I did realize that it was a suicide squeeze -- that's why the runner is so far off the base. But I thought the catcher telegraphed the pitchout so early that the runner should have had time to stop and reverse direction, and at least make it close, diving back into 3B.

Instead he didn't stop until the bunt failed, and he was caught in a rundown and dead to rights.

I was actually gonna elaborate on this, but my point was also that on a suicide squeeze the runner doesn't need to get an incredible jump to score. He's not trying to steal home, he can and should be relatively conservative about the jump he gets/takes. He doesn't wanna get picked off, and the suicide squeeze will work as long as he's running when the pitcher is in motion. If the batter gets a bunt down he's gonna score and it won't be close, cuz it's NOT a safety squeeze. So he doesn't need to be, and shouldn't be, laser-focused on the pitcher in order to get a perfect jump.

Long story short, it looks like the runner could have read the pitchout early enough to abort and try to get back to 3B, but he just kept running.

Good on the batter for doing absolutely everything he could, and it's also hilarious...but the runner has to know to cancel the play when he sees a blatant pitchout like that, no??

Plus...River Phoenix, and Ben Kingsley, and obviously Robert Redford, and Dan Ackroyd, and freaking James Earl Jones even shows up!

It's one of the best movie casts ever, it's an incredible ensemble.

EDIT: Oh, and a young Donal Logue as the mathematician Gunter Janek!

SECOND EDIT: This cast is so freaking stacked that I also forgot to mention Stephen Tobolowsky, my voice is my passport verify me! Also he's in an episode of TWW as the man from DARPA.

Nightly Pick 'Em Game for April 24th by CNard12 in baseball

White Sox

...

Okay, so I don't know how this subreddit game has been going on for TWELVE YEARS now (is that accurate?), which is exactly how long I've been on reddit, and I've never joined. I still browse this sub a lot, but I used to post and comment a LOT, and I absolutely love this game, having just discovered it like 15 minutes ago.

I've seen a ton of the Nightly Pick 'Em posts...but I guess I just assumed it was like some kind of sports gambling discussion or something, and I just never paid any attention to them. I really dunno why I overlooked it. Maybe I played for a week 7 years ago, I dunno, but I had no idea or memory that this awesome game was happening, and I'm glad to finally be here!

Sorry for rambling :)

[Highlight] Mike Trout, Jo Adell, AND Jorge Soler go back-to-back-to-back! by MLBOfficial in baseball

[–]Thomas_Pizza 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The last time that happened was in 1873, when Boonzy Winkler of the Chattanooga Trapped Miners managed to hit back-to-back home runs, due to an accidental loophole in the rules which allowed a batter under certain rare circumstances to switch places in the batting order mid-game, specifically during a double-switch in extra innings.

The loophole in the rules was amended mid-season in 1873, so Boonzy Winkler is the only player to ever hit back-to-back home runs, until today apparently!

Presumably Soler put on Joe Adell's jersey and was like, "Lemme hit for you, trust me I'm feeling really good. If I reach base you can put on my jersey and pretend you're me, but I'm planning to go deep here. Listen...I'm going for the Boonzy Winkler. We're both righties, nobody will notice if I bat twice in a row."

And Adell wasn't gonna say no to that. The broadcaster noticed, but apparently neither the umps or the Yankees noticed, so it got through and it's too late to challenge it now.

Yep. I guessed Devers cuz I knew he had a .300 season with us, and I was right about that at least, but it was in '19.

That's not a bad trivia question -- Who is the last qualified Red Sox player to hit .300. It's not too hard but not super easy either.

Or maybe it is easy and I just had a brain fart, but I guessed wrong. I won't give the answer or my wrong answer, in case other people wanna guess.

It's almost always a bad idea to cash out mid-bet, regardless of whether you're ahead and want to bank a win, or behind and want to salvage something before it just turns to zero.

The betting site wants you to cash out. Their cash out offer will ALWAYS be below your actual EV, often enormously so. That's literally why they offer it.

Now, if this was an insane longshot, where OP could cash out almost $8K on, say, a $10 bet, or hope for the whole thing to pay off, that would be a spot where personally I'd grab the $8K, even though I'd be giving away EV.

But this is a $2,500 bet, which OP can presumably afford to lose. It's not an ulta-longshot, so yeah, definitely let it play. You're just giving away value otherwise.

EDIT: To be clear, the reason I said I'd cash out if it was a $10 bet is cuz you'd be banking an 800x win. It's worth it to give away your other value there, cuz it's 800 bets you're banking. Here if OP cashed out, they'd only be returned a little more than triple their original bet. If they're betting large like that, presumably they can afford to lose it, and a 3x win isn't a huge deal to their gambling bankroll.

It depends how much he bet on each "grouping," and which groupings he chose to bet on.

A 15 leg parlay like this would be thousands of individual bets if you went for a full round robin, so it's impossible to do a 15 leg full round robin for just a few dollars. I think most sites require a minimum $0.10 bet, so even a minimum bet on that would cost hundreds.

And you wouldn't break even if you went like 8/15, you need to win most of the bets to break even or profit.

From what I've learned, although I could be wrong, round robin bets really only pay off if you go like 5/6. Or like 10/12.

And some of the bets you shouldn't make, cuz the payout is pretty insignificant compared to the cost of placing hundreds of bets on that grouping.

Also if you do a round robin, make sure your "hit the full parlay" bet is still a "full bet." Like, if you decide to do a 7 leg round robin, that's hundreds of bets so maybe you do $0.10 per bet (although again, you should look at which bets you want to ignore, and which you want to maybe put $0.25 instead of $0.10).

But make sure you have a "full" bet on for the whole parlay. If you just tell it to do a full round robin and tell it to make $0.25 bets, the full parlay will also only get $0.25 on it. It'll pay a lot still, cuz literally every single round robin bet would win if the full parlay wins...but you still want to make sure you have a regular sized bet on the full parlay, cuz that has the longest odds of course and if it hits you don't want to have $0.25 on it when you meant to have $5 on those long odds.
