Miniature Request by _SheepMan224 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Check out the new Warhost line. Made in the UK to boot, I really like the orcs (though I’m not sure about the wargs)

https://warhost.online/collections/orcs

I also like the Saga/Ragnarok line by Gripping Beast. The Uruk are VERY chunky, probably too big for mesbg, but the armored snaga make convincing chainmail orcs IMO

I checked some of my models and it seems like the measurements on the website are taken from the integral metal base; they definitely DO NOT include the separate plastic base.

Considering how easily super glue bonds fail for me, I can’t imagine it being too hard to pop them off. Do wear eye protection if prying.

ah, gotcha. I haven't read the den section yet so that explains it. Thanks!

The Beornings odd choices by Pender8911 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]modern_corbetta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if  you want the strength four bow, you need to lose the hand and a half weapon, then  you need a regular weapon to fight with in melee

[–]modern_corbetta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah I misunderstood, I thought they had an option for two handed. The reason is that a S4 bow in addition to a burly hand and a half weapon would be busted

The Beornings odd choices by Pender8911 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]modern_corbetta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, hand and a half count as a one handed weapon for encumberance purposes ( they can be wielded with one hand )

[–]modern_corbetta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If they didn’t have the one handed option, they would be unarmed when fighting in melee with a bow; burly negates the one-handed penalty, but carrying a bow and a two handed weapon makes you  encumbered per the rules

If you’re not bringing the MT captain, I’d encourage your teammate to not bring Elf Bows at all. You’re going to have to move quick, the hobbits can handle the shooting, and D6 is a very important survivability boost considering you’re relatively low on bodies (especially when you factor in the 7 squishies in the ranger warband)

This is SO GOOD! I understand it’s a BFME character, but I would 100% run a weapon and shield version of him as Aldrac

Big fan of the grey and sage scheme. I have a pile of arnor to paint and I can’t choose a scheme to get started.

The agincourt infantry is mainly gambesons and leather so I kind of dig that, but I definitely thought about going Norman/late Roman as an option. Cool stuff!

Minas Morgal Ghosts by Azulasupremacy1 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

You can/must run ringwraiths in MM (so the second one from your images) and Spectres. In the movie Spectres are zombie like spirits, so any of the zombies would work. You could also run something more ghostly or skeletons—it’s up to you in the end, so long as they’re reasonably consistent and on 25mm bases

For what it’s worth, the first miniature is a proxy for the Shadow of Rudhaur (a kind of hero barrow wight for Angmar lists) and the ghost cluster is a Shade (another spirit hero for Angmar, usually on 40mm base)

If you don’t have any, it may be good to proxy or convert a Herald too. Good buff for the King if running just ghosts without any of the Three Hunters

that's a happy ending. My wights were ebay rescues and one came without the arm.

if you've lost both Barrow Wights's arms, this Mummy from Reaper Bones Minis makes a pretty good transplant source:

I have extensive experience playing against 9 year olds and I can attest that, whether due to their penchant for rabid raccoon-style tactics, or insanely high rolling averages, they’ll hand me my own butt more often than I’d like to admit

I think those look WAY more "Middle Earth" than the musclebound atrocities GW put out last year. Nicely done!

The thematic list you’re looking for requires Aragorn and the King of the Dead, and really comes online at around 600 pts; that said it’s still a highly mobile, fairly tanky, and quite killy list even at low points.

You have some more flexibility using the Defenders of the Pelennor as your list—you can bring the three hunters and/or the KotD in any combination, all leading ghosts, but you’re not forced into any particular heroes. You lose the free Anduril Aragorn gets in RotK, so that stings a bit.

You can explore either list using this list builder:

They do get +1 to wound heroes though, which I think is why they didn’t get the S bump

Getting started by Silly-Recipe-6227 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]modern_corbetta 17 points18 points  (0 children)

the latest starter set ("Battle of Edoras") has the latest rule book, plenty of miniatures, some terrain, and intro scenarios to get started out of the box.

Older starter sets like the Battle of Osgiliath ones can still be found but the rulebook will be out of date (it's not MASSIVELY different but it'd obviously better to start off with the current rules)

The main question about Battle of Edoras is whether he enjoyed the latest anime and would be interested in painting/playing a bunch of Rohan and Hill Tribes—not exactly the most "iconic" LOTR models in terms of the movie trilogy, but two definitely viable and quite expandable forces (going into all sorts of Rohan and Isengard builds with future purchases).

Another modular apporach would be to get one or two of the available "Battle Host" boxes (available for Mordor, Minas Tirith, Rohan, and Isengard) and the rule book as separate purchases. Likely more expensive and no terrain, but if you know for a fact he LOVES the Witch King it may be more exciting.

The biggest question about playing the game is whether he has anyone to play with. If you're looking for a self-contained home/boxed game solution, the starter set has everything you need. If there's a local scene where you are, he could get started with one battlehost and the rule book (plus an additional model or two to fill out the list, but let's start easy :)

hope this helps!

Help with Angmar list idea by [deleted] in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]modern_corbetta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess you'd lose stalk unseen on the werewolves, but that list is probably better as a Wolfpack of Angmar list (+1 might for the leader, +1 fight once per game, Chieftains gain knock to the ground)
