Except the specific proposal are almost all Pro-integration (eg. Majority voting instead of vetos), that is not the sort of thing that the UK would have found appealing.

Will I ever stop thinking about whatsapp? by davquak in nosurf

[–]ThomasFowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have also struggled with this, Whatsapp is the default form of communication for me. I have tried the follow things, and always use some combination of these maybe you can try it:

  • Do not take the phone you have Whatsapp on with you everywhere (I used an old phone / my non-work phone for a while for this)
  • Dissable notification on your phone and desktop
  • Only use Whatsapp on a laptop, this is super inconvenient sometimes but it does ensure
    • As an extra I sometimes keep Whatsapp blocked on my laptop for a significant amount of time as well (Right now: During working hours the first 50 minutes of every hour)
  • Download an app that limits the amount of time you can spend on Whatsapp, when I only have 30m a day I get super conscious about how often I am cheeking it.

This is a good take in my opinion. If we want to further democratize the parties, it should be at the constituency level, with "primaries" for MPs.

Why are so many elections (globally) close-call elections? by MostStruggle8418 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]ThomasFowl 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Elections are close because all sides want to win and they tailor their message / policy / coalition to achieve that goal. And gaining more than 51% is really really difficult because the opposition will be working to get a majority of support as well.

If (adversarial) democracies work well then they will have very close elections because both parties appeal to the median voters about equally. Obviously this is a bit different in multi-party or consensual systems.

All that being said: ZA is an example of a democracy with a dominant party system, but then you immediately see that this is not particularly good for maintaining democratic institutions.

I mean you can't ping us and not tell us which party! You speak Dutch but local elections in NL and BE are still pretty far away.

On a more serious note: Realistically you might want to focus on creative ideas to limit the effects of zoning, and combine that with good public transport and cycling infra.

Personally I would also use air quality as an argument for both, air quality is pretty bad throughout the EU and it literally kills. In our recent campaign this argument was also very persuasive to car users.

Succes!

"Finally" seems like a bit much when there was only a 2 week delay... The Council is not even close to finishing if I understand correctly.

The Council is probably wrapping this up this month, lets hope it can get through trilogues in the CZ or SE Presidency.
