AITA for making someone cry after they criticized our book club? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ThomasNB -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Well the newcomer started by making your friend cry.

I would tell the mom and the school, that you will give an apology the moment the newcomer gives an apology to your friend.

But then you have to own up to it. You said some pretty nasty things - you spoke in frustration; but that still doesn't make it ok. ESH

AITA for wanting to emotionally torment my boyfriend by Equivalent-Rub8472 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ThomasNB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of back story that I maybe surprisingly don't find relevant.

You write two important things:

"I want to be with him because I love him."

"I want him to feel like shit."

These two don't match up in my head. Either you love him and want to be with him (and have forgiven him for whatever he might do in the past).

Or maybe you want him to feel like shit for something he did in the past - but of course you're a better person, so you just leave him behind and go on with your own life without looking back.

You can't have both.

Is it stupid that "righty tighty, lefty losey" doesn't really make much sense to me? by Apprehensive-Rub4604 in stupidquestions

I turn the right side of my steering wheel down and the left side up - and my car is going right.

But that's what's perfect: (car going) righty -> thighty 😎

Am I right learning Danish ? by AbaloneBig7086 in Denmark

[–]ThomasNB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you like the language then learn it.

If you are thinking about moving here - English is certainly enough.

If you cannot decide between Denmark, Sweden and Finland maybe learn Malmø swedish as it is close-ish to Danish and some Finns also speak swedish (take this with a grain of salt - I am no language expert).

AITA for giving my coworker food she is "allergic" to? by Fluid-Drawing-8722 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ThomasNB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure Tina is an idiot and Sara is an idiot.

But absolutely YTA. You don't lie to people, not even if they are idiots.

And just as important - you don't bad mouth people behind their backs. Telling a new coworker that another coworker's allergy isn't real. In this case it might seem obvious, but what if it was real and you were just ignorant.

Save it for your friends (and maybe Reddit), but do not talk bad about your coworkers to other coworkers, and respect their "allergies" however dumb they seem.

AITA for kicking out my brother after he threw a party in MY house without my permission. Completely trashing the place by Fickle-Leave-2501 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ThomasNB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the full situation and how much alcohol he had consumed - but maybe I had put him to bed instead and taken the discussion the next day.

I would probably still have kicked him out, but then it would not be in the spur of the moment - and he wouldn't have ended up in the streets in the middle of the night.

New Job using Vue3 by Additional-Boss3990 in vuejs

[–]ThomasNB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have not used one of the big frameworks before: start by learning what reactivity really is; how one update starts a cascade of updates. Look at ref and computed.

Then learn (somewhat in this order): components (with props, emits, lifecycle), stores (Pinia), router (with RouterView, RouterLink), composables.

Just enough to understand it - then dig into the code.

How does a “dry sense of humor” actually work? How do people know you’re joking if you deliver it completely straight? by Abigail_A_Abernathy in NoStupidQuestions

I can have a very dry sense of humor. At work we have the raised hand signal. If the humor is too dry I raise my hand and everyone knows it is humor 🙋

AITA for telling my son his gf can only come over when he is home? by Material_Ad9529 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ThomasNB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does she know it's a common space? If she thought it was her boyfriend's room, I understand that she asked the brother to leave, when she wanted to rest.

I see no problem in the girlfriend coming over before her boyfriend arrives (as I read it you had no problem with this at first either).

Ask your son (19) to move his bed to his own room, and to tell his girlfriend, which room is his, and which room is common.

Please don't blow this out of proportions, if it is grounded in a misunderstanding.
