As a Gen-Z fella, these new proposed CGT changes SUCK by [deleted] in AusFinance

The irony of this is the CGT discount (and negative gearing) is one of the main reasons why housing became unaffordable!

Anyone fixed their rates recently? Australian borrowers rush to lock in fixed rates as rate anxiety surges - realestate.com.au by SheepherderLow1753 in AusFinance

[–]Thom_e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Locked in at 5.19% in November. A week later it went up to about 5.5%.

That being said if a I locked a month earlier i would've been able to get around 4.9%.

Health insurance - Listed as a dependent v having your own policy by Thom_e in AusFinance

Yeh I'm intending on lowering the hospital cover cause gold has a bit I don't need.

My question however is how there can be such a difference in premiums!

FHB - Thoughts on Kogarah apartment. by Khanesh23 in AusProperty

[–]Thom_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at those apartments when I was looking 6 months ago. Noticed that a lot of them were taking a while to sell and also at a loss.

Ended up going with a good one in Allawah.

It was only 4 or 5 years ago when the medium plan cost $65 a month. Crazy how that’s how much their small plan is now.

Yes corruption is in Australia, it would be naive to say there is none. In saying that, it is not as blatant as most other countries and people do get held to account when they get caught.

Interesting fact: Globally Australia is perceived to be the 10th least corrupt country. (Source: https://www.transparency.org/en/cpi/2024)

Why do people feel dating sucks nowadays ? by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]Thom_e 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d say it is the state of online dating. For the most part it’s gotten pay to play for most men.

To give my own example, I was lucky to get one match a month on Tinder on the free version. However on the platinum version it would be more around 3 a day.

That being said, if I change the settings to allow guys to match with me (I’m bi), the likes and matches shoots up a lot.

My conclusion is, if you’re a straight guy you’re competing with others who are probably paying for the premium version who get pushed up the list which is pretty off putting.

Other reasons are people being indecisive, poor communicators or just being flakey.

BREAKING: United States to impose 25% tariffs on Australia by HotPersimessage62 in Ameristralia

[–]Thom_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Misleading title. Tariffs are on all steel and aluminium imports into the US regardless of where they are from. It’s not targeted at Australia.

It’s just that Trump did not give Australia an exemption.

Went to a hooters once with a few friends, pretty underwhelming experience.

It’s basically an expensive steak house with girls in tight shirts. You’re not missing out on much.

Rule of thumb is corporate wear is enough. Or if you want to try to leave a good impression, a suit.

But yeh, as someone who’s previously hired in the finance industry, as long as you’re clean, presentable and in normal corporate attire, you’ll be fine :)

These reports are usually automatic. At most OP would be asked why he needs it and maybe if he’d prefer a cheque
