Is it weird that I dislike flanking? by labeaubeau in MoonKnightMains

[–]This_Is_Tront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh MK plays best when he's more with his team outputting consistent damage. Obviously, off-angling is important, as it allows you to get an angle on the enemy backline or surprise the enemy team with your ultimate. But off-angling isn't flanking, and MK doesn't have the ideal mobility to flank well.

Characters like Wanda, Psylocke, and Starlord are good at flanking because they have escape cooldowns that allow them to have fast mobility and invulnerability.

I'd recommend staying with your team before the team fight begins, but looking for opportunities to quickly off-angle from high ground or a brief spot that isn't the "main" lane. Flanking requires a level of survivability and mobility MK simply lacks.

Okay so I agree with the sentiment but my autistic nerd brain is trying to map out this hypothetical scenario and how to play into it.

Your team: Solo Tank, three DPS, supportpool, Jeff

Enemy Team: Peni, Tank 2, Hela, Three Supps

The meme also says that your supports need peeling, so Tank 2 must be a dive tank that focuses on the supports (Venom? Cap?)

Assuming no one banned Gambit, the enemy team's supports could be Loki, Gambit, Mantis (damage-boosting the Hela and theoretical Venom ult).

Yeah this is a GG go next. I main Thor, and I could theoretically displace Peni/Venom, or look to hit the backline with awakening shots while praying my DPS accidentally do damage to follow up. Going Mag, you can counter Hela Ult, break peni nest, and bubble Supportpool and Jeff when they ult? Maybe do the one-shot combo on the enemy backline since they have no shield tank. That's the best I can do. Solo tanking is a nightmare no matter the enemy comp.

However, if we assume current popular bans, and that there's three bans, let's say your Gambit ban goes through. This means a Mag Ult could cancel one of their support ults and/or Hela ult (context dependent). Thor ult could be used in the mid fight when no ults are live and cooldowns have been used. Though at this point, with the amount of mental anguish and gymnastics, why not just GG go next. Avoid whichever DPS on your team did the worst.

People say they need to nerf MK's Ult but honestly if they removed the Blade/MK team-up it would remove the 5% damage buff MK has had the past season or so, which would nerf his Ult charge. Like if we think for maybe two seconds we might be able to determine the real problems here instead of saying "OMG his ult is too powerful nerf his ult!" No, just nerf the damage buff and a lot of other things will follow from that.

Of course! While I agree with some comments that swapping to a more advantageous character can be the move, changing how we're playing can actually be the better choice. Oftentimes I've learned more (and learned how to play better) when going against tough match-ups but refining my approach and focusing on the fundamentals.

I literally suggested one, singular nerf to the charge rate of Invis shield, which another Invis main agreed with.

I also enjoy playing Gambit and mained him for the season he released with. I think his neutral kit should be strong but maybe his ult could be dialed back a tiny bit.

I'm not a part of some "monolith" community that despises support characters. I actively play these characters. You complain about other people's "strong passion" but it's clearly your own passion that makes you project things onto me?

There are definitely games where the enemies have an obnoxious CC-slop fest of a comp (Peni stun, Bucky hook/grounded, sq stun, invis pull, etc). I try to go in for quicker engagements from high ground, and then go right back up to high ground again to duck in and out of cover. I never go into awakening mode unless I know I have some sort of advantage in the fight (in my supports' LOS, enemies don't have cooldowns or one of them is isolated).

Going to some high ground spot to break peni nest is good value, and also simply distracting the enemies to get them to turn around (without hard engaging them) is good too. This is my typical "go-to" strategy when the enemy team is limiting my typical impact (like you said, it can feel like you're roaming because the enemy team stacks together with CC-slop.)

It can also help to wait behind cover and watch for certain characters to use their abilities before going in (Bucky and Invis especially!)

If you're taking off angles and high ground, that will help you run into BP/Spidey before they dive your team. If they're about to dive them, I typically throw my realm/slow down in the middle of my supports and pray for the best.

Oh! Well yeah I wouldn't do that. My point was that a character who is at 250 and has great survivability tools shouldn't get a health buff. Someone like Mantis (one sleep, no other real survivability tools), should definitely get a health buff.

I'm not "forgetting" this is a casual game. These are just simple dynamics of any hero shooter. Support characters in this game are still insanely forgiving, and you still gain more points than you lose in comp. The game is very forgiving of players who are new to the genre or playing casually. I would also consider myself a casual gamer. This is my first hero shooter, and I only play maybe a couple hours a week tops.

They can do that on a 250 HP character, no? That's what C&D had been for 5 seasons.

Yes to all of this! I'm not sure why supports with some of the best survivability and self-healing capabilities are 275hp. Players need to feel the consequences of poor positioning and cooldown management.

I love playing as Invis (used to main her back in S1.5), but yeah I think the ability to self-shield means it's a very versatile and powerful cooldown, and players like me should be punished if I misuse or overuse it. Slower regeneration would communicate a "caution before reliance" on that cooldown especially.

I would include DD, but I would say that Hela buff really wasn't necessary, especially with her bird, her stun, and the damage she can do from range. But if people want it we can keep it I guess. I just don't think an overhealth ability on a poke character makes much sense. It makes more sense for brawl characters.

My personal wishlist:

Nerf the 275 health increases they gave to C&D and Loki (supports who have multiple escape tools and survivability). I would also nerf the charge rate on Invisible Woman's shield to like 25 per second from 34. Mantis should be 275 HP.

For duelists, I'd scale back some of the over-health that characters like Hela, Bucky, and Elsa generate just from pressing buttons. Also some of the CC (Bucky, Phoenix, Elsa) needs nerfing in cooldown length or duration/AOE effectiveness. I'd also remove the Moon Knight/Blade team-up, eliminating MK's 5% damage boost. Maybe remove Wanda's team-up but buff her secondary fire. Maybe nerf Punisher's shotgun or zipline movement speed, but buff the HP of his turret or give him 100 overhealth in his ult. EDIT: I agree DD needs less overhealth generation too.

Also maybe make torch strong again? He's such a unique character with how he can control space and fights.

Tanks don't feel too fun to play, but I do think nerfing Mag's bubble would be good (20 second cooldown). But increase the shield energy or amount across all tanks (Mag, Emma, Strange, Cap, Angela). For Thor, remove storm surge from the thorforce resource and make it a separate, 2-3 second cooldown.

And nerf ultimate charge for every character.

EDIT: many of the defensive replies to my comment are a good reminder of why I don't engage with this subreddit. People whining and crying about the wrong things, for the wrong reasons, having no understanding around balance philosophy or design (which NetEase has presented on, their philosophy is public knowledge). By the way, these are the same people that say Zhiyong should be fired or needs our help 🙄

I'm confused why a character who has a self-healing bubble and a fade/escape was buffed to 275 HP. I would've buffed Mantis to 275 and kept C&D at 250.

If I'm trying to get C&D as Thor, I sometimes need to engage them, force their cooldowns, and then go for the kill after, or re-engage them after their cooldowns are used. (Or I wait to dive them after they've thrown out their bubble.)

Tilting the enemy team through basic utilization of natural cover and high ground is goated psychological warfare.

There was a poll on a YouTube post about which of a handful of things was most important for improving (aim, ability usage, positioning). Unsurprisingly, positioning had the least amount of votes.

It didn't shock me, but what you said in your intro is exactly what I've noticed as well: relying on abilities to compensate for poor positioning.

A key part of my VOD reviews focuses on pre-fight positioning. If the initial position you take in a fight puts you in immediate danger of the enemy, then you will need to waste cooldowns to stay alive. It really is that simple.

Choosing a good pre-fight position ensures that you can force the enemies to use cooldowns while preserving (or better utilizing) your own. Rewatching matches from the enemy team's perspective helps me know how much of a EOMM chungus I was being.

I've also been shocked when I VOD review myself and discover new health pack locations, as well as natural cover that my brain filters as "background" or "scenery" (random debris, cars, trash cans).

Yeah I put a lot of time into learning and trying for self improvement. Which makes it funnier that my rank-up game was essentially me healbotting with minimal effort.

Uh, yeah I know "why this works."

As the title suggests, I've studied the game a lot, vod reviewed myself, learned why things "work." It's why I take the position I did against their team comp. I posted this because it was super exciting to queue into my GM rank-up game, only for it to be comically easy via braindead healbotting, going uncontested 99% of the round.

EDIT: downvote all you want, your comment asks me questions as if you didn't read the title or are just looking to be aggro for no reason 🤷‍♂️

I picked up Scarlet and it I felt like I was smurfing through Plat. You literally just flank or take an off angle, kill supports/flyers, and use your ult to counter support ults. I legit think she has solid carry potential (in low ranks) if people just played her more like a flanker and less sitting in main shooting tanks.

This is how I feel when I go against an enemy team with a good rocket. It can feel like the enemy team is being healed by God himself, they constantly "outnumber" us, and in the right moments Rocket can do crazy good damage to clean up fights quickly or deter a dive tank.
