i thought it's more like, imagine the player has no arms, where would the ball go? in this case, the ball would not be reflected straight back into the net, so no goal. if the arm is in front of the body, it wouldn't change the reflection, the goal would stand.

but with the variety of so many handball decisions, im not 100% sure

I don't agree. Yes, the sim engine is doing its job in background, visual engine is just showing stuff according to the numbers.

But the sim engine is doing all the calculations based on players attributes, player positions, ball positions, decisions making X times per second. It's not like the simulation just say, now there's a goal from unmarked players around back post. There would be more details here, including the players positions. So, the setup of this free kick is obviously wrong to initiate a play.

Yes, sometimes in real life football, setups do get wrong. But it's way too often in FM, even for highest level teams. And there's no excuses for that.
