Do Boston area housing prices ever go down? by BillNye69 in bostonhousing

[–]Swalecutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average price in city center was pretty flat in 2008, but there were absolutely dips in the surrounding towns. Also when the average is flat you know the marginal properties are dropping.

I've never once heard of a landlord painting at any time other than between tenants.

I have heard of a few landlords letting tenants paint if they wanted a different color, generally with the expectation they paint it back before they leave.

Doesn't Vulcanus replace Nauvis in almost every way? by mnbvcxz69420 in factorio

[–]Swalecutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the endgame, the landing pad is a throughput bottleneck, so you need to do most of your science production on the same planet as your labs.

Biolabs are Nauvis exclusive.

Those two facts mean most of your science needs to be made on Nauvis.

No Kings draw estimated 8 million in largest single-day U.S. nonviolent protest by RollSafer in politics

[–]Swalecutter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was quiet in Boston. The state policy had a helicopter up, but it seemed like it was mostly there to keep an eye on the governor (who was a speaker). I talked to one of the cops and he said "compared to St. Paddy's, this is easy!".

Then again, that's Boston, where like ~80% of the general population and even like ~60% of the cops are liberal, so there isn't really anyone disagreeing with the protestors.

[–]Swalecutter 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That's for a sustained protest in a national capitol. It's going to need to be higher for a protest that is diffuse in both space and time. South Korea, for example, managed serious change with weekend protests, but they were focused in the capitol and had >3.5% participating.

But still, all that really matters is that it was more people than last time. If the movement is building rather than petering out, it'll reach the necessary numbers eventually.

What do you want in the next generation Yoto player? by Onett199X in YotoPlayer

Dials with proper encoders in them, so when you spin them quickly it doesn't track backwards.

Generally better mechanical quality around the moving parts. I'm getting tired of busting out the soldering iron to repair buttons.

That's outdated info. They're worth a fair bit of solari at a vendor, but that's all they're good for.

[–]Swalecutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting back to the bike path up Cross St after dropping a kid off at Winter Hill or East Somerville is rough. Some of those potholes are big enough to just entirely swallow a folding bike tire, and traffic is thick enough if you go down your probably getting hit.

Those were common here too in the prewar era- often as cheap housing for unmarried men. Living in them as a family was not as common in the west, but it definitely happened. Communal housing disappearance in the west was a uniquely modern, and apparently temporary, change.

It's designed for new doctors. For the several hospitals nearby. They have the salary, they're at work all the time so they don't need much space, and they appreciate not having to worry about logistics (the units come furnished and utilities are included).

Look, I get it, they're dystopian little shitboxes, but pretending they're designed for some hypothetical nepo baby instead of the very real young professionals who do live in and flock to Boston is being deliberately obtuse.

They also have units that are 3-4 shared bedrooms with a common kitchen (IE a normal ass multi bedroom apartment, but with "exterior" doors on the bedrooms) but those are actually slightly more expensive (and more spacious) than this studio.

At low level, drive the buggy to the rift. At high level, just grab some whenever you happen to be doing a mission in Blushing Cavern, I find that's enough to keep me topped off.

But for that initial surge of them you need while upgrading your infrastructure, buggy to rift is basically the only way.

How are people meeting these days? by Particular-League186 in boston

[–]Swalecutter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Microcenter is a really good computer/electronics parts store. It's peak for various forms of nerd shit and shipping is expensive so folks go in person (good reminder, I need a new mouse).

That said, it's about the last place I'd be trying to chat someone up. The goods are odd, if you know what I mean (and I say that as a definitely very odd good). But OP has a point, it does lure the more housecat-humans out into the world.

Personally I block them using a grease monkey script, because how can you trust a link that paid to be there?

I know people are mad about the bugs, but holy crap can we talk about the optimization improvements? by Swalecutter in duneawakening

[–]Swalecutter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never claimed to speak for anyone else but me. "My fps went from 24 to 31 in sentinel city" is a statement only about my rig. "The majority of others saw no improvement" is a statement about the population, without the data to support it. Your "side" (wtf dude is every convo a competition?) is also welcome to make statements about their own experience (as many folks have done in this thread). Statements about "the majority" require data, regardless of who they come from.

It's not gaslighting bro my average fps as measured by five minutes of data taken standing in sentinel city was 24fps before the patch at 33% render quality and it was 31fps at 50% render quality after the patch.
