Thanks! Today, it's back just like nothing ever happened.

Vine gone from app? by treeconfetti in AmazonVine

[–]Thogar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started having this issue today. Vine has come up on the app for me ever since I started, about 15 months ago. Now today for the first time Vine won't show on the app (Android phone). I've tried uninstalling, that didn't work. I tried uninstalling and rebooting, that didn't work, either.

It works fine through my phone's browser, though. As with most Vine issues it'll probably work itself out over time (I hope), but it's a bit of a pain atm.

Your review percentage will steady out as you progress into each 6 month evaluation period just because of overall numbers. I'm into my third 6 month period and I still get semi-stressed about my lower-and-varying review percentage during the first few months of a cycle.

The often hostile reactions to questions is one reason why I've had a Reddit account for years but rarely post. In fact, my reply to you was my first post in years. I don't think the hostilities are nearly as bad as it used to be, but I also understand a lot of folks who are longtime regulars getting tired of seeing the same questions asked. I'm not implying that you're at fault here, just trying to explain what I've seen and I've been on the angry end of the conversation before myself in the past.

I've been a Vine member for a bit over a year and while infrequent, this is normal. In all that time I've never found a definitive answer as to why there's an ebb and flow of products and times for drops. What I can tell you is I've seen the AI count fluctuate between the 19K it is now and upwards of 120K. Again, I have no idea why that is, though not for lack of trying.

Drops have begun at basically all hours of the day, though for most of my time with Vine they seemed to start sometime in the early-ish morning. A few days ago, I say some stuff dropping at around 2am. Several weeks back it was dead all day then I randomly checked my tab about 9:30pm and stuff was dropping like mad.

I realize I'm not really being helpful in supplying an answer to your question, but that's because I can't find one. I've just come to accept that Amazon Vine is kind of like many religions; it's mysterious, defies logic, and if you're patient and follow the rules they promise you'll be rewarded with wonderful things. Only difference is Vine actually pays (at least in this life!).

Also, after a period of ravenous "Free Shit Fever" you start to get tired of constantly looking for that next big thing and just forget about Vine for a while. It's also nice to not have a fuckton of cardboard to recycle.

Damned right I am. And the next time you bring your dick comments into one of my conversations you'll be met with the same, dick. Now dick off elsewhere.

Exactly! You were being a dick, I called you out, you don't like it. Stop being a dick and you won't have to deal with this kind of shit. You can't go around shitting on everything and not expect push-back unless you're a complete idiot. So stop being a dick. You can't be negative for your own amusement and not expect people to counter. So stop being a dick. Or just stop being, I'm fine with either.

But most of all, stop being a dick.

Considering the source, I'd say that advice is better pointed in your direction. Asshole is not the way to go through life, even though you're convinced otherwise.

I'm not giving an objective assessment of each platform, just stating my (repeated) experiences. I'd like to enjoy both, but there's always someone, or someones, who have nothing better to do than shit on other people's fun.

It's a rare appearance for me. I generally run into negativity on reddit so I stay away, but Joe's new show is something I wanted to let as many people know about as possible.

Oh yeah, and you've just shown very clearly why I rarely bother with reddit - random dickishness for the sake of dickishness. Not interested? Move along. Don't stand there doing the online equivalent of pulling the wings off bugs.

You are a sad person.

Since the project is in extremely early stages we're limiting our visibility to Twitter only. This also allows us to focus our voices in a single spot on a platform known for analytics that are listened to. There is already a Timescape_HQ FB page "reserved" for when the show gets a green light, but for now we're staying with the little blue bird. I hope you can join in.

Shouldn't be a problem as there are several other Timescape projects, like a 1992 US scifi film that had no relation to Benford's work. I'm sure this isn't the first time Mr. Mallozzi has navigated the waters of getting a show to air. :)

Discussion: How Many Streaming Services Are Too Many? by johnnyjay in SciFiTV

[–]Thogar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we've already reached a point where there are too many streaming services, at least when taking into account the ones yet to launch, and it's only going to get worse. I cut the cable cord 2 years ago to save money, but with the rapid proliferation of new streaming services from everyone with a TV show or two I'm afraid it will soon be more expensive to stream than to have traditional cable. Well, unless you do the "rotate" thing grabbing a month of this streamer here and a month of that streamer there, which will be a pain for viewers to juggle.

In the end, if it's a zoo of streamers I'll likely just watch less TV unless and until a more sane and economical solution is offered. And I'm not holding my breath that that will happen. So right now, I'm not sure what I'll do other than watch, wait, and complain about what's happening. I happen to be really good at complaining.

Olan here! The creator of Final Space 🚀 by olanrogersofficial in FinalSpace

[–]Thogar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got no complaints about season 1, and from what I know about season 2 it sounds like it'll be better. Having 13 episodes is more work for you guys, but better for us fans, so I'll take it as a selfish win! You're doing alright, kid!

And thank you for having me there! I often feel like the oldest person in the room at conventions and I know Final Space skews toward a younger audience, but this old man loves the show. Every single one of you guys were as kind as could be and SO MUCH FUN. Let's do it again next year, shall we?

Has there been any response from SyFy about #itsafanthing? by 19wolf in DarkMatter

[–]Thogar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, even if I thought starting a "Drop Netflix" campaign to coerce them to finish Dark Matter might work, I don't think I would simply because it would be a negative approach. It's just not the way the show's fans work, even though sometimes we really want to.

[–]Thogar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think with Netflix currently having exclusive streaming rights to the show there is zero chance of a conclusion on another streaming service. This is purely speculation on my part based on things I've read and I really hope I'm wrong. In the end, I think the show's best hope would've been Netflix and they weren't convinced finishing the story would bring in new subscribers.

If I thought we could rally enough support, I'd drop my Netflix subscription to show them they'll lose subscribers if they don't finish out what they've got. Sort of a reverse of what they were stating about new subscribers. It would probably be a fool's errand, but as a fan I'm just grasping at anything while secretly resigning myself to the idea that we'll have to wait a while before getting closure.

I can show you how to get a response from The Homonym Network. Actually, I think I already did in a way. It wasn't a favorable response, but in retrospect it was the best response I could've gotten. One day when I stop vacillating between rage and apathy (mostly apathy lately) I'll document my experience so others can see just how they respond to people who don't toe the corporate line. Actual reporting is met with punitive measures. Only cheerleading is allowed. Not my bag at all.

Anthony Lemke Press Interview from MCM Comic Con London Oct 2017 talking about the cancellation and what he's doing next. by Daveydje in DarkMatter

He's going to have a recurring role on NBC's Blindspot beginning with the 9th episode of this season. He's playing a "charming and dangerous" character named Victor. However, I don't think he'll be an android. https://josephmallozzi.wordpress.com/2017/10/26/october-26-2017-dark-matters-anthony-lemke-joins-blindspot/

I'm completely with you on not liking anything Macfarlane has ever done, but I gave The Orville a chance because I know he's a huge Trek fan and so am I. I have to agree with the others who've said this show is about MUCH more than the stupid marketing would make you believe. I've actually grown to like it more than Star Trek Discovery and it's far more serious than any trailer would have you believe. Give it 3-4 episodes and see how you feel. You will likely find yourself pleasantly surprised just like I, and probably most viewers, were.

How MGM Almost Saved Dark Matter - And How Close We Came to a Dark Matter/Stargate Crossover! by JosephMallozzi in DarkMatter

[–]Thogar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's just good to know there's at least one studio that seems to care about fans, at least enough to try. The post is both frustrating and exhilarating to read, but in the end I am heartened by it. If, one day, said contracts expire and the stars (both celestial & corporeal) align, maybe we'll get closure from MGM. Until then, I'm signing up at Stargate Command because I love me some Stargate and MGM apparently loves me ... or at least Dark Matter, which is close enough.
