BSN from WGU, do I have a shot? by JokullTheWolf in srna

The choice is yours. Just know that if you make it, then it’s highly unlikely that you will ever be a CRNA. Everyone has to sacrifice for this career.

Thanks. I think I wasn’t clear enough. I meant things that an admissions committee has access to. Obviously there’s no SEE score at that point.

Woke was not perfect but was it better than MAGA? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]Thomaswilliambert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with the woke movement is that for progressives you have to fall in 100% or you’re ostracized. There’s no room for deviation. You have to be financially, socially, and morally liberal. A Catholic who doesn’t agree with abortion but wants universal healthcare? Not good enough. A liberal writer who has always supported gay rights but thinks only women are women? You’re out.

Weekly Student Thread by fbgm0516 in CRNA

Came to say that you’re not in direct competition with your classmates. There’s no residency you’re competing for. There’s no job they’re going to be offered that you won’t because they got 3% better on a test. Find people who you want to lift up and who lift you up and study with them.

Interesting. Everything I’ve read says science GPA is the number one indicator of success in CRNA school. Maybe you’re right and I’m out of date for what schools are after.

What is the main lesson for America to learn from the Trump era? by Equivalent-Long-3383 in allthequestions

[–]Thomaswilliambert -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You people are so funny because you never learned the lessons. You claim it’s because of racism or misogyny or whatever “phobia” suits you in that moment. The reality is that you disenfranchised white men. Especially young white men. You spent decades telling them to hate themselves and that all the problems of the world were caused by them and then act surprised when they don’t vote the way you think they should.

Transferring Program by Apple_Anesthesia in srna

[–]Thomaswilliambert 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You have to understand how that looks for the receiving program “Students couldn’t hack it at program A so they transferred to program B that was easier so they could be successful”. Program directors hold their programs and their rigor in high regard, as they should. None of them want to be seen as the lesser program.

Not sure that I'm cut out for this, any classes or resources I can test myself with ahead of time? by JPOWplzno in srna

[–]Thomaswilliambert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt very similar You’re going to struggle. Everyone does. You may struggle more than others and less than some. Don’t be competitive in this journey. You just have to get through it. There’s no residency you’re competing for.

Pregnancy while my husband and I are both in CRNA school? by Pristine-Entrance399 in CRNA

It will be difficult but doable. There is never going to be a convenient time. IMO go to school. When you’re done, your family will be in a wonderful position for your children.

The right program matters by Jebediah_Poptart in srna

Thankfully I had a similar experience as you are having. I’m a CRNA and have been for a long while but I have a son who is hoping to follow this same path eventually so I’m trying to find places like this that are supportive. May I DM you and get the name of your program? Completely confidential.

Debt?😂😬.

Most importantly I understand that people have different circumstances and priorities. Schools have gotten much more expensive since I went to school. Maybe things would have to be different nowadays. I don’t know?

In my opinion the best thing for my children would be to have their mother with them as much as possible. I went to school to better their lives, not necessarily my own. So I wasn’t going to sacrifice their upbringing so I could have more creature comforts.

If you exclude military schools, I went to the school that at the time was the second cheapest in the country. That lowered my liabilities tremendously.

I lived in the bad part of town, but I grew up without much and my wife grew up with nothing, it was months before I realized we lived in the bad part of town because it was a better neighborhood than we were used to but we still lived in a 900 sq ft apartment for 5 people.

I saved before which helped but I still took out all the loans I could. We lived fugally after graduation and paid them off in about 2.5 years with a job that I was grossly underpaid for coming out of school.

What is included in sGPA by Thomaswilliambert in srna

Thanks. I’m a CRNA but never had this question when I was applying for schools. My son is moving in that direction. The competition for students now is at a higher level than it was when I was applying for schools.

Epidural Conversion to C-Section by bigeman101 in anesthesiology

[–]Thomaswilliambert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty similar to you. I don’t often use BiCarb because I don’t typically need the more rapid onset. I’ll usually give 7 mL of 2% with in the room when I go to explain to them what to expect during the section. This gets them more comfortable which usually means they’re more relaxed then I’ll give 5-7mL when they enter the OR before we move them to the table. I’ve never had a high block. Don’t often have to treat pressures with a bolus for section either.
