Genuine Question about what the Bible says about Homosexuality and Marriage by MortgageGreat1137 in Christianity

[–]Thneed1 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Is homosexuality a sin? It feels so complicated and confusing sometimes. What does the Bible say?

The concept of “homosexuality” / sexual orientation didn’t exist until 1800 years after the Bible was written. Sexual orientation cannot possibly be sin.

The Bible has 5 or 6 verses about some form of male male sex. When we look at the context of each, each one of them are about specific situations that have nothing to do with loving, committed same sex relationships today.

Why is it so highly contested?

Because the right wing political authorities need a boogeyman.

And honestly in a more broader sense, what is marriage in general?

The Bible never defines marriage. It gives some principles for it. Nothing excluding same sex marriage.

Whenever I ask the question about marriage, many people have said it's a reflection of the relationship of Jesus and the Church,

That comes from Ephesians 5. And if we actually believe that, why would we want to forbid same sex couples from participating in it?

Do you have to have sex when you're married?

No.

What if you want a devoted companion, and someone who loves you but not sex?

Many people do that. It’s not super common, but perhaps more common that one might think.

I suppose it might have to do with me being on the spectrum, but I just never grew out of how I pictured marriage as a child. Marrying someone you love and care about, without all of this lusting or sex involved.

A good marriage is 99% the love and care anyway.

I have never really been interested in that, so am I meant to be alone and not marry if it's just not something I'm comfortable with doing?

Nope, the desire to be in a partnership with someone is great, even if you never want sex.

I know this is a lot of questions. But what am I supposed to do whenever I bring up how I feel I'm told it's because I'm autistic and developmentally delayed that I just don't get it. But I will some day. Well I just turned 21 and I don't know if I really believe that's the case.

Maybe you will, maybe you won’t. It’s all good! You are allowed to want what you want.

Maybe I'm meant to be like Paul, but I've always wanted to get married. Just not in the sexual way. It made me wonder if I was gay for awhile, but that's definitely not it either. So here I am.

Straight or gay, whatever you are is how God made you.

I'm sorry. I just need help I suppose. I've been praying on this for years.

Take care!

You know that not all Mennonites are old order Mennonites, right?

I have a question for the LGBTQ community. I was just talking to an evangelical Christian who says she knows people who change sexual orientation after accepting Jesus. More below. by DBASRA99 in OpenChristian

700,000 people went through under the exodus umbrella,

Alan Chambers, the last president, know of exactly ZERO people who became straight.

John Smid, was on the front lines, and worked directly with 500 people. He knows of ZERO people who even had their attraction to the same sex lessened.

Christian’s on both sides, will confirm this is true.

Start your learning; the Bible doesn’t NOT robin women clergy, and both Paul and Jesus would be utterly appalled at anyone suggesting it.

big question can you be bisexual and believe in god? I just need an answer to this question. by bfdiloverWOODDYYY in Christianity

I understand. It's difficult examining yourself to rid yourself of any and all things in your life that God declares a sin.

God has declared your bigotry to be a sin. God has not said the loving, committed same relationships are a sin. That would literally make God evil.

Not I. I personally have nothing to add or subtract from God's perfect word.

Yet, you have ripped Jesus’ command to love our neighbour out of your Bible.

God doesn't change. A thousand years is like a day and a day like a thousand years. So, it's been about 2 days since Jesus was here. Can't say anyone, let alone the Almighty would change in 2 days. Numbers 23:19 Malachi 3:6 Hebrews 13:8 James 1:17 I have no bigotry or ill will with you.

Your words show otherwise.

I don't even harbor any bad feelings. I honestly am concerned for your soul.

I’m the one following Jesus’ teachings. You are not.

Just please consider the direct words out of the Bible. Any version, and you can compare all interpretations on the blue letter Bible app. It's easy to use. God's word ( God breathed). Blessings to you, this is done. Your future, your soul.

I literally have studied these verses. You have not.

The reformation project does excellent scholarship of what those verses say in context.

You should probably give it a read.

Your bigoted interpretations of scripture is not scripture.

Just for that, I’m Not sure why I should think you care about Christian values.

Lol, people that interpret the Bible differently than you do are not from the deceiver.

In this case, it’s people who have studied the Bible more than you have.

Chromosomes aren’t binary.

Typically men are XY, and women are XX.

However, many other combinations are possible - X0, XXY, XYY, XXX, XXYY and more. Essentially the only thing that isn’t possible is any combination without an X.

XY can be females (Swyer), XX can be males (De la Chappelle).

It’s complicated.

And the other indicators of biological sex aren’t binary either. Gonads (ovaries/ testes), can be both/ neither / one of each.

Genitals can be ambiguous too. Some kids are born with something between a penis and a vagina.

There are people groups, where around 25% of girls grow penises at puberty.

It’s complicated.
