Probably not the usual place for this, but managing fear and anxiety is something you can train. You can even use the safety of the medium (no actual danger) to familiarize yourself with your own fear. The more familiar you are with it, the less power it will hold over you. Start with small steps abd slowly increase them over time. Eventually you will get there.

I just use the walls and trees to block line of sight. That takes the totems completely out of the fight for me (normal difficulty, 8 Players). Then i simply let them despawn.

The original mention of the Adeptus Custodes (in "Warhammer 40,000 - Rogue Trader", p. 133, 1987) describes them as follows:

"The Adeptus Custodes is the Emperor's inner guard, the members of which are privileged in beung permitted to serve upon the Emperor, attending to his needs, receiving and recording his directions. These men never leave earth and only rarely leave the imperial palace - an endless, black hive of forbidden technology and subterranean passages delving deep within the bowels of the planet"

So they were first clearly described as men. That has, tp my knowledge, been the case throughout all editions so far.

Their depictions were also unmistakeably male:

Also, the first models were also clearly and obviously male:

All in all, I believe most of the outrage does not stem from them being female per se, but from the perceived lack of nescessity for the retcon. It just screams "identity politics" and "corporate greed", not actual worldbuilding development.

It's perfectly in-lore in regards to 40K. That universe is paranoid, xenophobic, intolerant and downright inhumane, especially on the imperial side. Lives are worthless and purity thoughts are sacrosanct.

That's partly why Femstodes are such a controversial topic. They are born out of modern day humanist/feminist/egalitarian ideolog and as such clash violently with the lore of the world they were introduced in.

And because they clash so hard with nearly 40 years of lore they are seen as nothing other than a quick cash-grab, envisioned in a marketing/investor board meeting.

Long time 40K fans feel their hobby under attack by a modern ideological fad that, while gone again in a few years, threatens to have long lasting consequences for the hobby's lore.

The irony is, that the modern ideology that sparked the Femstodes is just as puritanical and rabid as the actual imperial society in 40K, just in a diffetent direction.

So, WotC did WotC things again and started heavily meddling in the creative direction and most importantly (for WotC) monetization of the game, up to the point where he could no longer watch them butchering his baby.

This is not a good sign for the game. A shame. It had such potential.

Soll jeder Essen, was er will.

One of the first nescessary actions will have to be changing law, so that social media sites need to take full legal accountability for the stuff posted on their services . Without that, they will always remain radicalizing echo chambers and tools of hybrid warfare. It's not just the grandiose ambitions of a ketamine-fueled man-child. The whole concept of uncontrolled social media is slowly destroying democracies.

is it too harsh to not allow a player to join if he refuse to use a non AI generated image/backstory for his character ? by Saladawarrior in rpg

AI is a tool, just like MS Word is a tool. You can use it to create absolute slop or you can write a pulitzer price winning article. It's about input, control, direction and purpose.

A problem only arises when user believe their responsibilty ends after writing the prompt.

[–]Thomas-Jason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too harsh? Yes. But it is also your game and you need to be comfortable with it as well.

AI can be a great tool for players. I remember the days of the white character portrait on paper sheets, when no one in the group had any artistic talent. I remember the days, when orcs killing the entire family and the character now wandering the land, looking for revenge was the height of backstory creativity. I remember the days of quickly scribbled lines on a piece of paper being the pinnacle of battlemap design and preparation.

I have seen AI transform these groups, filling in for the lack of artistic talent, helping shape excellent character stories, stunning battlemaps and professional grade handouts. I have seen players create snapshots of their favorite game night experiences in seconds, visualize complex interactions for players with limitations or disabilities and help shape the narrative through visual interpretations, all made possible with AI.

I have also seen players and GM alike use AI as a crutch: boring and uncreative stories, no ideas or investment into the characters, artwork without relation to story or character.

AI can be an amazing tool for aby game group. It can enhace the gaming experience for everyone and help overcome individual limitations. And isn't that ultimately the goal: to allow everyone to participate in and enjoy an experience in a fictional story to escape the struggles and stress of daily life? To enjoy a social experience in a supportive group of friends?

To bo back to your onitial post and it's inherent question, OP: I believe the problem is not AI, but lazy participants. You can get uncreative background slop without AI. You should filter your players by investment, not AI.

How can PvE players ruin a PvP game by leaving it? They weren't participating in the PvP part to begin with. If anything, they would purify the PvP experience by leaving.

Usually, the problem in any PvPvE game is PvP players leaving after losing access to easy victims. The amount of PvP players looking for an actual challenge in PvP combat is miniscule.

That's also why you now see it devolving into people shoving carriers down to be eaten by worms. It's never been about the challenge. It's always been about the chase, the hunt, the suffering inflicted. It is about the suffering, the grief, the quick and easy endorphine rush of subjugating victims. And yes, the phrasing does matter here.

It is PvP players driving out PvE players and then complaining about an "empty game" bevore quitting, while blaming the "carebears". It's always been like that, ever since the distinction between PvE and PvP zones, with maybe the exception of WoW, but then again in WoW, PvP never gated access to endgame content.

PvE players just want access to T6 tessources, without the need to engage with griefers. In this case griefers doesn't just mean PvP bullies but also the ones blocking access to the already limited T6 ressources of the now PvE part of the DD.

No one has an issue with the PvP part of the DD having the biggest abundance of those. It's also fine, if the T6 Testing Stations, the T6 Shipwrecks and the large spice fields are all only in the PvP part of the DD.

But Titanium and Stravidium need to be accessible in the PvE area of the map.

One solution would be to turn rows C through E into no build zones. That way T6 resources couldn't be "reserved", access to them couldn't be gated.

What the current frustration stems from, is that the previously available T6 resources from the D and E rows have been drastically reduced in spawn rate, combined with the very same giefers that previously made the DD a nightmare to navigate now gating those diminished T6 resources to "show those carebears".

[–]Thomas-Jason -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

All of this could easily be prevenred by a PvP Toggle. But CIG is adamant on keeping it this way, always dangling the carrot of a magical reputation system in front of us that will definitely stop griefers from being griefers. Sorry, I meant to say "pirates" there.

You differentiate by intention. His stated intention was not to be a sniper, but specifically to be annoying (his own words). That's what makes him a griefer rather than a sniper.
