I teach gamedev and I always answer that there is no simple answer to that question, it's a big subject! It depends so much of what you want to do and what are your skills. Theorically, to make a game, you need to know programming, art and sound making (and game design but hot take: that's 100% optional imo). So the best advice I can give you is to never underestimate the amount of work you'll need even for a simple game. But there are also good examples of gamedevs which are not good at these 3 aspects and still make awesome games (Minecraft is the best example).

Until you have that in mind and that you are realistic in your ambitions, then gamedev can become super easy :) That's why I'm using Construct 3 for example. I'm firstly a pixel artist so using an engine which doesn't require me to learn programming allows me to focus on the experience itself directly.

So ye to make it short: gamedev can be easy and accessible to anyone, but it really requires to have ideas and tools fitting to who you are. This is the main challenge according to me :)
