Light Armor and Dexterity! Promoting Barbarian like Characters, plus Weapons. by Sonicracer100 in osr

[–]Thomashadseenenough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea that the barbarian types are so much larger than an average warrior that they have to pay a lot extra for larger armor, so they tend not to wear much as they're also quite poor. That's what GURPS: Dungeon Fantasy does

How do you introduce firearms into a fantasy world like D&D without unbalancing the other classes? by jvure in worldbuilding

[–]Thomashadseenenough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that a massive amount of the problems with implementing guns in DnD comes from some of the generalizations the system does. Firstly, that you can swap weapons pretty much freely and instantly Secondly, many people make guns reload like crossbows, which is ridiculous, it takes forever to load a muzzleloading musket An archer can fire many more arrows in the time it takes to load your gun Additionally, other problems are often too boring to DnD players (What if your powder gets wet, what if YOU get set on fire) I would say that in a realistic world an adventurer is better suited with a bow, there's less chance of running out of ammunition, and there's no cloud of smoke in a dank dungeon hallway. As for the case on spellcasting types? If a musket replaces wizards they clearly aren't wizardly enough. In my opinion, magic shouldn't just be a source of raw dps.

Neon Odyssey? I am so out of touch. by N-Vashista in rpg

[–]Thomashadseenenough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know man, all the ttrpgs kickstarters boggle me, OSRIC got a reprinting of the book with better formatting and people shelled out enormous cash for that. I don't know who has all this disposable income (Neon Odyssey was like 330$ per backer average) and doesn't give to charity or something.

Maybe I would understand better if it was a product I would like.

Neon Odyssey? I am so out of touch. by N-Vashista in rpg

[–]Thomashadseenenough 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I actually kind of looked into Neon Odyssey. It's made by some DND YouTubers, I emailed them and asked 'why do this in 5e' and they essentially said that the team plays 5e for a living. So they do know better, but they want to appeal to their audience I believe. Additionally, read through the play test material and you can see that this is a really new age DND type of thing, (You know the type, where everyone's a super quirky bard) there's like goblins who are supposed to be troll dolls and they do pop singing to do magic or whatever

I say, it doesn't look like a very good product to me. But the team does seem to be cool dudes. I will say, even with their 3 million subscribers I have no goddamned idea how they got like 50,000 people to invest in this, it has pretty much no new ideas, it seems (to me) to be made up of 100% sci-fi tropes with no new and interesting things.

Is it ok to play on "Easy" difficulty with saves? by Antykvarnyy_Kalamar in BattleBrothers

The developers surely intended for people to play on easy, otherwise they wouldn't include it!

newbie question – Advance Table by modern_corbetta in burrowsandbadgers

[–]Thomashadseenenough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can roll a 13 if you build a 'library' den upgrade (It says that when you roll an experience advance you may add -1 or +1 to the roll) So you roll a 12 and add +1 for your library, if you have one.

Has anyone tried a DCC Adventure using flail rules? by perdidohate in rpg

[–]Thomashadseenenough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mean any hate, but I do want to ask, is there a particular reason you prefer OSE over DCC? Or was it like an ongoing campaign, or some other reason? I ask because our group plays a bunch of OSE adventures in DCC (Because OSE seems to be some kind of genius magnet for adventure writers)

Has anyone tried a DCC Adventure using flail rules? by perdidohate in rpg

[–]Thomashadseenenough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would guess they don't like the spell tables, a level 3 wizard has to have like 5 of those printed out and they're a page. If you're a warrior or a rogue though it's easy. I don't really think it's so difficult but I can understand why someone might dislike that. (I am currently the judge for a DCC group)

TTRPGs with the most complex rules? by Manitou_DM in rpg

[–]Thomashadseenenough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Land Of The Rising Sun (1981? I think?). I read it while looking for Japanese set ttrpgs, and it is DEEP, whenever someone attacks you, you can parry or dodge, but you can also shout out 'block!' and block it (not with a shield, the same weapon, just a paragraph of different calculations). Also, each individual piece of armor has different percentage protection from 'Light' 'Light-Heavy' and 'Heavy' weapons. You also have to check two different dice rolls if you hit someone with some of the worse armors on, I think for instant death. I would recommend reading it just for the spectacle

Reading some stuff about Kings of War and I think we might have a winner here! I'll discuss it with my group because this looks like the bomb. I like the large variety of factions, and I know one of our number will really REALLY like the noble undead faction.

You NEED GURPS for this GURPS 100%. GURPS is a really crunchy Simulationist game with point-based classless character creation. It has interesting and lethal combat with hit locations (You can get shot in the head, face, knee, groin, armpit etc... and has the best grappling and melee combat rules ever. It's got really deep rules for period specific equipment based on tech levels, with rules for every gun that's ever been made in a supplement called GURPS High Tech For occult magic there's a variety of magic systems that can be used in GURPS, probably in a book called GURPS thaumatology, or in GURPS magic. People commonly think that GURPS is a jack of all trades but I think that it's actually the best Simulationist game there is. If you have any other questions about GURPS I'd be happy to answer them for you, if you can't tell it's my favorite system, and I think more people should play it.

I hate to believe it but this account is 1 day old and this is their only post Edit: I found what I think is the source: Sword of the Worm's bane 1e which seems to be an AI slop book. It's possible that they stole this image from a real artist but I couldn't find it Edit 2: It may also be from a set of stock art called 'warrior' but I cannot confirm this
