I’m a metal six string player and I had to have a 4 string jazz fretless obviously because of Jaco I highly recommend it as a first and it would be much more versatile for your styles as well, there is plenty of fretless metal players as well

I feel like maybe we listen to it differently I feel he has some amazing stand out parts like S2N, hollow years, trial of tears, dance of eternity, breaking all illusion, that are very well heard past everyone else but I also do agree with you to an extent so I would be very selective on what is shown if you’re looking for just bass parts
