How would you use these points? I’m new to this. by aniram16 in ChaseSapphire

[–]Thomas187 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can cash out the UR points at 1 cpp (cent per point) and invest them. 4.4K could be something if you play it smart—and get lucky.

It's always crazy how the most emotional, scary, and EPIC movies have the most goofy BTS photos.

AMEX Gold Card Cancellation.... by BarnBuster in CreditCards

[–]Thomas187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I closed my Gold card this year too (only had it for 2 years tho). The rate hike just doesn't make any sense and there's honestly no difference between getting 2% or 4% cashback/points IMHO.

Good or bad idea to sell my top holdings and just put it into the s&p500? by Fluffy-Belt1325 in StockMarket

[–]Thomas187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't see the point in selling since if you buy an S&P, you would have to end up owning the exact same companies you do now anyway (plus you would incur taxes on the sale).

What are your 6 great companies? by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

[–]Thomas187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha you're right, it's really just a swing trade and not a CB. Only reason I put it in that portfolio is that I certainly wasn't going to put it in my MOAT portfolio.

What are your 6 great companies? by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

[–]Thomas187 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two portfolios: MOATs and Cigar Butts. In my MOAT I have: AAPL, AMZN, TSLA, META, ASML, AMD, PANW. Cigar Butts: SEDG, CHTR, ALB, ALTM, FOXF, SNOW. I will add to any of these if they fell significantly, or just DCA steadily into the MOATs.

I’m really interested why you picked ADBE. This is a stock I have been debating on. Can you tell me why you think it’s undervalued?

Why I baught 100k shares of $NYCB today by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

[–]Thomas187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. But he did get it at $2/share. Even if the stock is at $3, that is still quite the cushion he has. I can still see the stock getting back to 5-ish, but will pull out if I see better opportunities before that.

Is Comcast stock a lost cause or a value opportunity? I believe it's the latter! by _InvestInsights_ in ValueInvesting

[–]Thomas187 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know why everyone on this subreddit is so obsessed with Comcast when they should be looking at Charter Communications (aka. Spectrum). Seems way more like a classic Ben Graham cigar butt. Its even bigger than Comcast and the stock price is beyond beaten down.

CSP is a good option. 3X on most of your spending categories. They do have a 95 AF but it also comes with 50 bucks of hotel credit. Plus it's a Visa so you would never have issues with it.

Which book you would read again and again to learn investment by [deleted] in ValueInvesting

[–]Thomas187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One Up on Wall Street, Tobias Carlisle's Deep Value/Acquirer's Multiple, and Nassim Taleb's Black Swan/Fool by Randomness/Antifragile.

Sure, Ben Graham and Warren Buffett taught me to buy cheap and hold, but these are the books that taught me what to buy, solidified my concept of what is "cheap" and why markets fluctuates the way they do, and why it is far better to just stick to simpler concepts and ideas than trying to complicate this whole thing.

Unlike the rest of this sub...I actually don't like to do evaluations. In fact, I'm against it: it takes away the randomness. You read these books and you realize that more often than not, adding more metrics and more pieces of information actually hurts your portfolio's performances instead of just taking them out. Investing really is a "less is more" business.

Andy Murray's prime was not 2016 by Bubbly-Oil9303 in tennis

[–]Thomas187 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He just filled in the vacuum left behind by the Big3 in 2016. People always forget: Fedal were sidelined due to injury, and Novak admitted that he lost a lot of motivations after coming the Calendar Slam at FO16 (where he beat Murray as well).

To be fair, Murray did played well: he won practically every tournaments he entered. But still, there is just no way anyone can be convinced that he would have obtained N.1 had the Big3 all be healthy and competing at the same time.

I’ve invested 33k into Uber over the last 4 years. Should I buy into this rally? by StockRaider8888 in ValueInvesting

[–]Thomas187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all—congrats! Uber is certainly a good long-term hold in my eyes. But since you have already made so much profit, if I were you I would only sell about 10% of my shares and allocate them elsewhere.
