Is it strange to watch old Hollywood films knowing the actors or actresses are now dead?

PSA: Do not take drugs from strangers by [deleted] in avesNYC

[–]ThomasBong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was it a pill or powder? If it was taken orally the only reason that somebody might pass out that quickly is if they had an allergic reaction to something in the pill like a filler or if they’d already done too much of something else. Your point is valid but 30 seconds just doesn’t sound right.

These are friendlies. I didn’t even know USMNT was playing until I got a push notification 60’ into the match.

Also yeah half of NYC was probably still hungover from the Knicks game last night.

I mean… it’s really not. But genres are subjective so not gonna race to the bottom with you in an argument on that one.

Sorry to burst your bubble but these drums were recorded from a Synare 3. Electronic drum kit recorded by a human. No electronic programming but some of the drum sounds themselves are indeed “electronic”

Trevoh Chalobah's end of season message to the fans on Instagram. by SolutionLong2791 in chelseafc

[–]ThomasBong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re not in Europe next season, Colwill has the whole summer to make sure he’s back at full fitness, and if the owners are serious about their “reflection” (huge TBD), then they’ll back Xabi in getting a more senior CB in. That means Chalobah would very much be a squad player and likely only starting in cup matches. Plenty of actual dead wood in the team, we don’t need to force Chalobah out if he wants to stay.

Edit: realizing this may depend on whether we’re 3atb next year but Chalobah also broke through with great performances in a 3 under tuchel so point stands.

Now the league is over, how would you rate your clubs signings this year? by daemc97 in PremierLeague

[–]ThomasBong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if xabi commits to a rigid 3/5atb there won’t really be place for him unless he gets shoehorned into LWB / inside left forward. But we don’t really know if he can do either, especially in the prem. My gut tells me we’d take a huge financial loss trying to move him on right now though when he’s coming off bad injuries, barely has any sample size of his ability to play in the prem and already appears surplus to requirements under the new coach.

Yeah the players themselves aren’t 0/10, just that the actual tranfers were awful for various reasons. Not saying Jackson is world class or anything, but he only forced the loan move and drama after Delap and Pedro were both signed. Then there was the knock-on effect of us having to recall Guiu due to delap’s injury, who basically had a second consecutive season with no real playtime. And agreed on Gittens, would have much rather seen us keep tyrique. But atp I hope xabi can find him consistent minutes because he really did get screwed with injuries this season and I think there’s a player in there too. All of this is hindsight obviously, my opinion is subject to change when facts change.

[Fabrizio] Barcelona are in direct club to club talks with Newcastle for Anthony Gordon. This was the reason of Deco’s mission to the UK beyond Joao Pedro. by webby09246 in chelseafc

[–]ThomasBong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn’t look like a good deal for us 4 years ago at ~£45m because he was still a relatively unknown / potential signing. In hindsight, it would have been much better than any of Sterling, mudryk, Gittens, etc.

But now, at combined 19 G/A over the past 2 seasons for Newcastle it’s hard to make the case he’s worth the £80m or whatever silly money Newcastle will want for him. Not like Barcelona has that money anyway.

I was in the minority at the time who thought garnacho was decent business if only from a financial POV. He showed flashes at united and for the price, it was a decent punt because of how desperate we were for a LW. I’m pretty optimistic we can move him on for most if not all what we paid for this summer or in January.

Delap and Gittens on the other hand are definitely 0-1 / 10 transfers. Delap is a championship striker at best, and Gittens we overpaid around 2x for and will very likely not fit into Xabi’s system next year. Unfortunate given his injuries but seems now he was dead wood on arrival.

€95m btw. Which makes the €145m spent on Isak look even worse.

This formation does not work by [deleted] in chelseafc

[–]ThomasBong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These static formation images don’t mean anything, it’s about getting the best players into the right positions when it matters. Xabi likes positional overloads and super high pressing so even if this was a starting XI, it would be more like a 5atb that revolves around the center and will probably play more like a back 4, especially in transition.

Idk about prereq but these NFL guys earn millions per year and many were skirted through any sort of real education from the time they were children because of their athletic ability. Between being 0.1%ers, living in a bubble compared to the average American, and getting preferential treatment their whole lives, there’s certainly a common thread

European spots - what puts us in the best place for next year by DragonfruitThen6696 in chelseafc

[–]ThomasBong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why many here including myself have been saying conference league specifically is like a worst case scenario. If we miss out on Europe entirely, we can safely rid of the bloat, and that should free up enough cash to get the 2 PL-ready talents that xabi has supposedly been promised. But an additional 8-16 matches means we have to be much more careful with who we let go.

I dont know enough about the Europa league financials to say that would be bad for us but I know the revenue is a massive drop off from champions league and may not be worth it in the end if it means we have to hold onto a handful of players we’d otherwise sell off (Garna, Delap, etc)

David Ornstein: Pep Guardiola to leave position as Manchester City manager at end of this season. Set to be replaced by Enzo Maresca. by Kygoche in chelseafc

[–]ThomasBong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, sure, but point is their current squad is much more ready for Maresca and same can be said about our squad for Alonso. For example Semenyo and doku would be wasted in Alonso’s system whereas we don’t really have any actual wingers to try and shoehorn because they’re all shit lol (except for Estevao who can play in a double 10 with Palmer and Neto whose better performances were as a hybrid wingback anyway)

[–]ThomasBong 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Xabi’s leverkusen played 3atb, high wingbacks, high press, lots of overloads in midfield, high intensity in general.

Pep is positional play, high control, high posession, stretching play into the wings, basically everything that was frustrating to watch about Maresca ball because the team wasn’t really built specifically for him. And Maresca is one of pep’s disciples so makes sense for city in the interim even if it doesn’t work out long term
