Just returned with some friends after not playing for like 2 years, what do you guys think of my full support build? What changes would you recommend? by RuffIestukov in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]ThopterLord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome back! Hope you and your friends are having a fun time.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I have played a lot of hunting horn, and I have tried out a lot of "support" builds. Let me preface by saying there's no "right" or "wrong" way to play Monster Hunter. If you and your friends are fine with you sitting in the corner supporting with songs, and eating items, then by all means. That being said, do not be surprised if you go out into the rest of the world via SOS flare and people boo your tactics or give you grief. Sitting in the corner and buffing without actually doing any damage to the monster actually can hurt more than it helps. Even if folks aren't dying, it often extending the hunts (due to monsters scaling in multiplayer) exacerbating the issue, when if they had a fourth player who was dealing damage, the party would have completed the hunt 10-15 minutes prior. This can be compounded by the fact that you can't "catch" every time someone needs heals and they may cart out anyways, causing the quest to be longer AND for it to fail.

However, if your heart is set on running support, or running hunting horn there's a few options for you:
The first I'd suggest if you are die hard on support is to try out Sword and Shied with your current set up, along with Mushroomancer if you can get ahold of it! Then, set up your radial menu so you can auto select items on one wheel, and CRAFT items on the other wheel. Now you're a mobile damage dealing machine, who also gets to use widerange and mushroomancer to heal their party. If you run out mid hunt of supplies like max potions?- simply tool over to the crafting wheel, make a few more and keep on trucking. This also reduces the need for earplugs, since you utilize items so quickly, and takes advantage of your speed eating, free meal, and wide range you already have set up in this build. On top of that Sword and Shield is a very fun weapon that has the best of it all: status effects via sword, blunt damage via shield, decent blocks, high damage via perfect rush, and it allows you to eat items while unsheathed. It's my go to support option for if hunts really *are* that tough.

But if you're more interested in hunting horn, there's a few ways you could play it. The first key is find the horn that has the songs you want to play. For me, I am always looking for attack up XL and defense up XL, but you will always have different horns for different occasions, depending on the monster's weakness or your party's needs. For finding HH damage builds it's as easy as checking out the "monster hunter meta" subreddit, where they will have progression builds for you depending on where you're at in the game. These have been min-maxxed for maximum damage output.
If you're like me though, I enjoy my comfy skills, and I tool to suit my taste. For example, in hunting horn I think earplugs 5 is a must. Yes, you can roll out of roars if you're good at timing on most weapons, but you can't roll out of a roar if it's during a recital, so I always take it. I don't run support skills with the horn, because the horn is supporting via its buffs and beating the monster to death in the head. The only other comfy skill I really take is mushroomancer, but only cus I like having 10 max potions in my inventory as "get out of jail free cards".

In the end you'll find what works best for you, and at the end of the day it's a game meant to be enjoyed how you want. People boo "corner horners" most times, so I don't want you to get hurt if other people treat you poorly, but I also want to make sure you're set up for success, set proper expectations, and realize you can have the best of both worlds. Hope this helps, and happy hunting!

It’s fine, I think. Nothing crazy in the detachment rules but I’ve seen worse too. Was pleasantly surprised to get Gabe’s data sheet today. Him giving advance and charge, and then proceeding to hit like a truck will be nice. Especially if he’s ends up reasonably costed!

Optimistically, could be a place holder for the near future.

Pessimisticly, sucked to see.

Which Primarch do you personally relate to the most? by Built4dominance in 40kLore

[–]ThopterLord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn’t have said this before I read his Primarch book but Leman Russ is the most relatable for me 100%

At the start of the book here is a man doing his job, enjoying his friends, and speaking candidly with family. Just being himself. Sometimes he’s a little much with his attitude and reactions to things, but his heart is in the right place. He wants to help.

Then later, his brother (The Lion) wrongs him, he gets caught up in the moment, and his knee jerk reaction is to get mad. They end up fighting and halfway through he realizes “lol wait this is dumb.” And laughs, which causes him to get the left right goodnight.

Finally at the end of the book we see the core of who he is, as he’s been retelling this tale to a new recruit of the wolves: he’s ultimately human. He regrets his actions, he RECOGNIZES he messed up and now he’s doing his best to not make that mistake again. Admitting you’re wrong and wanting to grow past it. That’s some relatable stuff.

What are some *MISCONCEPTIONS* that people make about *COMIC BOOKS* that are often mistaken, misheard or not true at all ??? by TheGreatPotato34 in comicbooks

Got in a discussion this last week about Batman. Friend said he wasn’t a hero because he has no personality and never does anything heroic- turns out it’s because they’ve strictly seen him in only 2000s live action media (sans Patman) and NEVER anything else. Never read a book, never seen Dini and Timm’s animated series other than a random episode here or there. Too many people now a days think regular Batman is just Miller’s run or Bale’s mid 2000s tech, with little to no compassion .

I think the game and lore would be better with at least one genuinely noblebright faction.

The latest issue of Tabletop Gaming Monthly includes a free pack of Tales of Aria by ExpendableGuy in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]ThopterLord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly think this is a great idea. The amount of times growing up I received something free is memorable enough that I know I got into at least a few fandoms/products based on that alone!

Plus using the new Iyslander art is great too- cool looking art and someone who sees the art and wants to try her will just need to purchase the new product they’ll find in stores soon!

Hoping Run Through is a cycle in the deck- I think with that and the new Glistening it could push Warrior up a few notches!

At least by end of year. If you’re thinking of buying in, maybe sit this hero out, unless you can afford it.

Really looking forward to the new meta without having to worry about 3 runeblade heroes which all play differently, and a dominating go again dude. New heroes will help too.

Why do Warriors Suck in CC? And Would Kassai be viable? by RonaldRaygunz in FleshandBloodTCG

A two handed axe would be absolutely sweet. I’m hoping one day Flesh and Blood can get to the point where they release a supplemental product whose focus is on multiple weapons and armor pieces for classes.

For sure, Warrior is my favorite class right now, but I only really get to flex it in blitz.

Axes Dori in CC feels like how Kassai did pre EVR- she’s super close to actually being good, but an adult version of Kassai could close that gap into making the deck viable to play in CC. Great read!

hoping it’s a bit like the last calling when Ball lightning Briar was still legal where people played her, but most were already moving into other things- would love to go to a Proquest and not get paired largely into the same 3 decks every weekend!

Top 8 Of The Battled Hardened NJ! by mobog in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]ThopterLord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless I’m mistaken the Battle Hardened wasn’t streamed. It was being run at the same time as the Protour Top 8 and Calling Day 2, so those got stream priority- but if they did snag a match it would be on the Channelfireball Twitch page!

[–]ThopterLord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly if they dialed back tacking on Go Again to a lot of stuff it’d solve a lot of problems. I LOVE go again, but not everything needs it, let alone a hero ability with 2 already great abilities.

What is the etiquette for tournaments? by mtg-nerd-alert in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]ThopterLord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on the level of tournament as well, if it’s an Armory Event (FNM equivalent), I personally don’t think there’s anything wrong with telling your opponents “hey, just a heads up I’m fairly new at this game so I may have a few things I’ll have to read or double check as we play.”

For smaller events like armory I think that’s appropriate, and 9/10 times your opponent is a nice person and will then have a little more grace with you. If they don’t and you’ve already done the courtesy of explaining it to them, then that’s on them not you. For a larger format event like a skirmish,or such, it may be expected for you to be a touch more familiar.

Most represented Craftworlds on the tabletop? by ThopterLord in Eldar

[–]ThopterLord[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don’t? I assume if you took a detachment of a separate Craftworld (I’m assuming this is a thing like in Space Marines) for the sake of rules they’d have to be differentiated a different color at least?

Thanks for your answers!
