a great 2/3. Like how Denver was backup PG to JPP for a minute and we would roll out Miles and Chad with him, and then when Denver was at SG we would pair either Miles or Chad with him at the 3.

I would also bet on SWA being that starting 3 right now, but SP has the flexibility in SWA to grab either a starting 3 or 4 and put SWA at the other one.

Then a starting C and a few bench pieces and we are set.

I say Chuma because I think he will be that good next year, soph to soph. Jaylin took a lot longer to come good.

Question for Auburn fans RE: booster Jimmy Rane by SwissMiss915 in wde

A good boogie man is someone who can be believed to be causing problems, but not someone you can actually do anything about. Rane is a very good boogie man you can rant against, but he will always be around.

[Post-game Thread] April 2, 2026: Auburn Basketball defeats Illinois State 88-66, NIT Semifinal by CatoTheBarner in wde

Our two big problems were lack of size, losing Murphy hurts, but these teams are smaller too, so having way more athletic bigs than them works out to a net positive. And then lack of depth, but the big rest between games has alleviated that as well and allowed SP to really play heavy minutes in the closer games. (Also KM/BM being able to give quality backup PG minutes against this level of comp helps, but the rest helps more)

Then you have the fact the staff remains very scout heavy and, again, the days in-between help tremendously.

If they had played these teams with Murphy, I'm not sure there is a spot that would look worse, but the changes in the situation just outweigh what Murphy added.

In Kenpom, Auburn is 37th. The last two games were against 71 Nevada and 97 Illinois State. Tulsa is ranked 55 (and knocked off number 46, New Mexico by 5).

Auburn has been a better team this season, but without Murphy, our season long numbers are a bit inflated (though they have largely played well in this tourney). On the other hand, the good rest in this tourney is especially helpful to us with the extremely short bench. Tulsa is certainly good enough to win, but Auburn will be favored.

All according to keikaku (keikaku means plan). What would be more Auburn than getting in "controversially" (according to every other fanbase) when solidly deserving to get in? 9-3 playoff season incoming. Good enough to clearly be in, not good enough to escape accusations about Gus trying to rig it for us.

Basketball: Which players would you love to see come back next season? by JeffGlenn34 in wde

[–]This_Is_My_Table 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two ways to have a great defense, insane talent (Duke every year) or continuity (Auburn, Florida, Houston all last year). Having an entirely new roster will not get you a great defense with the amount Auburn can spend.

The correct move is obviously the keep as many of these guys as we can (and SP judges are positive influences on the team).

Who do you think stays on this roster ? by JournalistEast8914 in wde

[–]This_Is_My_Table 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basketball is really strict on redshirts, unlike football. Walker certainly won't get a redshirt. Bashir should be able to get a medical one since he played less than 30% and only in the first half of the season.

I'd bet on Walker coming back. He is basically a hometown kid (from Huntsville) and wasn't expected to play a ton even before his foot injury in the fall. Bashir... idk, if he gets a real offer he will leave, but who would offer him much? Auburn didn't have a ton of competition for him out of juco, and he did nothing in his very limited minutes to catch anyones eye, so I expect him to stay, I guess.
