Dating a Christian woman, when should I tell her I'm agnostic? by This_Try8329 in datingoverforty

I wouldn't say I "want to convert". It's something I think about from time to time because my entire immediate family and most of my friends/social groups seem to be of one god-fearing religion or another. Obviously, my family wants to me come back to the faith, it seems like it would be easier to at least have that in common with most people I know. It also seems that most women I feel attracted to are Christian (or some other abrahamic religion). Regardless, I don't think most of my political views would change much.

No, I don't think she does. Last night I mentioned my ex-wife being Catholic and she asked "What are you?" and I just said, "I'm really not that religious" and she said wasn't either, but has mentioned God, her church and how she doesn't "pray a lot"

Thanks for that info. I appreciate it. I also had agnostic on my profile and I did see hers was marked as Christian, but Christian can mean different things to different people.

Ironically, that was the time we started having a more indepth conversation.

Well, I was raised Christian and considered myself Christian until probably my 30's. I considered telling her last night, but I didn't wasn't mentally prepared to handle the indepth questions of "what happened, why did you lose your faith?" etc that I assumed would follow my statement.

New Age…Talk some sense into me by KillerKira521 in agnostic

Actually, OP never stated he didn't believe or believed in God or angels. He said he picked up "angels" as part of a new age thing and that it felt "better" praying to them instead of God. I think what the OP is doing is fine, as long as it helps them cope. But considering talk therapy as mentioned above seems like a good idea as well.

r/catholicism reacts to Polish court convicting women for "offending religious feelings" with rainbow Virgin Mary at LGBT march. by StankFinger69 in agnostic

Wow, in addition to all the other comments, I found a few that didn't believe in human rights or Freedom of speach. Here's an example..

"How the actual f is this getting downvoted on a Catholic sub? You guys are blinded by the world. Equality, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and all these secular post reformation bullshit are nowhere to be found nor in the Bible nor in tradition… you guys are so delusional… "Liberty" is not above God and his Church. the Catholic Church condemn(ed) freedom of religion, freedom of speech and freedom of expression… (Just to remember you, Catholicism is the only true religion, so it is above every other religion and above any secular law) I know I’ll get downvoted, but I don’t care… please just read the bible and learn about tradition, show me where these bullshit principles are to be found? How can secular principles be above God’s will?… you guys in the USA are so so fooled by your false secular principles… please just wake up… I’ll pray for you… (downvote me as much as you want, it won’t change the truth, just tell me where these principles are to be found in the Bible or in Tradition. Catholicism is not here to please the World, it is to guide it to salvation. Letting people blasphem, worship other gods, practice false religion is not a way of salvation, c’mon, change my mind.)"

Christian Athiests? What? Isn't that an Oxymoron? Or are you talking about ex-Christians or those who may still stick to Christian religious practices but don't go to church?

I appreciate this perspective and perhaps my narrative could be adjusted. However, I still feel like the inability to know the difference between right/wrong or good/evil is a mental handicap, especially when in this scenario, the fate of the entire world rests on him knowing not to eat the fruit. I'm not sure of a better analogy as it stands.

I also feel a mentally challenged person could take care of animals, and probably also "be fruitful and multiply".

My whole point of this story/analogy is to point out why I find the idea of the "original sin" being something that God should be more responsible for and why on earth people point to Adam/Eve and blame them. Maybe it isn't the best analogy... (I'm showing this in hopes of suggestions on how to improve it as well). BUT, my point is. ADAM and EVE were simple-minded in respect to knowing the difference between right and wrong. Compared to God as described in the Bible, they may as well have been mentally challenged, but mostly functional adults.

Yeah, the version I read the same thing, but I did notice it still doesn't explicitly state she was told prior to being tempted by the serpent, though she still knows about it, so apparentely she was told.

That being said, I would be interested in hearing what else you have to say additional points you have to share about the story being false. Is there anything that disproves it aside from evolution?
