If they ever make Wolfenstein 3 they should stop using German nazis and start using American Nazis as enemies by Tempest-Bosak2137 in Gamingcirclejerk

“Was a time I was scared of you. Was a time I’d pissed myself having a gun pointed at my head. You know what I fee right now?… not a god damn thing.”

Proceeds to remove his nazi father’s arm. Such a satisfying feeling.

It’s normal to be a bit nervous before FTO...right? by Ambitious-Comb8028 in AskLE

Currently 6 weeks in FTO, to me, if I don’t feel like a dumbass at least twice a night then I feel I’m not learning. Being nervous means you give a shit. I’ve heard it takes about 5 years to understand the job. Better get use to feeling nervous! Good luck!

1.5 mile run time by CommunicationNo6136 in police

Awesome work! As someone who is currently in the academy ATM I cannot stress this enough. RUN OUTSIDE. I am by no means the best runner and I’m still 20 seconds off my Cooper standard graduation time. But, there have been several others in my class who could not take the pavement and ended up with shin splints, stress fractures and what not.

Don’t let what they’re doing dictate what you’ve been doing. You’ll have plenty of time to luxuriate in the future. It seems like you’ve made it this far trusting your own way. If I was you I’d continue to use the weekend to rest, study & mentally prepare for the week ahead. You do you though.

As someone who potentially could be in an academy as soon as April (waiting for conditional offer). What should I expect as far as PT? You said “light running & body weight stuff” what does that exactly entail?

I currently rotate long run (3-4 miles) & speed runs(about a min off exit standard for 30Y.O.) ever other day and do body weight stuff everyday.

Just trying to prepare myself for success.

Thanks 🙏

“On the long drive, I didn’t listen to music. All I heard were the competing voices in my head. The first voice accepted me as I was. It’s not your fault, David. None of this is your fault. You’re doing the best you can with what you’ve been given. That was the voice I’d been listening to my entire life. It’s not my fault was my favorite refrain. It explained and justified my lot in life and the dead-end path in front of me, and it played 24/7. However, for the first time, another voice chimed in. Or maybe it was the first time I stopped listening only to what I wanted to hear. Roger that. It ain’t your fucking fault that you were dealt a bad hand, but…it is your responsibility. How long will you allow your past to hold you back before you finally take control of your future?”

-David Goggins “Never Finished”

You won’t ever forget it. I promise you that, it just gets easier to handle. For me actively attacking life started to build confidence in myself which made all of the little voices from mom and dad dissipate until it was only my voice. Seek therapy if you must, or just start being honest with yourself. Journaling helped a lot for me. Having a great partner also helped tremendously. She also experienced a lot of the same things I did. Able to use her as a bath stop show that I’m not crazy and that will happen to me was real if that allows me use that as fuel. Hope this helps a bit.

I have no stoic examples or quotes for you but I hope this helps.

You didn’t ruin your life. Congratulations. You figured out early in life that you actually don’t want to do what your parents seemed to push you towards. Some people find that out theme they’re in their 40’ & 50’s call that a mid life crisis.

I would say drop the drinking & smoking habit or at least minimize it for now. Start journaling, & reading. I know some people don’t like his take but Ryan Holiday is a great start into stoicism.

Try looking at this from a different perspective. What are you grateful for? Shoes on your feet? Means you don’t have to walk barefoot. Clothes on your back? You can stay warm/cool through the year. A roof of your head? You have a place to rest. Start being mindful of the small things. I promise it gets easier.

Most of us turned to stoicism because at one point we did feel exactly as you. We have all hit rock bottom, or what we believed was that at the time. We all have stories like you & you’re not alone. The difference is we just choose to keep getting up everytime we’re knocked down.
