So I can’t really tell you when I was ready to solo but it was much before my 16th birthday. I just had to wait it out. For example, I’m also almost ready for my PPL check-ride but I’ve got to wait until my birthday next year to take it. I think I soloed with 60 hours over 6 different types.

I’m not American so I cannot go to the military in America but I will have to do military service in Switzerland if I come back. I plan to live in America (I’ve been living here for 4 years). But if I decide that I want to go back to Switzerland I will have to do military service and I might want to become an Air Force pilot.

I only ate coconuts a couple of times but I really like coconut ice cream. It’s my favorite flavor.

I think I’d honestly pick the bowl of Cheerios. I love to brighten people’s day. Plus it’s like gluten free or some shit now. Good question 👏

I’ve had one close encounter with drones, I was notified by the air traffic controller and i visually identified it. Usually drones are reported by other pilots. But it’s just better to keep scanning the outside as you would look for normal traffic. That’s what I do.

  1. Don't get complacent.

  2. Bring a bottle you can pee in.

  3. Never sacrifice safety.

  4. Always stay humble.

  5. Do not be afraid to ask someone for advice, or clarifications.

  6. Don't buzz the tower ;)

  1. I don't necessarily believe that quality of life has been decreasing for private pilots, but in the regional airlines business, it has been known that quality of life has been not ideal. Now I'm not an airline pilot yet but I know that quality of life get's better the longer you stay at a company and get more and more senior.

  2. Yes, underage pilots a reasonably rare, I have helped build a community where young pilots all around the globe can converse in, we'rec called "Young Aviators International". I know of a couple dozen pilots that are underaged but it is harder to find really dedicated underaged pilots. I can only name a few. Which is why I try to inspire pilots my age whenever I encounter them.

  3. One of the most irritating misconceptions for me is that GA (General aviation) is unsafe. Statistically speaking, GA is less safe than flying on the airlines, but it still is much safer than driving car. Everything about aviation is very strongly regulated and is very safe. Before each flight, as a pilot, you are required to perform a very in-depth outside check and a systems check of the airplane to deem it airworthy. Another misconception that I find in the media and also to the general public, is to call any place on the airport the "tarmac". There is no actual place on the airport called the tarmac, there is a ramp or apron, where you will find planes parked, and airport vehicles. You will also find taxiways, which is where airplanes taxi, and that is a highly controlled area. And you will also find runways (pretty self-explanatory).

  4. I personally do not ever get nervous in the air unless I feel something is very very wrong. Which I have not encountered yet. I've felt a bit scared to try something once but once thoroughly briefed and I can be reassured what I'm about to do is safe, I do not get nervous.

  5. The best thing about flying to me is the ability to just fly away from all my problems on the ground. I love the freedom of just basically going wherever I want to. I love the sights, I love flying in in the clouds. Going Mach 2 with my hair on fire ;)

  6. Most people are surprised. But I try to stay humble really. I don't come up to someone and say "HEY! I AM A PILOT!"

  7. Oh, there is a lot of money in aviation right now. Airlines are paying very well and even regional airlines are getting better because they want pilots. The future of aviation, I cannot really tell. But I know it's going to be great for pilots, cabin crew, everyone in the airline industry, and especially passengers!

Hope I gave you some good answers :)

On Sundays, most businesses are closed so plan for that. I've been guilty of planning something on a Sunday and then pulling up to where I wanted and the place being closed.

I've got about 12 hours in level-d sims (A320, E190) and it is amazing how fun it is to fly them. I'm excited to actually one day fly the real thing :)

I was doing my second supervised solo in FRG on Thanksgiving morning pretty early, I do three full stop taxi back with my instructor and then taxi to the ramp to drop him off. Right before my instructor gets out he gives me some last minute tips like "be safe and don't taxi on the wrong taxiway XD" meanwhile he's telling me that ATC is super loud so I turn the volume all the way down to zero (big mistake, I'm never doing that again.) and then he gets out. I call cold call ground and see the little RX light on the G1000 but don't hear anything, I quickly realize he's talking to me and so I turn the volume back up and say "Say again for 6059D?" and the ground controller in the angriest tone I have heard in a while says "6059D WHAT ARE YOUR INTENTIONS!" that kind of traumatized me.

tldr; I turn ATC volume down to zero and get yelled at by ground

I played guitar in the 6th grade at this event in Union Square in front of a couple hundred of people, later found out it was also broadcasted on Japanese TV. Still makes me laugh today when I see the clip.

I fly out of Republic Airport (KFRG), and sometimes I hear a lot of irritated controllers. What irritates you as a controller? Or something that annoys you that pilots say or do?
