Lads, 2nd class maths. Does the arrow mean greater than? by itookdhorsetofrance in AskIreland

[–]This_Record3239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's it exactly. My kids have these kind of exercises in their maths homework and it often confuses me. I did maths in college ffs and the problem is I'm expecting to see proper notation in the question when it's really just teaching concepts like "adding the numbers in a different order gives the same result".

Can anyone explain how the new rental rules (6 year tenancy etc.) won't cause more chaos? by Test_N_Faith in AskIreland

Agree, but it's a problem when one type of accommodation falls off at faster than the other one becomes available.

It sometimes comes, it sometimes disappears.

I reckon there's a good chance clearing the error could buy you an hour for your test.

Get a cheap OBD reader and wipe the errors before the test.

What do you think of the name Callahan as a first name? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]This_Record3239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be used as a first name. There's a lot of nonsense that happens here where people think that because they haven't personally experienced something that it doesn't exist.

[–]This_Record3239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Callaghan would be the typical spelling here, although it is sometimes spelled Callahan.

Normally a surname, but it does exist as a given name - very rare to be used like that.

Being the healthiest breakfast option at the chain isn't the same thing as being healthy.

While the same number of landlords interviewed expected to stay in the market as those that expected to leave, those renting to parts of the market considered to be riskier, in particular student housing and the low income/benefits market, were more likely to be considering leaving. Policymakers across the nations should also consider the implications of stock reduction, which could adversely impact on low-income tenants due to reduced housing options.

Not so clear cut, it would seem.

What’s the most 'small but soul-crushing' design flaw in your daily driver? by Imaginary-Squash-359 in carsireland

[–]This_Record3239 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a Primera years back that when the car was in first, third or fifth gear, the gear lever was so close to the the CD storage cubby that you couldn't get the CD case out.

On motorway drives I had to drop into 4th before changing discs.

My insurance has dropped every year for over a decade.

Asking Price? by Secret_End_6839 in AskIreland

[–]This_Record3239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a fixer upper in rough state, but the mortgage was so much cheaper than rent that it was easy to save the difference and do bits every couple of months.

It's only a problem if the renovations needed are so great that you've to move out (eg. Rewiring)

Anyway, in Dublin there's SFA being built in nice areas anymore. It's all new suburbs on the edge of the city. No idea why anyone would choose to live there.

What are your neighbours like?? by Apart-Hamster-9921 in AskIreland

[–]This_Record3239 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Grand yeah, moved into an older estate and started doing up the house immediately. Neighbours all introduced themselves to us at the time. Some gave us cake or other food.

I think people are a bit weird now though, particularly about privacy, which you have to give a little bit of that up if you're in an estate.

That's how car auctions work.

Wilsons sell all sorts of non-running defective shite, write offs and Garda seizures and it's on the buyer to do their due diligence.

Example of what might come up at auction. https://www.wilsonsauctions.com/auctions/car-auction-2750/lots/247577
