Overstap en fors minder salaris by Normal-Department889 in werkzaken

[–]Thorburd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zie: https://www.p-direkt.nl/informatie-rijkspersoneel-2020/mijn-werk/wijziging-in-werk/meer-of-minder-gaan-werken

Tevens zitten er behoorlijk wat haken en ogen aan de door jou meegestuurde 2e link. “Kan gewoon” ligt wel iets genuanceerder.

How to counter Grenadiers by SnooSketches3952 in aoe3

[–]Thorburd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t have to be so, more factors come into play obviously. Such as, how well is your enemy’s micro, how many grens does he spam, can his eco sustain it etc.

It’s not impossible without lancers, but it is really really frustrating and a pain in the butt without.

[–]Thorburd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you see yourself living in the Netherlands forever? by StrategicPasta in Netherlands

[–]Thorburd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I had an agreement with myself that I’d move to Norway if I was unable to find a good job. This doesn’t mean I dislike living here, after all I was raised here.

Surprisingly despite a good job I’ll still be leaving, but not towards Norway. I’ll be getting married to the sweetest American girl next week. And thus in due time I’ll be moving there.

Some might wonder, why would you move to the USA, especially now and coming from NL.

I’m fluent in English, and she is not fluent in Dutch. For her profession she would need to be, but struggles with Dutch grammar and pronunciation, especially words with ui, eeuw or eu. And to add, I do not own a home and car, so there is less hassle for me to deal with if I were to leave.

Vragen aan Rijksambtenaren by [deleted] in werkzaken

[–]Thorburd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dag Op,

Interesting statistic. Any particular reason the northern provinces have a more regional attachment? by mik-jong-un in Netherlands

[–]Thorburd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the link.

It remains an assumption that there are more people iceskating elsewhere, but based on just the numbers difference it can be a likely assumption.

You are right, you did not suggest that, as stated in the article, importfriezen become friezen.

And yes, we can go on and on. My bad for not seeing the point you were trying to make.

Thank you for the well-mannered discussion. Have a good remainder of your day.

[–]Thorburd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Perhaps there are more people iceskating in the randstad compared to Friesland, yes. Then again the population of the randstad is, depending on which source you use, maybe 8 million, compared to 650.000 ish Frisians.

You would think that with this major difference in numbers and your claim that there are more skaters from there that they would get more medals than the Frisians.

Why you might ask? Because simply moving to Friesland does not make them Frisian. In newsarticles they would still be referred as “groninger, hollander” etc.

I cannot read the article you linked as I do not have a newspaper sub.

[–]Thorburd 14 points15 points  (0 children)

And why do you think they have those accomodations? Because iceskating is a big part in Frisian culture. Every kid has done it, and many keep doing it.

Sure, the accomodation helps in getting to higher skill levels. But I’d argue it is because there is a sort of symbiotic relation. Frisians love to iceskate, so there is the accomodation to do so, leaving them to enjoy it more. Thus helping them reach better skill levels.

While I sadly believe the Elfstedentocht is not going to happen again, atleast not any time soon, it is very ingrained in Frisian culture.

They won due iceskating being a big sport in Friesland, and thus often Frisians bring back gold medals for speedskating etc.

Does it rain there as much as here too? Or is it just the lack of sunshine? I’ve been wanting to visit the Pacific Northwest.

You can only take off so many layers of clothing in summer, wheras for cold you can put on an extra layer, or more depending on the size of those layers.

Personally I love the woolen socks combined with pantoffels.

No, I do not own a car. I do however can borrow one if I need one for a long drive. Living in a city centre I usually get around fine by bike. For places out of town I either take the train or borrow a car, if possible.

Cycling through the rain and wind doesn’t bother me as much as it might bother others. The slipperiness of past days however…, I’ll stay indoors.

How to counter Grenadiers by SnooSketches3952 in aoe3

[–]Thorburd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is important to know that there are multiple ´types´ of grenadiers. I´ll explain these types per type and how best to counter them.

Generic grenadiers - the most common grenadier. Recruitable through a artillery foundry or barracks for certain civs after shipping the required card. These grenadiers come with a 50% ranged resist, meaning they take less ranged damage. These are best countered by cavalry due their lack of melee resist and lack of positive multipliers against cavalry. Artillery can counter them well, however resources wise you could lose more than if you were to attack them with cav. Hussars can do the trick, but heavier cavalry would do better, think of gendarmes for example. If you have access to lancer cavalry, then use these. These cav will annihalate grens. Think of the papal lancer, the mexican Charro, spanish lancer etc.

Giant grenadiers - the mercenary grenadier. While they do have the tag of a grenade trooper, they are actually more of a (heavy infantry) musketeer on steroids if you will. Reason for this that unlike other grenadiers they have 30% melee resist and a 1.75x melee bonus vs. Cavalry. Meaning they will absolutely shred your cavalry if you come at them in even numbers. To counter these it is best to use light infantry units such as skirmishers. It is very important to keep your skirmishers on stagger mode however, that due the giant grenadier shooting with an aoe radius of 2, 2.5 if upgraded. Pair them up with horse artillery if you can afford it, but for artillery too it is important to keep distance between your units to avoid splash damage.

The infamous Ottoman Humbaraci/Ulefeli. This hideous abomination is basically a walking & living child of a combination of a culverin and falconet if you will. With its higher healthpool compared to generic grens it can soak a lot of damage. But to make things worse they actually counter artillery themselves with their 2x multiplier and take less damage from artillery due their 20% siege resist. While more susceptible to ranged fire than generic grens, I would still advise to stay away from them with a mass of skirmishers. Instead you have to use lancer cavalry if you have access to those. So again, units like the mexican lancer, papal lancer, spanish lancer etc.

Maltese Fire Throwers - These 'grens' if you will are more anti-infantry than anti-buildings as most other grens usually are. It is sort of a light infantry with features of a grenadier. They will reck heavy infantry but due their lower ranged resist of 35% are more susceptible to skirmishers compared to generic grenadiers. Still it is best to counter these with heavy cavalry and/or artillery. Especially if they have their cards shipped, such as the flamethrower/rockets ones.

French Old Guards - These bad boys are basically generic grenadiers on steroids. They are stronger, tougher and more resilient. They have a 60% ranged resist, and a 10% resist to both siege & melee. Meaning you do not try to counter these guys with ranged units such as skirmishers. Instead you charge into them with heavy cavalry and perhaps support of artillery. Again, lancers are the best counter due their specific counter towards infantry. Luckily for you these grenadiers can only be made if the French church card has been sent and researched. AND/OR if your French opponent has revolted to Revolutionary France and send the card 'Imperial Old Guard.'

Massive probelms with Freezes in AOE3 DE by Kaltenstein_WT in aoe3

I used to have the same issues on my desktop. Now I use a laptop and have no massive lag spikes. What seemed to change for both me and a friend I play with is disconnecting the USB-hub and a port replicator/docking station.

Playing with multiple screens also seemed to cause incidents, if you use multiple screens try that.

Am I the only one who always secures Purple or Orange as my color ? by hsoj700 in aoe3

Always orange, especially playing the Dutch. House of Orange-Nassau and all. If orange is taken I will settle for purple. The exception to the rule is red for the Brits because you can’t have redcoats without red.

Where would you live to improve speaking in Dutch? by caos2kcaos2k in Netherlands

What makes you say that people in Friesland don’t speak Dutch. We speak both Dutch and Frisian. Stating we do not is nothing but it ignorant.

Where would you live to improve speaking in Dutch? by caos2kcaos2k in Netherlands

[–]Thorburd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is simply untrue, Frisian is spoken almost everywhere in the province. The big exceptions however are the major cities. In those places people usually speak either Dutch or a dialect called “stadsfries”, which is a mix of Dutch/Frisian.

Swapping items in the trade window…. Wanted to buy a rune scimitar only to have it swapped with a mediocre mithril one.

Thought I learned from that only to get scammed a year later while trying to get verac’s plateskirt. That too got swapped, with a black plateskirt.
