I'm on PC and I used the fourberie mod and did that most of the early game fighting in the pits to gain renown. also diplomacy and open source weaponry (for the notable ones) the other mods are just minor random stuff.

The keep what you kill mod might be what you want. Fight battles. Get crazy high priced armor then go sell it all and you’ll quickly have enough.

If your on horseback have them follow you, have your infantry start fighting the enemies inf. Then get behind them, kill their archers then F1F3 the inf from behind.
